Customer Reviews

This place has a lot going for it. They have seating outside on a deck and more outback in a patio area with picnic tables. The food is good, and I recommend the hamburger. I do wish they had regular fries in addition to tater tots. One of the most unique aspects is their level of pet friendliness. The waitress brought us out a bowl of water, and they even have a menu just for pets. Kaia Blue recommends the grilled chicken. The game room was a nice touch with a mix of a few retro games and a decent s

The arcade set-up and bingo night are great editions to the overall atmosphere. However, the service was simply okay, employees did not seem particularly enthusiastic about being present, and the waitress wasn't particularly attentive to our party. Food was okay; lots of potential for the location, but not somewhere I would come back and spend money at currently.

Cool little retro arcade with great food. I had the white bean and potato soup which was fantastic. Played some donkey kong and galaga. Nice place to chill and enjoy some old school games and pinball

I had the steak sandwich. It was good, better than average. My wife had the pulled chicken sandwich that was amazing good! I can confirm as I had a generous bite. I was able to play the Rush pinball machine and play Galaga with my son. I was disappointed by the Chocolate Mousse cake, which has a very weak chocolate flavor and a strong cinnamon flavor. Wouldn't order again.

My husband and I stopped through on our way out of town after visiting Monticello and we are so glad we did! Service was great, everyone is super nice! Our food was awesome, we really enjoyed the smoked chicken sandwich, the chicken Philly, and definitely the mac and cheese! The drinks were great as well and we really appreciated the patio for our pups.

Stopped by just for waters after a walk along the Rivanna River nearby on a really hot day and just wanted to say that the staff was unbelievably friendly and welcoming even though we just needed basic hydration. We took a look around the place and it has a small but great set of pinball games and retro arcade machines, plus a decent library of board games. If I lived locally I would definitely hang out here all the time!

Very friendly staff. Neat atmosphere and delicious food! They had a huge vegan menu and could make most things gluten free too. There was a long non-alcoholic menu too, which is a plus for someone who doesn't drink alcohol but wants something fun to drink. We will definitely be back next time we are in town.

It was very well organized and I did not have to wait long for my food come at all staff was great service with a smile my fave

Here's my local guide honest review. Firefly is hands down one of my favorite restaurants. I love that they are green restaurant certified. I heard one time that even the food scraps go to feed pigs on a farm. Besides that the food is amazing and they have an extensive vegan menu. Brunch is also a favorite of mine. And you have to try the tachos at least once in your life! Here are a few pics from our gals lunch. Two are fully vegan entrees. The outdoor seating is great.

Awesome local find for gluten free, vegetarian, vegan and local food. The service was fantastic! They had a big patio, mostly covered, that is pet friendly. And even brought our dog water with ice in it. Almost everything on their menu can be made gluten free. Wish we would've found this place sooner. We will definitely be back whenever we make it back to Charlottesville.

We loved our visit to Firefly! Michelle was an amazing server who was attentive to our diverse group and their dietary needs. The restaurant's overall vibe and music were perfect, and the food was top-notch! I heard this was the best (insert food name here) I've ever had from several members of our party. From the jackfruit nachos to the vegan crab cake sandwich to the wings to the cheesesteaks... all of it delicious! 5 stars and then some!

Cool spot for a drink or bite to eat with outdoor seating and a small arcade area for a different vibe. A little small with less than enough parking on busy nights. Would like to see more draft beer options but the food was good. Tons of vegan options if that's your thing. Pet friendly as well.

FIREFLY Restaurant & Game Room was a great place to stop and have a few drinks while I was in Charlottesville. The bartenders and kitchen staff were all super nice. The bathroom had a great mirror to snap a quick selfie for the ?gram. If you stop by here, get tater tots, they're cooked PERFECTLY

Stopped in for lunch and was really impressed with the vegan and vegetarian options. Service was kind and it's great to see an establishment choosing love and openly supporting the LGBTQ+ community. Definitely family friendly and lots of fun game machines and events planned!

