Dorky's Arcade

Dorky's Arcade

Reviews Summary

Dorky's Arcade offers a nostalgic experience with a mix of classic and modern games, appealing to both adults and families. Many praise its fun atmosphere, affordable pricing (including 25-cent games), and decent food/drink options. However, some note maintenance issues with broken machines and occasional poor customer service. The venue excels in retro charm but struggles with overcrowding and upkeep. While most visitors love the throwback vibe and recommend it, a few criticize its inconsistent quality. Ideal for casual fun, though peak hours can get loud. Overall, it's a beloved local spot with minor flaws.

All of us love this places, we've been coming here around 4 years, even though I think have change and I have enjoyed my time here less, machines are a little more expensive, and last time I was there more than a half of the machines weren't working or they have it in the back, my guess is that they are renovating. Hopefully they will be back how they were before. This place has decent arcade food, pizza, wing, drinks and local beers. At night it becomes like a music with lights and most of the people are a

Looking forward to seeing this place remodeled & the owner's future vision. Been here a few times over the years and kudos to anyone attempting to keep alive these classic machines. It is awesome to have a place to relive some youth and enjoy a huge variety of beers at the same time.

I love this place, I truly do. I took my partner here for our first date and ever since then we've gone every anniversary. We just recently went back in January for our 2 year anniversary, it was tons of fun and I love their snack bar. I will say, possible beg, to the owner to bring back the Photo machine????We love taking a photo every year, it's a great memory marker :) Besides that we had fun and I can't wait to see the remodel once it's done!

Super fun place to come to with or without kids! Parking can be tricky since it's right in the down town, but overall, it's in a good location with a bunch of food places nearby if you don't feel like snacking and drinking inside. It could have less pinball machines, and more up-to-date games, but that's just my personal preference. We love collectible card games too! Overall, it's a fun place, so we will keep coming back over and over again.

Sure there are better places to play pinball in Tacoma, but Dorky's has always been a great place to stop in for a few games of pinball and a beer after work. They change out their selection of games often enough to keep it interesting for me and only rarely have I seen their games be out of order. I don't like how loud and crazy it gets on Friday and Saturday nights but it seems to bring in good business for them.

Great arcade bar! Lots of games available old and new! They serve food and have a really good selection of drinks even from local breweries! Live music is also playing. Definitely a must-visit bar when in Tacoma!

So I'm convinced there's a wormhole at the front doors of this place, cause I'm about 14yrs old and its circa 1995-05 when I exit the Stargate front doors and fall into this rewind of a time/space continuum loop at this location.... I start wondering if my homeworks finished and where my 8th grade crush is at while masterfully banging at combo button moves that I forget i even used to know! Haha... great place!

So rad. Family of 5 and we spent $25 and played for almost an hour! There's $.25 games (older classics!) and $1.00 games (newer, big exciting ones) and lots in between. We had one steal our coins and the person at the counter refunded without issue and noted the game in a book. It's LOUD in here, as you would expect but thought I'd call it out. Parking was a little rough, since there's no dedicated parking and we had to drive around a couple times to find parking.

We hadn't been to Dorky's for a few months and were disappointed to see that most of the games were gone, and some of the ones left weren't working. This was one of the first places I discovered when I moved here, and it was a great spot to take the kids for a fun, inexpensive couple of hours entertainment. I genuinely hope they figure out whatever is happening and can return to their former glory!

The place is not what we expected its not the same what we saw in youtube when we go there we are disappointed about the place and the vibes not that clean too kinda dirty

Dorky?s is such a fun vintage arcade! We will visit this downtown Tacoma location on the occasional weekend night for some drinks and arcade games. We did have to present ID for 21 and over this night, but I know they allow minors during normal business hours. They serve a variety of beer, cider, and seltzers at the counter for a low price and they have ATMs and coin machines on site. I highly recommend trying out this great local location!

When I came to town, Dorky?s was on my list of things to do, and I'm glad I went. My mom, son, and I had an amazing time playing pinball, Mario Kart, air hockey, and more! This was one of my favorite places I visited in Tacoma. We had a wonderful time, and high recommend! You won't be disappointed.

