We got signed up with "all kids can bowl for free". I checked with Don carter's to make sure it was legit before signing up. I added my oldest so the kids can have fun together. The first time we came here it was packed. I went around and had to circle back around to find the handicapped parking. As soon as I had everyone out a lady came by and said I would have to park somewhere else. I explained its handicapped and thats where I am parking. She said they were having a festival and that the owner would
Joined the Rum Bucket Lousy bowlers league and am having the best time!!! Met some amazing people and became friends. 100% recommend this place.
Bowled a few times and ate there before. Decent but nothing that really stand out to me. My biggest gripe I have is the use of AI art on their pages rather than finding a real artist/graphic designer. Consider finding local high school students and give em free bowling for that season.
I haven't bowled in years! Came here with my sister. Gotta say the lanes are still amazing and everything was very clean. We both had a great time.
We are at Don Carter every week, sometimes 2 or 3 times a week. The staff is amazing. Brad, Jori, Jacob, Brett, Karen and all of the others are all ready and quick to help however they can. Everything is always clean, lanes are well taken care of, the food is great, and the kids love the arcade.
I'm disappointed that the upstairs party room is not family friendly or disabled friendly. No where on the website does it state their party room is not accessible to handicap people or strollers/wagons. So with that being said after driving in two hours alone with twin 1 year old for a family party you can imagine my frustration of having to ask people to hold my babies while I dragged their 100lbs+ wagon up the stairs because the website failed to mention this party room is not handicap or family friendly
Come here every weekend thought to bring the kids they wanted to charge us 70 dollars for 4 ppl to bowl for 30 minutes it's 20 just for us 2 and the darts are not here from last wee then at the bar we get the bucket she poured 2 different liquors like we were dumb it's usual 4 different liquors they put in the buckets a 20 dollar drink instant saying they do have the product as much as they charging to bowl they can't even keep product or there doing this cause we are black but we definitely are regulars he
I haven't bowled in years! This past Sunday we decided to take the kids out to bowl. Gotta say the lanes are still amazing and everything was very clean. Might even be trying to get me and also one of my sons in a league here.
My husband caught the bartender and the server with pink hair stealing. They charged him double for his meal and when he brought it up they did not reverse the charge but gave him cash back. When he brought it up to his teammates one of them remembered being charged double last week and then having a second charge the next day. Check your receipts and don't trust the staff. They're clearly shady.
My coworker and I had a good time. Bowled for 2 hours. Had lunch. I had boneless wings and he had the Philly cheese steak sandwich. Very good and filling. Also the staff we very personalble and helpful. Definitely recommend.
Great hometown feel. Simple American food at good price. Real community happening with league bowling, line dancing lessons, and games for the kids plus slots to boot.
HOLY JESUS these pickels are YUUUHGE. huge. Lol so good. The beef quesodilla was so amazing too! Drinks are just right. I love this place. It's always my bf and it's go too for lil days nights
I absolutely love their homeschool day. It's $8 a person for 2 hours of bowling with rentals included. And at the end they gave everyone a tour of the back to see how the machines worked. It was a fantastic time. We got to treat several kids to their first time ever bowling, and I think they're going to be back. Thanks for putting on a great time.
I Came And Won At Bowling ??
We had the best time celebrating Father's Day with our family!!!!
Went to play a few games the guy at the counter ask what's the names told him the 3 names and spelled each one for him he spelt all the names wrong and I couldn't change it ordered pizza and when we told the person who collects the garbage around just grabbed our pizza after we told them we wasn't done with it and proceeded to throw away half a pizza what a waste of $57 on 2 games and a few on pizza
We had a great time bowling there. There are a good amount of lanes, but sometimes you might have to wait a bit if it's really crowded. The food is average if you order the cheap stuff. My friend did enjoy the more expensive stuff. Something to note is bowling with kids that use bumpers will have to stay up for all that play on that lane. Hope you enjoy your time.
Very nice bowling alley with good food drinks and great staff
Took the kids to play a little bit of arcade games and the GM, I think it was Jamie, made sure we had a really great experience and was incredibly kind. Made me and my kids nights, definitely will be coming back more.
Staff are so nice I am doing to autism league every Monday. They just support us autism kids and adults and veterans.
Nice clean place had fun with the family bar inside is nice wed is all you can bowl 9-5 for 10.00 not sure on shoe price but over all good time. For those wondering about mask... they must be worn in common areas such as walking bowling alley to bathrooms and snack bar.. as well ordering drinks from the bar unless you are sitting and consuming food or drinks...
We love Bowling here!! With kids, friends or just us two. They have great food & drinks. A large Arcade.
Advertised Kentucky Derby then show up no live gambling on the Derby only on an app. Nope. Never again. No mention of this on social media or website. Boooo
I really enjoyed myself these people welcome me and my family so have a wonderful birthday party oh my God when I tell you all it was worth it I had the best time ever food was delicious right one time??????????
