D Pad Games in New Braunfels is an absolute gem for gamers of all ages, boasting an impressive selection of games spanning every generation and genre you can imagine. Whether you're hunting for that elusive childhood classic or looking to expand your retro game collection, they've got you covered. The atmosphere is lively and welcoming, making it the perfect spot to hang out with friends or meet fellow enthusiasts during their exciting events, like trading card game pre-releases. Plus, after scoring some no
Atmosphere: 5/5 Inventory: 4/5 Service: 1/5!!! I really hate leaving poor reviews, but I just felt like I had to get this off my chest. I'm not really super into video games, but roughly over the course of 6 visits or so I have brought in games to sell for cash. I've been helped by a combination of 4 or so different gentlemen through those times. 3/4 of those guys were super friendly nice and I really appreciated them helping me out. I even brought in a console to get it tested because I didn't have the po
These guys have been consistently friendly and helpful. They have an excellent selection of games from retro to more current video games and consoles as well as a large selection of trading cards, models and paint. Eric and Oscar especially have a wealth of knowledge with respect to all things game related and I feel confident that if I have a question they will do their best to have or find an answer.
I live in Seguin so it's a bit of a trek to D-pad but still probably the closest one worth a dang to me. Tony the owner is such a cool guy. Love his attitude, personality, and how he runs the store. As a strictly limited player of magic the gathering it is the place to go for that. Only negative is I wish I could do it more ??
This place was the thing that made me love New Bruanfels even more! They have a wide variety of games from all consoles! Plus the prices were really good compared to my home town.
I went here the other day and was breathing in the nostalgia and just admiring everything when I caught one of the workers eyeballing me like I was trying to steal or something. It kinda made me feel uncomfortable. I just like games, and since there's not many stores like this around, I just enjoy even being at 1. I don't want there to be a reason not to go.
Definitely a neat little place for everything video game related. I'd of loved to take a super Nintendo home. Maybe next time. I was for sure amazed by the Gundam model selection. Huge variety compared to most the other shops I've been to. Had lots of mtg commander pre cons.
Absolutely amazing collection of games, systems, accessories, and nostalgia... I really wish I was rich. I've been gaming since the 80's so it truly hurts my heart to see what I am missing out on daily by not having any of this amazingness anymore. Prices were pretty competitive and most are better than GameStop. This will be my new obsession as I get every game I ever desired to have... only issue is that time is working against me!
I went on vacation to SA and I had multiple people to me to come to New Braunfels to check out this game store and let me tell you they were right. Not only they had an amazing selection but the staff were one of the nicest people I've ever met I had one employee talk to me about gears of war and we were talking for a good minute just about playing multiplayer Would highly recommend coming to this store and definitely will check it out when I'm town again for sure :)
I'm from out of town, but am in the area often enough to be a somewhat regular customer. I always make sure to stop in before heading back home to the Rio Grande Valley. I've never had a bad experience. The staff are friendly and they have a 30 Day Return policy for faulty merchandise that I've never had to use. The Intellivision I bought works perfectly! I'm almost positive I've bought out a good majority of their Atari games lol. I cannot recommend D Pad enough.
Every time we go, there is something new! The staff are always nice and knowledgeable. They have a wide variety of video and board games, consoles, and toys. They also have a little arcade with old school games. There are DND, Pok?mon and other game nights.
I went here with my son to prerelease the latest magic the gathering set and had a blast! The event runner, who was also the store owner, Tony did an amazing job. Will definitely be coming back for more If I could give six stars i would ??
I went in to DPAD because I did not want to spend my money at Game Stop and I stood around for 20 minutes made eye contact with a couple employees and no one offered any kind of help or assistance in any way??. I am very disappointed in this local business not she if they had a game going on in the other room but I was shocked at how no one anted to help me I was ready to spend some $$?. Oh well there loss I guess I have to go to Game Stop?.
I did a very large trade in from some of my personal collection. The offer they gave me for both cash and store credit was incredibly generous. Their prices were also extremely fair. The customer service I received both in store and at classic game fest in Austin was top notch. The store had a much more impressive selection of games than anywhere in San Antonio. I will 100% be back to support this local game store.
Good local game shop 3 time better than game stop that for sure
AWESOME store! Played in the MtG pre-release last weekend and everyone was great! Everyone from the staff was great and very helpful. The store owner ran the events and was every bit as outstanding as well. The players were all very friendly even to a complete stranger. You truly could not ask for more, and I hope to go again come next pre-release ??