6 pinball machines, and some other classic old arcade games. They have a large selection of beer. Unsure if bathrooms are wheelchair accessible. If you get hungry there's pizza by the slice directly across the street.

This is a great place! Spent an afternoon as a family here and had so much fun. Played Space Invaders, Pong, PacMan, Shoot Out and I can't even count how many pinball machines. The mechanics use real old fashioned quarters and they have plenty of change machines there. A great selection of beer and cider along with a good selection of sodas. Great pizza and amazing home made tomatoe soup! All ages are welcome until 10 pm and then it is adults only for the remainder of the night. Super experience and

Love this classic arcade. It smells like burnt pizza and it's actually pretty damn smokey in there but it's still worth it. Bring cash and quarters. One of the guys behind the counter suggested this beer and it was terrific. Edit- Dorky's replied (which is always cool) but I can't reply back so yea, people make mistakes and pizza's get burnt. They just needed to open another door or something in there. The upstairs by guitar hero was super smokey. We still stayed because the place is awesome. The beer sugg

Cool, old style arcade with classic and newer video games. Alcohol is served, and they have a food menu. You need quarters to play games. There is a charge to get cash at the ATM or from the cashier. They have a few change machines that dispense quarters. Overall, it was a fun place to go. Parking on Sunday is free or pay at the meter.

So normally Dorkys is amazing but apparently right now they're remodeling. Half of the games that they have up don't work and it's a very limited selection. Beer selection still great and customer service is still great.

Machines will take your money and not give you credits. What cost you a dollar now cost two.. And BE CAREFUL of the punching bag game!! You know the one where you punch a hanging bag as hard as you can for a high score.... Well when you go to throw a punch and miss the bag, this is where i say BE CAREFUL because even though you missed the bag you still hit something!!! The stupid machine next to the bag and when that happens you're gonna have bloody knuckles.. I know first hand plus seen several other peop

I hear it's different than before however, it was our first time there. We were visiting a family member in the hospital and took a walk to Dorky's. My boy and I had fun! It was a perfect break for the occasion. The host was nice, friendly, and chill.

Been here a few times during 21 and older hours, fun little place for a date or chilling with friends. Took the kids here during the day after our baseball game was rained out, they loved it. Wasn't to badly busy the kids where able to play all the games they wanted without to long of a wait. Definitely recommend checking this place out, I like they have different drinks you don't see at other bars, the food hits the spot too.

Amazing arcade! It has every game you could hope for. I've never seen a lot of the games they have here anywhere else. It's amazing to see an arcade still thriving today. Any video game enthusiast should make the effort to come here at least once if you're in the area. Don't let the surrounding area deter you!

This place was so much fun. My second time here, and there are so many games. We love air hockey, Mario cart and terminator shooting game. Spent our 30th birthday here, they have alcohol and lots of non alcoholic drinks and lots of snacks and food options

I'd like to say this place is so fun and worth every QUARTER! My kids had a blast even though the fun wasn't about them (haha.) They sell food and it was actually very good along with snacks and BEER! The beer prices range between $13 per beer and as low as $3/$4 per beer. We bought snacks, tacos and 4 of the more pricey beers at $11 a beer x4 and spent $40 on coins (aka quarters) for 3 hours of FUN! Remember about $40 was for beer $20 on snacks and a few tacos. It was indeed worth the money and everyone wh

BIRTHDAY PARTY I had a great time throwing my son's 7th birthday party here. Staff were very nice and attentive to my parties needs and wants. nice cheep arcade games with great pizza. Make sure to ask for quarters to be ready ahead of time like we did. Highly recommend for kids and adults parties. Way more fun then a bounce house. Thanks for everything here... I can't wait for my birthday party here...

Love Dorky's so much!!! We had moved away for a few years but recently moved back to the area. Its still mine and my wife's favorite spot to play arcade games, staff are amazing and extremely helpful as always!!! 10/10 would recommend to anyone. Edit: Yes we did see the owner this day and they are amazing!