Great place to have a party. The hostess handles everything, and let's you have fun with your guest.
This place was so much fun. Had a retro feel but updated.
Really is a fun place for families and single people.
Best bowling alley in Rockford, in my opinion. The crowd can be a little sketchy and rude on Saturday nights, but it's manageable. Only thing I disliked is getting a lane right in front of a speaker will leave your throat and ears hurting at the end of the night since you have to shout to talk to your group. The music variety is great and cosmic bowling is super fun. The drink specials are amazing as well. Food is mediocre, I've definitely had better food at other bowling alleys, but no biggie.
Had a get time with family we took my special needs son. He had so much fun.
Larger bowling alley compared to others in the area. It's an older facility, needs a little updating for signage.
Really nice place to bowl and hang out, very spacious.
We had a great time bowling here! The food was great, the place was very clean, and the staff was friendly!
Great lanes, great staff. They won't turn the TVs on for my league, which is unfortunate though.
today was a horrible experience for me and I've been bowling in there league when i was in middle school. so around 630ish are pins in our lanes were not resetting. I even press the button on the side of the ball return and they still didnt reset the pins. which let me know that they have to do a full reset at the front counter. I go to the front counter and tell the lady can she please reset the pins for lane 5 because since we thre... i didnt even get to finish because she cut me off and said nope, not go
Service is amazing, the vibe was too. The food is great and cheap although it's far from Chicago it was worth coming all the way here.
We always have a blast at Don Cartes, Adults and kids the same!!
I had a great time, customer service was good, the atmosphere was good, the drinks were good...I'll go back
They need to bring back the free passes from around town. ????
Valarie the lady ant the front desk immediately had an attitude and was incredibly rude, but let us play a round anyway. We were quick then went to visit a friend who was also in the building. She then screamed at us to leave when we still had 10 minutes before they closed. Very disrespectful the entire time though we did nothing wrong. I'll bowl somewhere else next time.
I'll start with the customer service. It was amazing the guy at the fromt desk who's name I didn't catch not only gave us buy one get one but also had cards for 3 free games! He was helpful with proper shoe sizing. Came and offered my daughter a 4 pound ball without us even asking ! Very attentive! Even came out 3 times to ask if we wanted bumpers (on the 3rd ask my daughter was frustrated thay she wasn't doing well so we gave her the bumpers) we played 2 games. Ate a BUNCH of fried food and some grilled ch
Went this past weekend with friends. I hadn't been there in many years. I used to go all the time back in high school. I was blown away by how nice it was. The bowling was great. The snack bar was really a surprise. It was more like a full service restaurant than a bowling alley snack bar! I was impressed. They have a awesome arcade going on also. If you've never been or it's been a while, give it a try.
We had their fish fry tonight and I had the baked cod, so good! The Beer batter was just right my husband and daughter loved it! There was a lot of baked cod in the dinner. You get a potato choice, baked beans, coleslaw which is the best I've had and garlic bread! You have to check it out, bowling alleys have the best food! Great job Don Carters, we'll be back!
Great ltl bar upstairs, nice upper deck,, w/ a view, professional & knowledgeable staff! Thanks, we'll be back!
Jeeps and Tacos 2025!!
Had a great time and if you pick up one of their bowling coupons or online they have really good deals and their wings are decent for the price!
Lane conditions during the Saturday portion of our tournament were terrible. One lane fine, other so slick the ball wouldn't move. Same issue on the same pair for others during the Sunday portion. Management is aware of the issue but seems to be doing nothing to correct it.
The front desk woman Valarie immediately had an attitude and was incredibly rude, but let us play a round anyway. So to show my appreciation I gave her a 20% tip. Which I regretted when she kicked us out when we still had 10 minutes before they closed. Very disrespectful. I'll bowl somewhere else next time.
We had a blast bowling but for anyone going here for the first time, don't bowl with the time limit. It was our first visit there and the lady at the counter explained our options for lanes. You can pay per game or pay for two hours. We were aiming for three games and went with the two hour limit for the four of us based on recommendation. The biggest issue is that our game kept glitching or freezing. It happened 4+ times and even if your game freezes it will still count towards your time limit. We weren't
Friendly staff, lively, welcoming place, with amazing chicken wings
This place has a great family environment! My son was in the middle school bowling league and I couldn't say anything bad about the whole experience. Everyone was wonderful!
My kids enjoyed the arcade room. Paid for a bowling lane and a man that worked their kept trying to rush us saying they will be closing soon. We asked what time they closed was told 10pm and it was only around 8pm, one of the lady's that also work their said well it can take that long to bowl. We finished around 915pm and we sat their to continue eating the food that was ordered. They were not very friendly! The stars given was is for the bar area, the lady's over their were nice and the arcade upgrades!