Man this was a place I wanted to like, first of all most games are a dollar a play but that's not a deal breaker nowadays and they have some board games for free. But first of all my tator tots came out cold and then my daughter?s burger was medium at best. For one the customer should be asked how they want their burger which my daughter most certainly did not want medium, and this is not a big patty by any means so they just were in a rush to under cook. As it was early and not busy I would hate to see

Super cool place! The atmosphere was a lot more chill than I anticipated and I really liked that. Service was good, food was quite good, and the arcade games/pinball machines were awesome. We also had the Mixed Berry dessert and it was delicious.

We really enjoyed this place. Inside has an industrial feel, open concept. We were seated immediately. About a 15 minute walk from transit station. We ordered the chips and salsa as an appetizer. They were delicious but the plate was too small. Chips kept falling onto the table. (Forgot to take a picture). Cobb salad was amazing! I had it without the blue cheese and with ranch dressing. Ranch is a house herbed ranch. My mother loved the pretzel like brioche bun with her hamburger. Unfortunately, my son spil

We came for the bingo on bingo night. It was fun, and there were obvious regulars that were playing to win. Several of the menu items were unavailable and what we did get was not as fresh as I 2would have liked. Great arcade selection and welcoming atmosphere!

Today was our first time here, and we thoroughly enjoyed our vegan meal. Their ?No Bull? burger with sweet potato fries was delicious! We definitely are coming back here on our next day trip to Charlottesville and will try one of their vegan deserts next time.

If I could give 0 stars I would. The restaurant doesn't seem anything like it does in pictures, and parking was hard to find. The atmosphere was okay, and the food was okay, it was bland in my opinion and small portions for the prices; it was long wait and the food wasn't hot, it was whether cold or warm; presentation needed work. The kids meals is supposed to be the first to be served and it was the last to arrive. The waiter also had a hard time understanding anything we were saying even tho we spoke clea

Had a casual dinner on their outdoor patio and really enjoyed their vegan options. Really loved how they pay their employees a fair wage and health insurance, other restaurants could really learn a thing or two from FIREFLY. The drinks were strong, the food was delicious, if we're ever in the area again we'd definitely return.

Great food and fun atmosphere. We enjoyed the pinball and were appreciative of the gluten free offerings and knowledge. Loved the gluten free sweet potato fries! The wait staff left a lot to be desired. Left water on the table for us and never came back over to take our order, take our plates, etc. so we went up to order from the bar and brought our plates back up to the bar. We ended up being there on bingo night which was very exciting for our kids. I think if the announcer for bingo kicked up the

What a great spot. The cheese burger ($16) was excellent. I ordered it with an egg on top (trust me) and it had a great backyard grille taste. The vinegar slaw was also very good. I will be back. P.S. plenty of parking out back!

Can't go wrong with the Tater Tots! Absolutely delicious. Wish I lived closer, but always a stop on the itinerary when in town.

Cool place and really nice bar/wait staff, the chicken steak was good but they were out of sub rolls and the jackfruit bbq was not so hot, I've heard great things and still think I might try again. Really open seating, nice sports bar-type area and has some pinball which is sweet, also the mojito was very very good and strong, so props to bar. They also have trivia nights that seem intense but fun. Interesting place with 2 single locking bathrooms, the best kind of bathroom around!!

Came here on a lark while visiting. I was extremely happy with the service even though they were completely booked for the Trivia Event. All the staff were kind and appreciative and I felt very at home there. ??????

We were driving through and needed a good place that had vegan vegetarian options and found this little gem. It's not far off the highway and the staff was kind and friendly. Yes it was very tasty and full of flavor.

Firefly is awesome. Great vegan options, fun atmosphere, and friendly staff. The arcade games are pretty cheap, and board games are free.