What a fun place. I like to come here when I am waiting for a table. It really brings you back in time, I love walking around and seeing everyone having such a good time. And some of the games are only 25 cents still.

First time here. My family likes to frequent the local arcades. Good concept and atmosphere, but several games were down or broken. It would be fun to add a few more classics like Galaga, Space Invaders, Donkey Kong, Mario Bros, Rampage.

I played one pinball machine, and found the tilt setting was so sensetive that hitting the flipper button titled it. I left after that, because ever other machine was obviously broken. These guys gotta get their act together. I've been there before when everything was fine, but this was a total waste of time and money. If you can't keep your machines working during a remodel, finish your work instead of ripping off your customers.

Playing games here brings me back to my childhood 30 years ago when life was easier and we were all so innocent. Supposed to have really good selection of beers and ciders. I will visit again if it is still here but right now too far away from home and only open in 3 days a week.

As my kiddo put it, "this was much better than the petting zoo". Which, if you don't know, that is pretty high praise. Family friendly before 9:00 p.m., which was perfect. Some of the classic video games are here, including ones from my childhood that I had long since forgotten. And they have Tron, which is my all-time favorite game, and a four-player version of a Minecraft game, which might just be my kid's new favorite game. ( special thanks to all the people who left power up cards on top of the game for

Kind of a strange place some broken machines maybe the anesthetics of it all.

Easy to get to, friendly staff, lots of arcade games that are challenging and fun! There's something for everyone. Games take quarters and theres several machines to change out cash. It's an arcade place- don't expect tiny kids to be entertained. Good for around ages 8yo- adults. Good selection of beer, drinks, and a decent selection of food. There's a few tables to sit at and eat or rest. When staff is approached about an issue with a game (if any) they are quick to respond and try their best to fix it.

God we wanted to like this place: Needs a hardcore MAKEOVER. If they spent half as much time overcharging games that are older than I am, and put some energy in the wall, locks on the bathroom, cleanliness and their overall hospitality this place could actually be amazing and get some business. The blonde lady-employee or owner who knows, she is just not kind the way she talks to you-or about you when she thinks you can't hear. I just don't understand why have such a gem and not take care of it? She seemed

A good place to hang out with family and/or friends. There are plenty of machines to play, but it gets too crowded on the weekends. I'd give it 5 stars, but I don't remember their restroom being clean. It's always been filthy, and a toilet is not working.

Really cool spot for arcade games. We went on a Taco Tuesday and the food was great and only $2 for a loaded taco. They have several change machines and an ATM so you don't need to worry about having enough quarters for the games.

A nice place for old school arcade games. Brings back nostalgia and the hours pass by.

Would not recommend their late night service. I called and they answered, ?hi we close in a half hour.? *click. I can understand you're trying to get home but there are better ways to communicate with a potentially paying customer. In response to your response Interesting approach to customer service. How exactly is hanging up on a potential customer considered acceptable? Busy or not, a little professionalism goes a long way. Maybe reconsider how you communicate with customers, no matter the time.

The guy at the door that checked our IDs was coked out. 75% of the games didn't work. Place went down hill. Did the owner get a divorce? Had a blast.

it is definitely FUN place to go either you r big fan of game or not, besides, you can buy drinks for the adults/alcohol n kids/sodas, snacks. you can have hole pizza. there r 5 tables n seats. old school games remind your childhood n fun to play. the huge screen playing Pac man... fun! there r exchange machines n ATM. I did not see a diaper change table, but there was table? chair so you might be able to use them indeed. the street parking always sucks in anywhere.

Unfortunately they are not what they were. They are undergoing a "remodel" and judging by the looks of things, it's gonna take years. Not sure what direction they are going. All the games were gone. And a bunch of the ones that were available were either not plugged in, or were just not working. They set up some DJ station instead of having more games available. All in all was very disappointing and I will not be returning until the "remodel" is complete (whenever that may be).