I had a wonderful time here, and it was my first visit. We also ordered food, and it was delicious.
First thing that happens is my wife throws her first ball and falls to the ground. The approach to the lanes were so tacky, I might as well wore my own shoes. Little later, the lane freezes up. 15 minutes goes by. Little later another issue with a ball from another lane halts the play. Another 15 mins. Three frames into the third game, they shut us down and said you're out of time. Never again.
Please update your website. If you aren't going to offer the 9:30-11:30pm Jackpot Bowl on Fridays and Saturdays you shouldn't have it advertised on your website. I rarely go out, and finally had time and paid for a sitter for my children. It was a costly inconvenience for me.. Then I go to speak to the ladies at the front desk to make sure they are aware this is still being advertised and was immediately talked over. It would be nice if anyone cared about my concern with this...
Food is delicious and if you have a daily special you get a good price on a large portion. The staff is always very helpful and the lanes are well kept. They contribute to the community . All around great place. If you're into gaming they have fun for both children and adults. This location also has room to host banquets and great craft beer specials. Always a good time when we visit!
Watched my friends child throw a 298 great game great place every one was cheering for him to throw a 300
Derby day!!! Great if you get there early. People are pleasant and helpful, any later they get surly because it's crowded and don't know how to place bets can't get drinks.
It's so much fun! Everyone is minding their own business, and the staff there is really helpful. I didn't get to spend too much time at the bar, but the bartender was very nice. All in all, I had a great experience! ?
Great fun, clean building and great food. Valerie was awesome as a league rep and an awesome worker. All the staff there has great attitudes and make it so much fun to bowl and hang out. We just wrapped up a league tonight and had the BEST time. They really made it worth it. Thanks for all you do and we can't wait for the next league!!
Very welcoming and helpful staff. I did not ear but others I was with enjoyed their food. Bathrooms were clean. Sue Michaelsen
Went for a High School Tournament. It was packed with people. The snack bar was AWESOME. The girls working the snack bar were very efficient and fast and they were slammed with orders.
Bowled in a tournament here, enjoyed myself, huge and spacious!
Place is clean. Place doesn't smell like an old bowling alley. Love the people I bumped into being a visitor for the very first time. They're very welcoming and they made me feel like I'm a regular at their place. The bowling lanes were very well kept. I would bowl there again if the same or another tournament is held there. I can't play there all the time because it's 40+ miles away from me. One way. Keep up the very good work you've been doing!
Such a fun place! The lanes were clean and the staff was super friendly ??
Great service, friendly workers. The bartender (I unfortunately did not get her name) was very nice and helpful. Arcade seems to have gotten better in the last couple years. They even have cheap, plain socks for free incase you forget your's and don't want to buy some. Had a great time! They also have yummy boneless wings!
I personally give them a very low rating due to the fact that they tend to discriminate. Not over race so much but rather what they deem to be of a class favorable to them. I have seen them run out people that they thought were homeless and I knew they were not. They simply were not dressed and clean or closed because they had just got off of work. I definitely do not think that that's an appropriate way to deal with the public for any business establishment. After having witness this numerous times I will
First time here in a long time. Slot to offer here from horse track parlor, adult gaming area, kids area, large bars including an outdoor patio and of course bowling. Owner operator was very kind and introduced herself to us during our short time there. We hear that their Friday fish fry is good. We will return.
Nice environment! This place is a family friendly, family owned place. There is activities for every age. They open at 6 a.m. for the gamblers and give away free donuts and coffee. They open for bowling in the morning and have leagues for all ages. Whether you want to practice, bowl for fun or join a league, it is a place to go for fun! Wednesday night is Country Nite...get your boots out and scoot across the floor.
My buddy wanted to stop at the taproom upstairs. They were open but it was a private party so maybe call before you try to go there. We hung at Shooters for a bit. Becka was a friendly bartender. Stopped by the arcade for a few before we left. Not a big selection of games but it wasn't why we went in the first place. Would recommend.
Great atmosphere! Good food from the bar and reasonbly priced.
Very poor service at the bar and very poor management. I feel like they only pay attention to certain regulars and they always have broke down touch tunes . When i asked for help they lied and told me the touch tunes was broken . The bar tenders take forever and i had to ask for my drinks 3 times.
Super attentive staff! They took care of our group of 10 promptly and we were able to start bowling within minutes of arrival. Unfortunately we had a spill but a staff member was immediately there to help us clean it up. The food was also surprisingly good for a bowling alley and more than exceeded our expectations. Do yourself a favor and try their fries!
This is a fun place to bowl and the prices are great. Lots of lanes and staff is helpful. Full menu in the lounge.
We enjoy the dance lessons. However, we are roasting. The fan hasn't worked since August 2022. Can we please get a new fan?? The air conditioner doesn't seem to be working either.