Awesome eating experience! Friendly staff and efficient service. Full vegan menu options- the tater totchos were so good we forgot to take a photo! Pesto pasta and beyond sausage hoagie were great too. Really well priced for vegan food, I think my soup bowl was maybe $5? Great spot

A Nice cool chill place to grab something to eat, where your tastebuds will not be offended by any of the choices you make on the menu. There are plenty of choices to accompany your food with drafts, ciders, mixed drinks. Make room for dessert, you deserve to treat yourself. If solo, no worries. Sit at the bar where the bartender(s) are friendly but not overwhelming If being in your own thoughts is the mood you're in. Or get together with friends and grab a table & a cue stick to play billiards. In the end, y

We arrived at 1:15 PM to a half full restaurant. The noise level was high from the live band, making it hard to enjoy a conversation. The acoustics are something to keep in mind if you're looking for a quieter spot. Service was friendly, but we had to go find our server three times for updates on our food. Ten minutes before their 3 PM closing time, our order still hadn't arrived after ordering 90 minutes prior and we eventually decided to leave. For those on a schedule or looking for something kid-friendl

Sheer perfection. Loved their vegan menu. My bestie got the vegan crab cake and the vegan burger.. Did not disappoint. However the real surprise is their side salad and house dressing. What a delight to the taste buds.

Very good selection of beer. Nice variety of food, not just your basic burger and fries place. Healthy options and vegan selections are ample. Great atmosphere with a lot of retro arcade games.

I have Alpha Gal Syndrome. This wonderful staff and owner made me feel safe and accepted when I told them about my allergy to anything from a mammal. Without batting an eye, easily answered questions and accommodated safety needs so I could order food without fear. If you need allergy friendly baking.. I saw the most gorgeous Vegan GF Strawberry Cheesecake ever!!! emerge there.

A whole page of vegan and vegetarian options are available. Crab cake sandwich was definitely something different and tasty but the servings were small especially for the side. Main entree serving size was allso insufficient for lunch.

The best thing for be was the fireplace. It was a cold December night and it was so cozy. They also have a happy hour and games like pool, ski-do and pinball. The draft list is really good and the food is too! I especially liked the quinoa bowl and Korean wings.

As always the food was really good! The cider on draft never disappoints, and this coffee one was REALLY good, very unexpected! My daughter loves coming with us because she likes the games, and there's something on the menu for all of us.

Firefly is a green-certified restaurant in Charlottesville that doubles as a game room. They have pinball machines, arcade games, skeeball, and a selection of board games. Their food is good, big sandwiches with a choice of a side (sweet potato fries, tater tots, Mac and cheese, etc.). Their draft beer list changes frequently and they have trivia on Tuesday nights. Firefly has a good outdoor dining area as well. Parking might seem limited, but it is plentiful if you park across the street at the memoria

Cute place with some older arcade games and lots if board games for families. They have a decent beer menu and food menu. I ordered the shrimp tacos that were too salty but otherwise ok, and everyone else in my group enjoyed their meal.

The brunch was really good today and my 2 nerdy teens loved the retro vibe of the place. They enjoyed the pinball machines and video games and we played a game of Uno. It was a good time, laid back fun. We'll be back again!

We like FireFly for its extensive and creative vegetarian options and atmosphere. It is laid back and friendly and a great place for breakfast or a casual bite later in the day too. They have a lot of options and good drinks. I especially like their outdoor seating options. The atmosphere inside and outside is great.

Went in for lunch, after years of driving in front. Very friendly staff and cool atmosphere. Also the food/drinks was pretty good ???? I'll have to come back one day with some friends

Food was pretty good, loved the atmosphere, but the service was not the best. Was here with my family and did not get my food until my family was finished and was given my food in a to go box (not even in a plate) after almost an hour. I really liked the atmosphere, but I didn't get my food until way later and my entire family had been served and had already eaten at that point. Please make your service more efficient. Other than that, great atmosphere and some good food.

I love the place and the staff is super nice. But we waited forever for our food and my fish was burned. Maybe it was a bad night. Still I think it's a great place. It was bingo night. Real fun!

Fun hangout/bar with classic arcade games, fuseball, pool, sceeball, and a nice collection of pinball games (the Simpsons included.). Beer menu was great, nitro coffe stout, good IPA, sours, and ales, some local from Charlottesville. Food is really good, gourmet comfort food. Had a lot of fun with my family.

Fun local dive. Good food, nice drink menu. Fun arcade with vintage games and pinball. We took our littles and they really enjoyed it. My wife and I did too. Everyone wants to go back. We went during brunch hours on a Saturday and they're were several other families there. Im sure it's a different scene when UVA is in session or later in the day, but we had a pleasant time with our kids.