Amazing store super nostalgic, and great staff. I had the same feelings walking into d pad that I had as a kid walking into my favorite local video store on the hunt for my favorite games! Awesome atmosphere and really cool arcade. I also found this super awesome Nintendo carrying case for such an awesome deal!!
Tony is fantastic. He runs a great store, and nice folks play there.
I'd whole-heartedly recommend any retro game enthusiast stop by D-Pad. They've struck the perfect balance of having an amazing inventory along with decent prices, something you don't see a lot of. One of the best game selections I've seen from a vintage game store in a long time. From Intellivision and Atari to PS4 and Switch, consoles, handhelds, loose games, complete-in-box games, ect. They even had a huge Dreamcast selection! On top of that, almost everything is packaged in a protective plastic sleeve,
Some of the more popular selections may be out stock due to the increase demand for nostalgia given the times. Their websites cool, use it.
A great little shop full of different hobbies. Quite the gundam collection, which we weren't expecting to find on vacation in NB. Had to pick up some merch when we heard they use local artists. Great designs and quality!
Had the pleasure of visiting this store amongst others in the Austin area while on vacation. Was very impressed with their selection of CIB SNES and Genesis games. Fair pricing on everything in the store as well. Can't wait to visit again!
This place always has cool things and they are always so helpful. Their game and hobby nights are always fun.
D-Pad more like Dbag... they pay you the bottom dollar for your trade ins. And charge top dollar to the point that you can find games brand new at department stores for cheaper than Dpads used ones.
Great place with an awesome selection; had some parts & games I was searching for
So, first-time buying a console for our oldest boy. The guys working here are nice ,friendly, and helpful. Really recommend this place. Had problems with a remote we got, and they switched it out and didn't give me a hard time. Really made it easy.
I'm from the valley and this was my go to store, wasting time looking around and playing the arcade games eventually one of the guys would come and whoop me, but THE GO TO STORE WHEN IN TOWN. I'll be there soon ??
Everyone of the workers are very knowledgeable and one -Paul- went a step ahead to let me know the full process of when they get new games in and how long it takes to get put up on the shelf, they have just about everything your looking for in any game system. Outstanding customer service and already started telling everyone that played with me about this Great store, hope you guys get even bigger in time >>Got 60% of my collection I used to have in Middle School, having the time of my life haha!
Ny favorite spot to game and gaming needs. Awesome service as always. Laid back. It's D Pad's y'all
Went here because I was looking into modding a GameCube and I needed the later release model. $169.99 for the GameCube I'm realizing now was an outrageous price,. especially for when GameCubes are going for sub ~$100 on certain markets. Also $70 for a copy of Super Smash Bros. Melee is a lot when I could just emulate it for free. Wanted the games for my collection but I realize now I could have went somewhere else with people who are not going to use eBay as their source of pricing.
Place is a mixed bag. Was told an almost brand new disc was too scratched, but was told the offer would have been pretty close to a decent storefront offer. I almost bought a game just to see if he's true to his 100% brand new standard, but considering the condescending attitude about discs with barely a spec on it, I'll just keep paying less through Mercari. Browsing the 4-9 gen games, nothing rare enough to have made a purchase against my better judgement worth adding to the collection.
Great selection of rare and common games for pretty much every system. Nice staff. Prices a little too high compared to what the games are worth so I did not buy anything.
The staff was very friendly and helpful. My husband sent me to get a Wii game for our son, and they had quite the collection of games. Fun music was also playing in the background.
6/23/24: Seriously can't support a local game store unwilling to work with its customers. I was looking to purchase 2 guides and 3 games. All of which were significantly over Price Charting market prices. Rather than having a slightly less profit margin on 5 items totalling approximately $200, they now have $0 instead and lost a customer.
First time going to this store and it was absolutely incredible, the organization, selections, and prices. This is definitely a top tier retro gaming store!
Great place, friendly and have so much cool stuff!
I had such a great time in this store. They have a lot. Like every console that has existed. Retro and new school. The staff are knowledgeable and the prices are reasonable. There's a few overpriced things, but idc. Still a sweet store. They even have a back room for gaming. I assume it's for the staff or friends. But I watched for a little and I thought it was cool. I was here on vacation and instead of going to GameStop, I decided to check out a local game shop.
Been here several times, and it's was an extremely positive experience every time. The prices are fair, great warranty of their used games, and excellent staff. I've seriously been impressed! I will gladly come here before I consider buying from an unknown/shady online seller.