Cool place and great food, but who hired Valarie?? Questionable and mildly racist front desk employees?
Very pleasant experience overall really. The staff are very helpful and my party felt well accommodated. They have a bar and serve food (which is in my opinion pretty good). It's a great place for family bowling and they also have bowling leagues that you can join if you find yourself wanting to bowl outside of casual play. I would easily recommend Don's to anyone.
We we're there for a fundraiser, the staff was good! But the crowd outside of our event was not! They took stuff, like my daughter's $300 camera that she bought with her own money!!! :-( Not a place I would go outside of the fundraiser!
Family-friendly, fun and colorful - it's a great indoor spot for fun in the hot summer months, and in winter too! The snack bar/cafe inside the bowling alley actually has great food and good prices, too. Plenty of helpful staff to give you pointers on your game, if you're into it. =)
Best time I had in 15 years!!! The food menu will blow your mind. We tried just about everything and it was delicious! Do yourself a favor and grab the family or some friends and check out Don Carter Lanes.
I like the lanes and the food is very good! The tournaments do not have enough seating. When you move down the lanes, you could be standing a long time.
Had an amazing time with friends and family. I only gave 4 stars because I reserved 3 lanes and paid $60 per lane for bowling and the lanes were shut down in the middle of our last game. When I paid to reserve the lanes, the staff failed to mention that the lanes are shut down 30 mins prior to closing time and I feel I didn't get my monies worth. Other than that, we had a great time!
Food is terrible. Why is it ok to wear pajamas to work. Valarie should get a job where she doesn't deal with the public. Like nighttime janitorial work after everything is closed.
This is a fun place to go, it has a nice atmosphere. My issue is the people who work at the front counter. 2 ladies in particular are rude and condescending. There is just a miserable vibe among the employees whether you are there in person or call. Keep track of your league payments because their book keeping is not the greatest. The pizza is garbage, probably why they are able to give it away as a prize all the time.
I always love coming to don carter, and regardless of what happened recently I will continue to support this business. I have had issues in the past with drinks and since then, they have resolved anything and are like new again. Please keep up the work team. Well see you soon
Car show Don Carter Lanes and it was a absolutely great time. The sponsors were great and the participants were great if you weren't there you missed a good time.
Pretty good place. We took a package for $40 we could play one lane for close to 2 hours or something. pretty awesome but since you're only paying $40 the downside is you have to deal with equipment which is a bit old nothing that will cause issues but it's something to note all things considered the staff is very friendly and the place has a good ambience
I love this place. It is like my second home. I love to bowl. Many options to choose from how much you want to bowl, the snack bar has a variety, and if you like they have adult beverages. Great staff, and always helpful.
My husband and I have done multiple leagues here. The lanes are not maintained as well as some others in the area. Sometimes a ball will get stuck and not come back on the return as normal. My husbands ball seems tonget stuck more often than others, and has been told multiple times by a counter person, in a less-than-polite manner, that it is his fault, and not that of the lane. The ball is cleaned regularly and in good shape. It never gets stuck at any other bowling alley that we've ever been to. I
It’s a mix of nostalgia and high-energy fun! Many arcades blend retro classics like Pac-Man and pinball with modern VR games, racing simulators, and rhythm challenges — often with music, lights, and a social vibe.
Both can be great! Solo visits let you focus on your favorite games, while going with friends adds competition, teamwork, and laughs. Many people plan arcade meetups as a casual hangout or even date spot.
Usually just yourself and a way to pay (some arcades still use coins, others use cards or apps). If you're competitive, bring your A-game. If you're social, bring friends or meet new ones over multiplayer games.
Weekdays or early afternoons are usually less crowded — perfect for focused play. Evenings and weekends bring the buzz, especially at barcades or venues with DJs, tournaments, or themed nights.
Absolutely! Arcades attract a mix of casual players and serious gamers. Whether you're jumping into a four-player co-op or chatting between rounds, it's a fun, low-pressure way to connect over shared interests.
Not at all. While many arcades are family-friendly, there are also adult-oriented ones with full bars, 18+ nights, or vintage nostalgia themes. Arcades today cater to everyone — from first-timers to lifelong gamers.
Yes! Many arcades host regular competitions, retro nights, cosplay parties, and more. Whether you're into high scores or just want to watch and vibe, events add an extra layer to the experience.
No worries — arcades are about having fun, not being perfect. Try a variety of games, ask others for tips, and remember: the vibe is more “let’s play” than “let’s win.”
Arcade prize games are a thrilling highlight in 2025! Claw machines, skee-ball, and ticket-redemption games like basketball offer a rush of skill and chance, with rewards like plushies, toys, or electronics up for grabs. Modern machines feature vibrant lights, digital scoreboards, and responsive controls, amplifying the fun. The lively arcade atmosphere, with cheering crowds and buzzing energy, makes every win feel epic.
