It's a great place for hanging out and have a drink (or three) with friends while playing arcade games but not so much for a meal but they don't pretend to be a restaurant and that the food they offer is more as a convenience for bar customers. **we wished the Dive Bar shirts that are for sale said Hickory instead of their other location ??

Erica is amazing and always kind when we stop by, the atmosphere draws a younger crowd (I joke that it's Tinder in real life in here) but hickory needs a place like this! drinks are very reasonably priced

We recently held a private event for our office team. Everyone enjoyed the drinks, games, and atmosphere. The management made sure our group had the experience we were looking for. I recommend this venue as a fun work event for employees.

It's a basic drink bar... so no fancy cocktails and no wine. A good hangout for young'uns who want a stout drink and a game of pool. Good drinks, though. Excellent service. Nice atmosphere. 10/10 would recommend.

So I was looking for a more adult atmosphere. This is a college bar very fun lots of space to enjoy nice Atmosphere, but I'm nearly 50 and did not find or notice anyone close to my age so not giving a bad review but again if you want something more adult, this is not the place for you

Kat, Olivia, and Lexi all deserve a raise went in there last night they was very attentive anytime me or my husband walked up to the bar we was greeted by one of the three

I had an amazing experience at the bar thanks to Kat! She is an outstanding bartender who truly knows her craft. Not only did she mix fantastic drinks, but her friendly and engaging personality made the evening even more enjoyable. Kat's attention to detail and genuine care for her customers set her apart. I highly recommend visiting this bar and experiencing Kat's exceptional service. Cheers to Kat for making the night unforgettable! Wish she was single ??

Great spot for drinks with friends! We stopped by during their soft opening prior to their liquor license and finally had a chance to revisit! Pretty decent selection of drinks, great pool tables and this location does have TouchTunes so for a price you can listen to whatever you want while playing one of the many arcade games they have. Just beware, the games are not free and you can load cards with credits ( some similar locations I have been to in the south are free once you pay a entrance fee).

First time visit about 5pm Saturday. Slight crowd mainly with families. We love it! Great experience, phenomenal bartender - Kendall! We had lemon drops and High Noon sun sips. Wonderful time. We'll be back, definitely!

Such a fun place and our bartender, Olivia, was great!

Took the kids early for some snack food and arcade games. Kids are allowed in until 8 as long as they behave. Walking tacos were a hit! All new games, good beer selection, friendly staff, good music and atmosphere. Definitely worth a visit. Great addition to Hickory!

Had a blast this Halloween. I absolutely adore Erica. She's super patient with a newly 21 year old trying to figure out what they like. She's absolutely incredible and deserves all good things in this life. I had a really great time tonight and I appreciate the vibe from the bartenders.

Had a wonderful time tonight. Used it as a work bonding experience. Deff would recommend. And will be back.

We rented out the space for a private event and had a wonderful time. Our bartender, Erica, was amazing. It was a great experience from beginning to end and I appreciate both Kevin the GM and Erica for helping make our event seamless.

Kat was amazing. Always checking to see if we need anything. She is always smiling with great attitude. Love just going in mid day for beer and having a chat with her or some of other bartenders. Great atmosphere

Best bar I've been to. Super grateful for the tenders who found the most perfect drink for someone newly 21 who doesn't quite know what they want. 10/10 recommend for anyone looking for a small bar and a good time.

Awsome environment fun and great dive bar good danceing

We had a family sports social at The Dive Bar and Kevin was super accommodating in helping us plan. We had over 70 adults and kids and Reid took such great care of us! Both parents and the kids had a great time shooting pool, playing foosball, video arcade games, "duck" hunting and listening to the juke box! We will definitely be back! 10 out of 10!

Erika is amazing make sure you go when she is working. She is so friendly and can make a great drink. I recommend her to anyone love her so much she is one of my favorites.

He makes a good jack and coke and there's games for all ages.

It's a great place to go as a date or as a group of friends. My wife decided to have her birthday there with a group of friends and wouldn't take no for an answer. The bartenders are super nice and helpful, and they have some classic arcade games to enjoy while You're there, even an electronic darts! 10/10 would go again, and we will!

Erika is my favorite even though she beat me at basketball 10/10

I am visiting from out of town and love a good dive. This one has tons of game options and super friendly service. I did not rate food, simply because I did not eat anything. 10/10, highly recommend.

I was a loyal Dive Bar patron for a few months--after moving home from college, I was elated to see that Hickory finally had a good nightlife option. I recommended Dive Bar to all of my friends, and always mentioned how safe, affordable, and fun their business is. Tonight, a friend from college and I were excited to go to the Dive Bar--I hyped up the experience to her astronomically and assured her that it would be the best bar she'd ever been to (bonus points for the arcade games!). Sadly, upon entering,

Love the bartenders here. Especially Erika and Kat!!!! They are always so kind and know what I want. I love seeing them behind the bar. They absolutely brighten my day everytime I see them

We just stopped in for a drink and wound up playing some billiards and some air hockey! Was a lot of fun! Many fun things to do! Bar tender was a nice guy who knew his craft and did it well!