Lots of cool arcade cabinets & pinball machines. Staff was super friendly & the atmosphere was great. Didn't try the food, but it smelled yummy. All the games take quarters & the most expensive were still only $1.

Don't waste your time going here any more. Went last night after years of going to this place for it being one of the best old school arcades in the area. They were obviously bought out by someone who couldn't afford to buy the nice games out from previous owners, barely any retro games remain, most of the games are out of order, and the fun things like guitar hero and Mario kart are all gone. Came here from Bremerton to show my friend this place and it was a waste of time for an arcade 1/4 the size it was.

It's really sad what has happened to this place. I hadn't been there in about a year. Maybe 10% if the games are left and half of those don't work. Back room is blocked off too. I wonder if they are going to close soon.

I had not been to dorkys since some time in the mid 2000's. It is still just as fantastic as ever. I love their pinball selection. The Ghostbusters pinball is a machine I have only seen one other place, and they had a few others on the rare side of nostalgia. I didn't try their food, because back in the day it was not great and kinda expensive,BUT it smelled great and prices were more reasonable then I remember. I will for sure be going back for the games alone, and maybe get a bite of food just to see if i

Best arcade in Tacoma. The staff was super nice, and ROB went out of way to make sure everthing was right, he even came to our table to slice our pizza, so kids can have a smaller piece. It was my birthday when we went. Love all the games. Thank you DORKY'S!!

Just went tonight and the only game I could relate to from the 80s was Ms Pac-man. On my last visit a couple years ago I played Frogger, Dig Dug, Pac-man, Donkey Kong, Donkey Kong Jr., Defender and Mario Brothers. This visit, none of them were available. Theres a new crowd of yuppies that visits this place and it was clear none of them were there to play video games. I stood there uninterrupted for 2 hours playing Ms. Pac-man. I reminisced the feelings of joy that i would see on my kids faces and time had n

3 stars for the service that day. They did have 2 large birthdays but pizza took an hour and staff was fighting with each other. Good prices on games and good selection of beers. Kids had a blast. We'll be back to try again soon. Update: Great quick response from owner. I get having a bad day once in awhile - that floor guy needs to go! ;) Thanks for the response.

What a horrible experience. Went inside to check out the place and most of the games were turned off or had out of order signs on them. Place looked dirty and unkept. No food and I don't think I would want any from there anyways. Don't go to Dorkys.

Some pin ball machines will take your quarters but dont credit for those said quarters. so a $1 game your actually spending like $2 or $3.

Great place for old and new games! Also, plenty of classic pinball. Beer/Cider selection is pretty good too.

Oh, if you love handing over your money to someone who couldn't care less about customer service, this is the place for you! The owner is impressively unprofessional?almost like it's a skill. Do yourself a favor and spend your money elsewhere.

Great little hangout that has some classic games. I thought it was a little $, but I have been to penny versions of this. I will say their drinks are wildly expensive, and they could do a better job on balancing that out to add value......leading to more sales and customers. Overall, it's a decent place that's fun to burn 30-60 mins or until you get thirsty.

Wow this hidden gem is awesome sauce. Crazy how many game they have at this establishment. Old and new a wide variety. Honestly feel like ages 5+ can play here. I can't belive this place is in the heart of downtown Tacoma. Definitely will be back again.

Great arcade! All the old classics (most only $0.25) Great place to get your game on! Regular Arcade during the daytime (minors aloud) at night (after9pm) turns into a night club environment!

What can I say about Dorkys? I love their massive selection of drinks, photo booth, and wide variety of arcade games! I've had a birthday party there, enjoyed events and can say it's fabulous. Perfect for adults and kids alike.

This place was cool!! They had a DJ and some throwback games and some new games, too! Beer was expensive tho. We had a blast!!

What a Great arcade remind me of when I was a teenager in the 70s with all the arcades we had to go to great place go there you won't regret it

Today's Dorkys Arcade 11th Birthday. Arcade Games are free brings back memories. The food is amazingly delicious. Face painting being done also. The employees friendly and professional.