We have been to Firefly multiple times and have enjoyed it every time. The last time was for Trivia Night. It was fun and had diverse categories and questions. The food is good but being a tater tot fanatic the tater tot nachos and desert (different menu items) were creative genius. Will go again.

Came here for the quiz night and the energy is great. Very friendly staff and a good selection of drinks/food.

Brunch was unexpectedly, pleasantly chill. Came here more for the pinball than for the food, and thoroughly enjoyed the Ninja Turtles machine. The coffee could use some work, but otherwise the food and service were fine. The bathroom was immaculately clean. Overall, I really appreciated the welcoming to all atmosphere, especially as an out of town visitor.

Food was ok at best. Service more than anything ruined the visit. Waitress took our meal order without ever asking for our drink preference. Thank goodness water was on the table. Finally ask for tea and had to beg again for a refill. Ask for more napkins. I guess since there was three in our party we were blessed with three more napkins. First impressions are lasting impressions.

Fun place to gather as a family or group of friends. We played a board game with 8 in our group. We had a mix of alcoholic beverages and soft drinks. Some members had some desserts that tasted as good as they looked. Would definitely go back.

Personally and as an artist it was an awesome venue to display and share my art. For group events it's perfect to have a casual gathering with delicious food and drinks. I have dietary limitations too. They always have something I can eat too. Their gluten free and vegan cobbler and ice cream is perfect for those of us who don't get those treats too often because of rare availability. Melissa is always a gracious hostess. Charlottesville is very lucky to have such a unique restaurant for locally sourced foo

Stopped here on a road trip and I'm so glad we did. We were there in the middle of the day on a weekday so it was nearly empty. The food was great and the staff was lovely. Lots of vegan options too! Would stop again if I'm ever in the area.

Atmosphere - 5/5 Value - 4/5 Service - 4/5 Food - 3/5 Firefly has arcade games, board games, vegan options, trivia night, and a truly great drink menu

Thank you for being so GF friendly. Good food. Good service. Good vibe.

My family and I went on a short trip to Charlottesville Va. I have two children with Celiac disease so we were looking forward to visiting the Firefly family restaurant and game room. We had researched this restaurant and viewed their website which included numerous photos. It appeared to be a very nice clean place to eat. However upon our arrival we were shocked. The outside looked unkempt and there were many inappropriate things displayed outside as well as inside. On the website there are photos of

Came here often to play trivia night on Tuesdays as a travel nurse during a contract at UVA. Finally brought my wife and kids on a rainy Saturday afternoon. Not busy at all. One table that was large, like us (2 adults, 4 kids) that had just ordered. Ordered beers and found out they only had their brunch menu. Which is limited if you are not interested in breakfast. My wings came out before my beer did, for how settled most of the other tables were , seems like we got forgotten. Kinda felt like a Sunday vs a

Very fun. Very nice people. Very good atmosphere. Inclusive and cheerful.

Seems the employees bring their children who LOUDLY play games. It was so noisy we could hardly hear each other. Kids were behind the bar!! Is that legal? They werent serving behind the bar. But my group seems to want to go there. So it is what it is.

My partner & I stopped here on our way to Roanoke for lunch marking our third attempt to eat here and first success. Food was good & very filling with a fun arcade that kept us busy even after our food arrived. Highly recommend!

We met the owner Melissa, she was very sweet, she gave us directions to Main Street and her husband's antique market where of course we found a couple of treasures!

A welcoming place for all people with good bar food and drinks. I had the house burger which was very good. The cider was delicious. My spouse had the Philly cheese steak in a gluten free wrap which was also very good. Our daughter had the vegan grill cheese and loved it. The place is proudly nerdy and tolerant of all types of folks. We would definitely eat here again if we happen to be near Charlottesville.

The server wanted to take my drink even though it was half-full lol. Overall, the food and cocktail were amazing! Great, memorable experience. We recommend this place.