This place has nostalgia written all over it, it's like being a kid in the candy store! I am a new loyal customer to D Pad. Eric was very helpful both times I shopped there and just the group of people that run the shop in general make the experience of game shopping feel like it's supposed to. I am 28 years old and I have a 3 year old son that I get the chance to relive my childhood with now. Now that he has a Gameboy Advance and the same games I played as a kid, I don't have to just tell him about how gam
I just left your store. (12/26/23 6:45pm) I am from out of town. I made a detour to visit your shop. I found many collector editions for the switch I was ready to buy. (Blasphemous, Dusk Diver, The last Story Wii) but nobody in the shop even acknowledge my presence. I like physical games and I like buying them from small business game stores but you got to talk to your customers.
The D-Pad is by far the best video game and accessory stores I've ever been in! Tops old school Hastings, beats out game stop on the regular. I won't go anywhere but here for my special orders and classic games! And the staff is beyond amazing, those guys are on another level..... lol
I've been goin to this place for about a year now. I highly recommend it to anybody they have the best deals. Employees are super nice and very helpful. And they have a wide array of videogames.
Love love love this place, but they love to rip off and lie. Said that their gacha tokens were less than GameStops but they're the same price($4) and then said that they're ?high dollar game? (SH4) comes without the manual and it's still 120$ but I got my copy WITH the original manual on Ebay for $60.
This place literally has it all, they even allow you to play card tournaments should you desire in a back room. They have arcade games you can play and have games for every system that I know, very friendly and welcoming service. Drove 40 minutes for a single game and wasn't disappointed. Highly recommend for both current and vintage/retro gamers.
I am a regular here and I always look forward to my weekly visits. The staff is tight and focused. It's very easy to strike up conversation with them over any game title. They are very accommodating for collectors and people like me looking for hidden gems. Unlike Game Over in SA, they allow you to purchase freshly traded in games on sight. This makes it very fun for me because I like to cherry pick through new game stacks. They also have a great selection of arcade cabinets and a free room to use for table
This is a very very good game store. Very well stocked in All game consoles and games. Expertise of employees is above and beyond any other I've run across. We both traded in and cashed out on some of our consoles and games. Very satisfied with both transactions. Note, it's because of their expertise that they can evaluate your consoles and games both technically and market wise and give you an appropriate $appraisal and valuation. No other store, especially the Game Stops that can do this. Game Stop and ot
Cool environment, nice staff, play space, and reasonable LGS prices. Support local every chance you get
A great option if you want to support local businesses. They even host classes and have a game room.
Best vintage gaming store I've ever been too. I love coming here. The workers are kind, and very helpful. And you can tell they truly care for gaming. They replace every battery I'm every cartridge or gameboy game that requires save. They sell their games for a fair price, and never rip you off. And they have most all the games you'll be looking for, and more. Its a great store, and I hope it never goes out of business. Because I'll buy old school games from here over other places any day
The staff here are great! They hooked me up with the perfect PS1 for my collection. Really brought me back to the days my brother would pretend to plug a controller in when my mom would demand he let me play too. Ah sweet memories, I eventually caught on... can't wait to go back and see what other gems ?? they have!
I had rated D Pad 5 stars but I rerated them due to the not so amazing service I've gotten the last 2 times I've been there. And they don't give fair prices when you take games and/or movies in. I took about 14 games in and got $10.50 in store credit. What??? But I have to say they are the best place to find video games for all kinds of systems as well as controllers, cords, etc. Most of the employees are pretty knowledgeable too. I'll definitely keep going but I sure hope the service gets better!
A great place for gamers in general, and an absolute must visit for retro gamers especially. They carry games and accessories for everything from the Atari 2600 to the current console generation. Everything is used, but it is all tested and they have a very generous 30 day guarantee on everything they sell. I have had to return a few things in the 8 years or so that I have done business with them, and they have always stood behind their guarantee. The store has undergone major renovations in the last couple
I went in to purchase a call of duty game for my ps4. They had only one, advanced warfare on the shelf, when I went to purchase the game they couldn't find it.
The absolute best place for all of your gaming needs. The staff is very knowledgeable, and friendly. Their prices are very competitive (so much cheaper than Game Stop). The selection is pretty good. My kids love this place, and so do I.
It's a cool place to look at. They have a large assortment of old games and game systems, although the prices are high. It's near a little Cesar's which makes it good to check out while waiting. They also have a room of old arcade games if you wanna relive the old days, you'll just have to ask them to turn the machines on and bring some quarters. Once a week they hold a magic the gathering tournament and from time to time they hold super smash Bros tournaments.