I had the absolute pleasure of visiting Dive Bar Hickory recently, and I am thrilled to share my exceptional experience. This establishment, under the incredible management of Kevin and the ownership of Rob, truly stands out for its remarkable professionalism, customer-centric approach, and unwavering commitment to excellence. From the moment I stepped through the doors, I was welcomed into an inviting and vibrant environment that immediately set the tone for a fantastic time. The ambiance at Dive Bar Hick

Food was lackluster, and when i mean lackluster i mean imagine using a toaster oven to cook a red baron frozen pizza or frozen mozzarella sticks. It's the bare minimum that you would call bar food. Even the BARTENDER suggested against eating there. Drinks were alright at best. Priced well. Can't complain about the pricing of the drinks. Bartenders were in their own world talking to eachother, wouldn't say very receptive to the people there. Honestly won't go back unless I'm with friends. They had games. It

Only a handful of snack/microwave items but good tasting. Went here to watch college football. Great vibe and even better scenery. Certainly a go to place in Hickory. Staff was friendly and struck conversations easily with multiple patrons. Pretty cool spot for a group or date night

If you are competitive and light video games you will enjoy this place

Nice place but "personally" I would love it if they could play more rock and of course different type of music (the same time for each one)

I love hanging at Dive Bar Hickory with friends! Cheap beers and bites which is always great when you just want a chill night out. The games are super fun also, love they just use a card for credits so you don't have to take cash out. It's just a dope place for a chill bar night out!!

My husband and I enjoyed the dive bar. The games provided are fun and I loved the little picture machine :) we played darts and beer pong. The staff was great. Will go again & highly recommend!

I love going to dive bar. The bouncers, bartenders, and even the help that walks around and politely asks to take any empty cups your group may have. Everyone there is so professional and makes sure that you have good service, no matter how busy it is. I highly recommend going here to anyone that asks, over any of the other bars in the area!

High priced drinks and beer. Place is more oriented to playing video games and other stuff. Children and soccer moms frequent until after dinner hours to play the games.

So great to have a fun time with adults and kids during the day and a great time for just adults at night. Lots of drink specials, lots of games and a good atmosphere.

Had a great experience with most of the staff the only negative thing I would say is the bartender with red hair and bangs was beyond rude over simply asking why my card was charged 3 different times but the manager solved my card problem and was nice. Other bartenders were great as well!

Very sweet and affordable great for birthdays

We planned to buy dinner but they had free BBQ outside! Turns out it was their one-year anniversary! They had karaoke, and arcade games. Seemed like a cool place to hang out!

Enjoyed our time here on a chill Saturday afternoon! At one point the Wi-Fi was acting up and we weren't able to scan our cards to get more game credits, and the draft system was acting up. Otherwise, the good far outweighed the bad. Plenty of variety that went well beyond just your standard "stand up and play" games. Everything from pool to darts to sker ball and even a beer pong style game was here, among many other things. It encourages a lot of group participation and I think would be excellent for an

The games are fun but the bar tenders are some of the rudest and intentionally slow that I've encountered anywhere. Send the college kids packing and hire some real adults that have respect for patrons.

Fun place to stop in after pizza!

Great selection of drinks and food, lots of stuff to do for groups of friends. Friendly people.

Erika is sooo great! Love her! Always attentive and makes sure my drink stays full !!!

Had a blast with my girlfriend here playing arcade and winning some prizes. Definitely a cool place to hang out !

This place is a fight club at night. They actually fist fight inside the bar with very little security. People are getting jumped and assaulted on the way out. I know people who have gotten concussions and broken bones. This place my be ok during the day but stay away at night. Its only a matter of time before someone gets seriously injured. The management and police know but are doing nothing.

Old school ?dive bar ? feel. Fun, friendly atmosphere! Money spent was mostly on video games and air hockey.

This bar doesn't protect women at all

My fianc? and I went over the weekend and had the best time playing games. The space is huge, clean and the staff were all very friendly! We are excited to go back!

This was fun to take the kids to hang out. I can't comment on food or drinks because we didn't get anything but the staff was extremely helpful and asked us if we needed anything.

Best little "dive" bar I've been to in years. Had a great time.

Sick spot to chill out with friends. I think the games are a tad expensive, but otherwise service was phenomenal, and the games I did play were fun!

Enjoyed hanging out at Dive Bar!! Very nice place. Staff were friendly and helpful. Good vibes all around. Will definitely visit again!!

Great variety of arcade games, dart boards, pool tables and even beer pong. Best dive I've ever been to.

Beer is too expensive and they cut off our air hockey game mid game.

Girl that was there was very nice behind the bar, would have been a five if the pinball machine work properly. I thought they were going to be a lot more pinball machines here but oh well.