My whole family LOVES Firefly and it is absolutely our go-to place sometimes twice a week even for after school fun or weekend dinner. My kids love the popcorn chicken and their trademark tater tots but love the welcoming atmosphere and of course arcade games even more. We always feel so comfortable there - seating inside or outside, and we parents love the salads, sandwiches, and drink list! We loved it so much we recently had a family birthday party there and so easily organized a delicious colorful buffe

We've been here twice on our visits to Charlottesville because it's such a great stop for our family/friends to meet up and spend some time together - we found this place searching for a spot where we might be able to stay awhile after eating and play some games together and were not disappointed! Ample seating and games (both arcade and board) are provided for guests, and you can bring your own. (Last time we played an hour of our own DND campaign.) Pros: -The staff is incredible and friendly. -The food

Absolutely loved this restaurant, with welcoming staff and a fun atmosphere, it is a definite recommendation! With bingo and fun arcade games, it was absolutely awesome! Plus, the food was really good. I got their Mahi Tuna salad with a Shirley Temple. It all tasted really lovely and was a recommendation from our waitress who was really sweet! Thank you Firefly for the wonderful experience!

This was my second time visiting in 4 months span and I was less impressed. The server was not attentive whatsoever which made the vibe lame from the getgo. The food was ok, probably because the server didn't bring it right away, didn't offer condiments, napkins or flatware! The price of the pinball games was up from $0.50 to & 1.00 which would be ok if the machines actually sat level.

Best tots in the land! Chill place for drinks and games. Would definitely hang again, especially now that they have chocolate!

We go to firefly for a drag show. The food is always good but the service can be very hectic. You have to order at the bar and sometimes it's very difficult to get someone to take your order. The drag show is always fun and there are usually some awesome performances. The food is usually good.

Great food, mediocre service. Cool menu, and the food was yummy! We sat on the patio, and our service was incredibly slow. We weren't in a rush, but other servers ended up doing most of the work for our waitress. We went inside to ask about our drinks and asked someone passing by if we could put in our dinner order, as well as other random requests throughout the night. We even had to go inside to ask her for our check. Maybe there were extenuating circumstances, but it was odd how little we saw her. Everyo

The most amazing food and friendly staff. Trivia night is a family favorite tradition for 3 years now. Thank you for happy memories!

Fun, good food, cold drinks. Perfect place for a bar mitzvah party.

Enjoyed breakfast yesterday and the breakfast burrito was excellent and large enough for two meals.

The vegan crab cake was delicious. Kids liked grilled cheese and Mac and cheese. The cocktails also good. Staff are friendly. They are rather tater-tot heavy but hey!

Yesterday, was my first time visiting FireFly. It was Bingo Night. I loved that there elements of a safe LGBTQIA atmosphere. Pride Flag on the outside made it known that this place was amazing. The Staff was extremely friendly, hospitable and welcoming! The food was top notch and delicious! They even had SpongeBob SquarePants playing at the bar on the TV last night. Definitely will be back when I am back in town!

Over priced food. Amazingly slow service. 8 of 8 adults in our party were not impressed with the flavor in their entrees. The wait for the food at the price is unacceptable. Will never retien.

We arrived 10 minutes late to our 7:30 reservation for 5 people. Seated immediately. Waited 15 minutes then had to ask for someone to take our drink order. Took about 1.5 hours to get food which was cold somehow. Mine was ok because it was a salad but the rest of my family didn't even eat because it just wasn't good. Even my hungry 9yo son didn't eat his cheeseburger and fries - one of like five things he eats. How do you mess that up??? As an apology for taking so long, they brought a second round of drink

My husband and I ate here for the first time today. I took him out for birthday brunch. We were highly impressed! Not only did we feel safe and comfortable with the dining experience, but the food exceeded all of our expectations. Everything was fresh, and the flavors were incredible. Since moving to the area almost a year ago, we have tried quite a few different restaurants. This has been, by far, the best! The staff was very professional and accommodating as well. This will be a regular date n

It was a nice place to have a small dinner. Except dinner came with a long black hair while fiance has blonde hair and I have tight, curly hair. We notified the staff and they offered to remake it but my poor fiance had already lost his appetite. He was a little skeptical with the redo dish. We went with the expectation and mental image that this would have an actual game room. When in reality, it's just a line of pinball, skeeball, and a few arcade consoles. Just enough to keep anyone busy on a slow day.