Edit: 5 stars because the owner's response. The machines are getting out of order. The Shaq pinball's left button won't active unless smashed, Tomb Raider's green gun is falling apart, and the red control on Pacman's 4 player feels like confetti. There's AC now but if you're not going to maintain these games then haul them out or put a maintenance sign on them that they're being fixed. There's beer stains on the paper of a few of them.

Went here on a double date to eat dinner and play games, but the kitchen was shut down and there were almost no games that worked properly- half were covered in caution tape or blocked off. The bathroom had the toilet paper roll sitting on the floor, the paper towel dispenser was broken, and the door was held open by a dirty cinderblock. Felt very run down and unwelcoming. Not sure what's going on.

Good beer selection and they have Lunar lander!!!!!

This place is really hit or miss. The last time we were there (11/22/23) between pinball and Zoltan the machines stole about $5 from us. I've been disappointed every time we went in 2023, but also had good experiences in 2022.

We went to Dorky?s with our friends for the first time in maybe 5 years and it really felt like a ghost of the place it once was. The number of games has decreased, the overall vibe was a bit chaotic, and several games we tried to play didn't work or didn't work properly. I personally wouldn't make a trip back.

Super cute, tons of pinball and other games as well as fun beer choices

Lady with the galaxy overalls and the very pretty chocolate queens at the counter are so kind and helpful and seem to really enjoy their jobs. Me and my daughters had so much fun thanks to you two! And hoping yall found the man who's wallet my daughter turned in. Thanks for the fun time we be back again soon!

Did they put the games back yet? I went recently and none of the games were there. The only reason I come is for Mario kart and guitar hero but neither were available only about 5 machines were operating

Dorky's was awesome!! The food and drinks were a lil on the pricey side, but the arcade games are super affordable!! Typicallyost games there range between as little as $0.25-$1.00+ My fiance and I had a blast the first time we went, the second time we decided to take out daughter!.

Decent selection of 80?s style arcade games. Unique place to say the least.

This place is so much fun! Not only can you play retro games you played as a kid, but they have some newer games as well which are a blast! To top it off, they have beer to purchase as well as pizza that is reasonably priced and tastes pretty good! The service was actually really good as well. Was there with quite a few coworkers and the woman there went out of her way to make sure we had enough chairs for all of us and was clearing out table really quickly to make room for us all! We will definitely b

The place itself could be maintained and cleaned a whole lot better than it is currently. However, its conveniently located nearby a favorite restaurant of ours, and was a fun place to spend a little time. The air hockey is by far my favorite. I also like all the varieties of pinball. But, the games are a bit pricey imo. $1-$2 for a min or two is a bit much. I understand that they're old, likely expensive machines that must require specific maintenance, but I still feel like its a bit high especially since

My favorite place in Tacoma for vintage arcade games. There is actually a mix of old and new but I love the nostalgia this place evokes in me. I'm glad a place like Dorkys exists, it's always a fun time!

I have not been to dorkys yet. Planning on going this coming Saturday with my friend and nephew. I love arcade's and this one popped up, when I google searched things to do in Tacoma. Read through some of the reviews. And can't wait to see if it's as good as 95%are claiming. See you Saturday July 22nd2023??so we went to Dorkys yesterday and had a blast. Fun place to hang out. We spent about 3hours there. So many games, Cheaper to play then I thought it was going to be.( 11yr old) nephew Loved it. We got the

The fianc? took me on a date here a few nights ago. Even though they've been around a while it was my first time checking it out. Played more pinball than ever before. Very friendly staff and great pinball selection.

Had a good time overall. Only stopped in to play some pinball. The machines could use some TLC. And for the volume it could prolly stand to expand but a good time w a decent selection and coin cost over all.

Currently under construction but everytime I've gone its always fun. The location is perfect with a surprising amount of parking nearby

80s style arcade/pizzaria/bar. Kids are welcome till 9pm then adults only till midnight! This place takes me back to my childhood - pinball, pacman & much more!