Legit the best retro gaming store hands down their prices are unbeat always fair and customers service is always on point!! I have a great experience everytime I'm in there I highly recommend this store to all my fellow gamers out there!! Don't overpay for games you love at other stores. D Pad is here to save the day!! ??
I've been a loyal customer for years now, but last month I bought a product advertised as new that was defective. I got a replacement but come to find out the product itself is just defective. I spent 40$ on a remote and both of them didn't work. I love local and have always felt happy in there, but this was an unfortunate experience for me. Barely even acknowledged me because my second receipt was expired.
Bought 2 packs of twilight masquerade and the friendly employee hooked me up with a banger pack that had a really nice pinsir insert.
Great Retro Games store, They have a very wide selection of both Games and Game Consoles ranging from the early 80s to modern day. They have a arcade and frequently host events. The Staff are very friendly and helpful. Overall one of the best Retro Game Stores in the Greater San Antonio Area.
Very good classic video game store located in New Braunfels. I made the 30minute trip, from San Antonio, to purchase a game that i couldn't find anywhere else. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable, helping me locate exactly what I was looking for. Add to that a pretty vast inventory, and you've got a winning combination. 100% recommend to anyone with even a slight love for gaming.
Went during black Friday sale where the whole store was 25% off. The guy with rainbow hair rang it up and charged me full price. I told him he didn't give the discount and he apologized and tried to fix it by putting it back on the card. It was taking a really long time. I asked if it would be faster to get cash instead of getting it on card. Another guy behind him said no we just have to figure it out. In the end the cashier gave me cash instead of putting it on the card. But as he was trying to put the mo
These guys are so patient. I have been there 3 times.for different things . But they are all amazing and honest. They do their best to help folks.. Gotta love them.
So awesome! My husband and I acquired an OG Xbox but needed another controller. We were happy with the guys over the phone service and late hours. It was convenient and the prices were excellent. He told us since we were coming from SA he would have waited a little later if we didn't make it in time. Highly recommend this place!
It has tons of stuff for the retro gamer. From hard to find games, controllers and more, however I went there for magic the gathering and I found it hard to find any cards because everything was organized by rare or not rare. Otherwise it was a great place to get all your retro gaming needs and they earned my business for that.
Very knowledgeable staff and awesome selection. They helped me determine that my N64 was done for, but we're quick to find a solution. I didn't want to lose my blue N64, so I purchased a gray one and they placed my blue shell over it.
Was doing some work out of town and decided to stop by this place. I looked around and found this Teddiursa plush I liked, so I bought it and kept the receipt in my hand. Before I left, I noticed the wall of DS games. I went to check and saw there was a copy of The World Ends With You. I have been looking for that game and asked a different person if they can get it for me. They got it for me and then asked "was there anything else". I looked a bit confused but said no that's it. Then he said "did you pay f
I am a lover of retro video games... I emulate tons of retro video game consoles... It's fun but emulation is nothing compared to the real thing. This place was awesome and has quite a collection. If Money was No object I could spend my entire paycheck here... J/S...
Cool store, gonna have to check it out more to know what's what but overall pleasant experience. I think they've been in business for quite some time.
This is a cool little Gem, has a lot of variety of games for multiple consoles, trading cards and it seemed like they have tables set up for games which is always pretty dope!! The location is a little tight but very easily located!
what happened? you know its bad when Gamestop is constantly beating your trade in prices lately(and im talking about 5-10 bucks more) . Still a cool store , but not sure if they got greedy. Ill still be back but truly disappointed. The item in question was new super mario bro for the ds. Dpad store credit$6.. gamestop store credit $13. I do have to admit it was one of your new guys working the till. I have been a customer since 2010 and i just recently started noticing this in the last few months. I a
Locally owned gaming shop - the employees are friendly and helpful. They have a great selection of games and movies at competitive prices. There is a gaming room in the back - good area for card gaming and D&D.
Love this place I travel 1 hour away just to come here every now and then. I always leave with something to play. Great prices from classic to modern games. Even if they dont have the game u are looking for they will make sure they put it aside when they come in. Great atmosphere and good Texas people there.
Best place to shop for all your gaming needs, the staff is super welcoming and nice and will help you with any questions or concerns. The prices are fair and reasonable for all products retro or not. Definitely come to dpad for any of your gaming needs. (I dont usually post reviews but Dpad def deserves this 5 star review, theyre amazing)
D Pad is great! We collect vintage games and systems and they are always do kind and friendly. We could easily (and have) drop 400 dollars. But it will all be top quality!
nice people. very approachable staff. honest about videogames and make great recommendations while not trying to oversell you on anything. they dont always have what you want in stock but its a used game store. prices are definitely fair.