I wish they had a bit faster service but otherwise awesome restaurant we loved it

The food was great! They have delicious vegan and gluten free options. Relaxed atmosphere. Only thing keeping me from giving a 5 star rating is our waiter. While very friendly, he was a bit hard to communicate that we were ready for our check. Maybe the locals love hanging out in the atmosphere for quite awhile after their meal. Who knows! The arcade and pool table were cool. Great decor. Looks like maybe an old Auto service/garage turned into an industrial restaurant. Their theme seemed to be board games/

Food was hit or miss, the burger I had was ok, but the vegan jackfruit pulled "pork" nachos were stellar. Fun atmosphere with arcade games and board games. Good quirky place to meet up with friends at.

The staff is just great. They come out of the gate being so nice and trusting that, as a patron, we'll reciprocate great service with politeness and tips. I'm more than happy to do that. My new go-to place. Great atmosphere and staff. Drink outside into the cold weather and buy one of their drinking blankets. So good.

The new owner Jennifer has really done wonders in turning this establishment around. The customer service has improved, the food quality, especially the bar management. I will be a returning patron dare I say someone who frequents this location. Oh and as dessert lover the changes that she has made to the dessert menu top tier!

They were extremely kind! They served us food after a very busy day. The bartender Miranda took care of us very well. This is our first visit, won't be the last for sure.

Philly was good, sweet potato fries could have been a bit crispier. Place is packed on trivia night, so if you want a seat go early!

The food was amazing, the atmosphere was great, and the staff was spectacular. After talking with the new owner for a little, she told me she bakes the brownies herself. So I had to get a brownie sundae. 10/10 recommend. Best brownie I ever had.

Really good resturant. Being the adventurous type I tried the vegan burger. It was delicious. The service was friendly. The atmosphere was welcoming and the artwork was really cool.

Frequently Asked Questions

What’s it like visiting an arcade today?

It’s a mix of nostalgia and high-energy fun! Many arcades blend retro classics like Pac-Man and pinball with modern VR games, racing simulators, and rhythm challenges — often with music, lights, and a social vibe.

Is it better to go alone or with friends?

Both can be great! Solo visits let you focus on your favorite games, while going with friends adds competition, teamwork, and laughs. Many people plan arcade meetups as a casual hangout or even date spot.

What should I bring to an arcade?

Usually just yourself and a way to pay (some arcades still use coins, others use cards or apps). If you're competitive, bring your A-game. If you're social, bring friends or meet new ones over multiplayer games.

What’s the best time to visit an arcade?

Weekdays or early afternoons are usually less crowded — perfect for focused play. Evenings and weekends bring the buzz, especially at barcades or venues with DJs, tournaments, or themed nights.

Can I meet new people at arcades?

Absolutely! Arcades attract a mix of casual players and serious gamers. Whether you're jumping into a four-player co-op or chatting between rounds, it's a fun, low-pressure way to connect over shared interests.

Are arcades still just for kids?

Not at all. While many arcades are family-friendly, there are also adult-oriented ones with full bars, 18+ nights, or vintage nostalgia themes. Arcades today cater to everyone — from first-timers to lifelong gamers.

Are there events or tournaments I can join?

Yes! Many arcades host regular competitions, retro nights, cosplay parties, and more. Whether you're into high scores or just want to watch and vibe, events add an extra layer to the experience.

What if I’m not great at arcade games?

No worries — arcades are about having fun, not being perfect. Try a variety of games, ask others for tips, and remember: the vibe is more “let’s play” than “let’s win.”

Why are arcade prize games so exciting to play?

Arcade prize games are a thrilling highlight in 2025! Claw machines, skee-ball, and ticket-redemption games like basketball offer a rush of skill and chance, with rewards like plushies, toys, or electronics up for grabs. Modern machines feature vibrant lights, digital scoreboards, and responsive controls, amplifying the fun. The lively arcade atmosphere, with cheering crowds and buzzing energy, makes every win feel epic.