My favorite place in town to come hang out and have a drink. Plenty of games, pool tables and darts. Staff is also super friendly.

The most unprofessional place around hands down. Good luck

It is a dive, in a great way. Mission accomplished.

Really chill place to bring the kids to play arcade games and shoot pool. Love the atmosphere!

The dive bar bouncers make sure patrons are safe by not allowing patrons to bring in pocket knives.

Great time and energy, a couple of the games were a little janky but overall a solid time.

Had a great time! Kids welcome until 8! Reasonably priced games and drinks.

Nice weekend hangout spot. good atmosphere, fun, and poular arcade bar.

Erika is the best!! Such a pleasant first visit!! Will be coming back to see this amazing queen!!

Great place to have a drink and play some arcade games!

It looks like one of the pinball games has been replaced with something different since my last visit. Please keep The Munsters.

Kat! The bartender is amazing!!!! Hands down the best experience being here!

Grate place the owners are supper down to earth, always a grate atmosphere to hang out with friends and family.

Great drinks. Fun games. Reasonably priced.

Didn't eat there. The atmosphere is great and prices reasonable

10 out of 10 taylor did a great job

Are these guys hiring experienced high volume bartenders? I moved out from Denver CO. This reminds me of a Denver Bar!!

Opened too late...but not bad.

It reminds me of the arcade growing up but not too many games. Has a menu of bar drinks and food.

It's the best place to be in hickory it's amazing especially on the weekends at the karokie

Kat is a wonderful bartender! Props to her.

Nice people, fun environment, good time!

Frequently Asked Questions

What’s it like visiting an arcade today?

It’s a mix of nostalgia and high-energy fun! Many arcades blend retro classics like Pac-Man and pinball with modern VR games, racing simulators, and rhythm challenges — often with music, lights, and a social vibe.

Is it better to go alone or with friends?

Both can be great! Solo visits let you focus on your favorite games, while going with friends adds competition, teamwork, and laughs. Many people plan arcade meetups as a casual hangout or even date spot.

What should I bring to an arcade?

Usually just yourself and a way to pay (some arcades still use coins, others use cards or apps). If you're competitive, bring your A-game. If you're social, bring friends or meet new ones over multiplayer games.

What’s the best time to visit an arcade?

Weekdays or early afternoons are usually less crowded — perfect for focused play. Evenings and weekends bring the buzz, especially at barcades or venues with DJs, tournaments, or themed nights.

Can I meet new people at arcades?

Absolutely! Arcades attract a mix of casual players and serious gamers. Whether you're jumping into a four-player co-op or chatting between rounds, it's a fun, low-pressure way to connect over shared interests.

Are arcades still just for kids?

Not at all. While many arcades are family-friendly, there are also adult-oriented ones with full bars, 18+ nights, or vintage nostalgia themes. Arcades today cater to everyone — from first-timers to lifelong gamers.

Are there events or tournaments I can join?

Yes! Many arcades host regular competitions, retro nights, cosplay parties, and more. Whether you're into high scores or just want to watch and vibe, events add an extra layer to the experience.

What if I’m not great at arcade games?

No worries — arcades are about having fun, not being perfect. Try a variety of games, ask others for tips, and remember: the vibe is more “let’s play” than “let’s win.”

Are pinball tables still good in this modern age?

Yes, pinball tables in arcades remain a blast. Their hands-on, skill-driven gameplay delivers a thrill digital games can’t match, blending nostalgia with modern flair. Newer tables from Stern and Jersey Jack feature LCD screens and themes like Avengers or Stranger Things, keeping things exciting. Arcades are seeing a pinball resurgence with vibrant scenes and tournaments like IFPA events drawing crowds. Though less common than video games, pinball’s tactile charm and community vibe make it a standout arcade experience in 2025.

Are retro games in arcades still good in this modern age?

Absolutely, retro games in arcades remain a thrilling draw in 2025! Classics like Pac-Man, Space Invaders, and Street Fighter II offer simple yet addictive gameplay, blending nostalgia with timeless challenge. Modern arcade cabinets often feature crisp displays and restored controls, enhancing the experience. These games thrive on quick reflexes and strategy, with vibrant pixel art and iconic soundtracks that spark joy. Arcades host tournaments and leaderboards, fostering a lively community. While modern games dominate, retro titles provide a unique, accessible thrill that keeps arcades buzzing.

Are pool tables in arcades still good in this modern age?

Yes, pool tables in arcades remain a fantastic draw in 2025! Games like 8-ball or 9-ball offer tactile, skill-based fun that blends strategy and precision. Modern tables feature smooth felt, responsive cues, and vibrant designs, enhancing the classic experience. Arcades foster a social vibe with casual matches or competitive tournaments, appealing to all skill levels. Unlike digital games, pool’s physicality—lining up shots, feeling the cue’s weight—keeps it timeless.