Ive been buying at the d pad for many years and they are excellent! Great customer service, knowledgeable staff, and down to earth people. They have a great selection for a small store. They have two rooms, one room for games to buy, and an arcade room as the second room. All in all excellent store and excellent selection!
Great place for retro and new games and accessories. Team is always helpful. Nice gem from the box stores
I go to this place all the time. The guys there are cool, the arcade and table in the back is nice, and there is a great selection of retro gaming items all sold for a fair price. Highly recommend checking it out!!!
Hands down the best Retro store in the Austin/San Antonio area. So many gems and the crew is really nice and helpful!
How have I never rated y'all? I've been in a bit with every kind of "era" but I'm so thrilled they now carry models and minis, and the owner is all in on DnD now, it's a great little place for our little town.
Classic arcade games that you can actually touch and hold (and smell). Hold onto your pants cause its a blast into the past, retro just got real. Everything from cartridges to the most newest can be found here. I happen to get my hands on two well taken care of two game walkthrough books. Need to get your fix here.
D Pad now stocks tabletop games and minis!!! Army Painter paints and a huge selection of their spray primers! Colors I haven't seen in stock anywhere else. What an awesome surprise. Not just video games anymore go to D Pad for your tabletop needs too!
I've been going to the D-Pad for five years now and these guys run the best business for video games. The owners run the store everyday. I have had pretty bad experiences at other game stores but these guys are the real deal. They worked with me on my trades and definitely gave me a great value for games I wanted to buy from them. I will always take my business to the D-Pad because they are always willing to make the customer happy. If you're a collector or just curious about retro video games, you HAVE to
This place is awesome. My friends and I always come here to have a great time and we are always met with one. All of the employees have been super nice and caring for our experience.
This place has a few classic arcade consoles you can play, but I oils never call it an arcade. What I would call it? A really cool place to visit if you like old console games. They have new ones, too. But classic consoles, like SEGA CD? YUP.
Always have a great selection. Some games at a good value. Some games the same value at standard retail stores. Wish the room where the arcade games are, had all the arcade games working. Would probably come back more often if all the arcade games worked.
Yes. This place is the model for a gaming store. Local. Sharp. Clean. Respectful and engaged staff. Kudos. Always very friendly to my large family. Good management.
It’s a mix of nostalgia and high-energy fun! Many arcades blend retro classics like Pac-Man and pinball with modern VR games, racing simulators, and rhythm challenges — often with music, lights, and a social vibe.
Both can be great! Solo visits let you focus on your favorite games, while going with friends adds competition, teamwork, and laughs. Many people plan arcade meetups as a casual hangout or even date spot.
Usually just yourself and a way to pay (some arcades still use coins, others use cards or apps). If you're competitive, bring your A-game. If you're social, bring friends or meet new ones over multiplayer games.
Weekdays or early afternoons are usually less crowded — perfect for focused play. Evenings and weekends bring the buzz, especially at barcades or venues with DJs, tournaments, or themed nights.
Absolutely! Arcades attract a mix of casual players and serious gamers. Whether you're jumping into a four-player co-op or chatting between rounds, it's a fun, low-pressure way to connect over shared interests.
Not at all. While many arcades are family-friendly, there are also adult-oriented ones with full bars, 18+ nights, or vintage nostalgia themes. Arcades today cater to everyone — from first-timers to lifelong gamers.
Yes! Many arcades host regular competitions, retro nights, cosplay parties, and more. Whether you're into high scores or just want to watch and vibe, events add an extra layer to the experience.
No worries — arcades are about having fun, not being perfect. Try a variety of games, ask others for tips, and remember: the vibe is more “let’s play” than “let’s win.”
Absolutely, retro games in arcades remain a thrilling draw in 2025! Classics like Pac-Man, Space Invaders, and Street Fighter II offer simple yet addictive gameplay, blending nostalgia with timeless challenge. Modern arcade cabinets often feature crisp displays and restored controls, enhancing the experience. These games thrive on quick reflexes and strategy, with vibrant pixel art and iconic soundtracks that spark joy. Arcades host tournaments and leaderboards, fostering a lively community. While modern games dominate, retro titles provide a unique, accessible thrill that keeps arcades buzzing.