Probably my favorite place in Tacoma! Lots of great memories. Can't wait to see what it's like after the remodel.

Such a fun little place! My friend and I were looking to kill some time prior to a concert at the Tacoma Dome and Dorky?s fit the bill! Fun atmosphere, lots of games, plenty of quarter machines, great drink selection! I'll definitely be back!

Great selection of retro games. Some of the best maintained cabinets I've come across over the past few years. Zookeeper! Phoenix! (Fingers crossed they'll get a Time Pilot, Pooyan or Elevator Action before my next visit.)

Dorky's is the place to have fun and feel nostalgia for the days of "hitting the arcade". There's always good times when one goes to Dorky's. And, yes I'm rocking a Naruto vest. ??

Great place nice atmosphere owner is a Christian he's working hard to make the place even better alliance the time

Small venue that tried to accommodate a party of 50+ with having the spaces or equipment necessary to do so. Arcade games were cool for older people their, however party was mainly teenagers and majority of the games are geared for adults above 30. Owner became overwhelmed when he realized they bit off more than they could handle. They need to stick to serving and advertising to adults old enough to drink alcohol. I'll never return this place.

Great barcade! Mario Kart is super fun. Lots of pinball to choose from, and a large selection of beverages.

I wish I could give a 0 because I've called 5 times got one answer and the only thing that was said to me was hello. Welcome to dookeys were open and hung up on me. Now there's screening my calls and won't answer.

To be honest it's ok I went to go play Galaxy Galaga and yet was broken and well more for family well yet don't know hoe's after hours

Fun little arcade with a good selection of pinball, retro cabinets, and a smattering of newer/modern games. Only detracting 1 star due to how crazy loud it can get in there as the night goes on with their speakers blasting throughout the arcade. However, overall I had a fun time playing some pinball and hanging with friends.

Best Barcade in the PNW. Main focus is classic arcades. Tons of machines in good shape. Love that everything takes quarters. Awesome beer/cider selection, good inexpensive food, and generally easy parking. They rotate through some real classics you never see anywhere else, like Xevious, Jungle Hunt, Spy Hunter, etc?. Can you beat my Tapper score?

Had an amazing time there! We came down to Tacoma for a comedy show and were looking for something to do after that wasn't too expensive. The drinks were reasonably priced, they had tons of fun games and good music. Definitely will be back!

Frequently Asked Questions

What’s it like visiting an arcade today?

It’s a mix of nostalgia and high-energy fun! Many arcades blend retro classics like Pac-Man and pinball with modern VR games, racing simulators, and rhythm challenges — often with music, lights, and a social vibe.

Is it better to go alone or with friends?

Both can be great! Solo visits let you focus on your favorite games, while going with friends adds competition, teamwork, and laughs. Many people plan arcade meetups as a casual hangout or even date spot.

What should I bring to an arcade?

Usually just yourself and a way to pay (some arcades still use coins, others use cards or apps). If you're competitive, bring your A-game. If you're social, bring friends or meet new ones over multiplayer games.

What’s the best time to visit an arcade?

Weekdays or early afternoons are usually less crowded — perfect for focused play. Evenings and weekends bring the buzz, especially at barcades or venues with DJs, tournaments, or themed nights.

Can I meet new people at arcades?

Absolutely! Arcades attract a mix of casual players and serious gamers. Whether you're jumping into a four-player co-op or chatting between rounds, it's a fun, low-pressure way to connect over shared interests.

Are arcades still just for kids?

Not at all. While many arcades are family-friendly, there are also adult-oriented ones with full bars, 18+ nights, or vintage nostalgia themes. Arcades today cater to everyone — from first-timers to lifelong gamers.

Are there events or tournaments I can join?

Yes! Many arcades host regular competitions, retro nights, cosplay parties, and more. Whether you're into high scores or just want to watch and vibe, events add an extra layer to the experience.

What if I’m not great at arcade games?

No worries — arcades are about having fun, not being perfect. Try a variety of games, ask others for tips, and remember: the vibe is more “let’s play” than “let’s win.”
