Cool Crest Family Fun Center

Cool Crest Family Fun Center

Reviews Summary

Cool Crest remains a nostalgic, family-friendly destination with strong sentimental value, particularly for long-time visitors. While many praise its classic charm, reasonable prices, and friendly staff, numerous reviews highlight significant maintenance issues—broken games, outdated courses, and non-functional equipment. The mini-golf courses are fun but often in disrepair, with some obstacles not working. Arcade games are hit-or-miss, with many malfunctioning. Despite its aging state, families still enjoy the experience, though some feel it's overpriced for the condition. Recent efforts at repairs are noted, but overall, the place needs substantial updates to match its potential.

Customer Reviews

The 7-year-old birthday party crowd really enjoyed Cool Crest, and the staff went above and beyond to make sure the adults were comfortable as well.

I'm sad to leave this review as I loved coming here as a child and was excited to finally be able to bring my child who is now old enough to play miniature golf. The cashier was kind enough to let my 6 year old have a free game as it was her birthday and we chose the kings area because it was the most shaded but was sad to see what condition it was in when we started playing. What used to be a course with animatronic moving characters is now nothing more than aged green turf that is ripped and causing creas

Great time for kids. Prices are very reasonable. I came here as a kid and not much has been updated but who cares?! Fun arcade games to keep kids and adults entertained. We got pizza for cheap and the only thing I wish is that it had been warm enough for mini golf!

We actually had a Blast!! I have been in Kansas City for years and just never ever been there but I'm so glad we went. We absolutely had a blast?? so much to do the staff is amazing?? so helpful and just overall fun. We totally needed this. I highly recommend it. Thanks guys you did amazing. I'm looking forward to all the upgrades coming this summer, keep up the great work. See you next time.

Had our daughters birthday party here. Loved every second! Is it older, sure. But every single worker was friendly, the party was very good value, and it kept them all entertained!

This business has been around forever, but, it's lost it's luster over the years! From the exterior to the mini golf ?? holes ?? you'll see for yourself! I tried to take numerous photos ?? so you can see the condition of the course! There's several courses to choose from and we choose the upper course with some shade ??! The kids ate and played video games for a little while and had a wonderful time! After playing on the course for quite some time, then returning back to the main building there appeared

This is a fun place for the entire family. We love playing miniture golf on their delightful courses. Plus, there's a video arcade, go-karts, and batting cages. You can take a break from activities and enjoy a pizza and a coke in their restaurant.

Took my kids and they had a blast! Manager was great! Well worth the drive and money :)

The golf was great. However, it took them over a hour for them to get our food cooked. We were the only ones in line. When it finally did come out it was all cold. All we ordered were 2 hot dogs, chilli cheese dog, cheese fries, and chilli cheese fries. We ended up playing in the arcade to pass time. Half the games were out of order. (Arcade pics are shut down games)

a pretty standard Cool Crest style course. athey have 4 courses, but one, the knight was unavailable when we played. We did the Queen and the King courses. There are a lot of similar holes between the different courses, but also several that are different. The overall play on the courses was fun, It looked like they had replaced the greens fairly recently, so the balls rolled well, but some of the greens won't replaced well, and several had wrinkles that can effect play. Many moving elements, such as

If you're looking for something to do this summer when the kids come to Cool Crest Stephanie and the rest of the crew will take really good care of you Fridays they have a great deal customer service was fantastic like I said Stephanie was a rockstar

My family comes here as a family outing quite often. We love the atmosphere. Cool Crest was going down hill for awhile, but when I came this time, they had started repairing the buildings and the place is looking much better overall. I really enjoyed the package we bought. 4 golf courses per person and we didn't have to use them all that day. The prices are fantastic. Thanks for a great family event.

Our family has enjoyed Cool Crest for decades. We wish they would invest some money to update the putt putt courses, but the kids still have fun.

Edit: A ton of people have viewed my images and need to make a clear point. This place is fun, and we will likely be back in a year+ in hopes of some clean up being accomplished. We would be back more frequently, especially for golfing, if some general clean up is done. A few hours a weekend of the owners time could easily remedy many of the short comings. 3/5 Price : Value (summary) We had a blast at a really reasonable price, there were just a few things, mostly with the golf course that we kind of expe

Had so much fun with the mini golf ?? although it was really hot outside. The staffs were also friendly and helpful. It's a fun place to go with the kiddos, they have some arcade games and all kind things you can try out. Enjoy

Took me back to my childhood??! They still have coins and tickets. The prices are reasonable, but there were a few cons. The night we went (for my sons b-day) was not crowed, so that was great, but a few games didn't work and there was only one ticket counting machine working, the kitchen was not open and the carpet smelled. The attendants did replace lost coins, but we had to play then leave to get food. Overall, it was fun and we'll visit again!

Cool Crest has plenty of things to do for all ages. But what I was surprised by was the staff on a busy Saturday night that was available and helpful to me and everyone I saw. I have met others recently, who have said the same thing and so I am sharing this information with you that you'll have a good experience here. My testimony: Stephanie greeted me at The counter patiently to help me with my five year-old first time miniature golf. She was able to give me options and accommodate me which helped immense

I grew up in this magical place. Its not anymore. Can you get a hold of me. All pay out my own pocket where all the lights work. Its so dark all paint out my own pocket all fix the most awsome mechanical shit you took away its nothing to fix this park I dont understand it mecahnical paints lights waters falls i can fix it all bring back the magic and the memories we had as kids here i dont get it Its not even hard to make this place magical again. If i was rich enough id bring this place back to life but i

This place has had its ups and downs over the years and it's taking another nose dive right now. We had our granddaughters 10th birthday today and there was several cockroaches in the birthday area we paid for, there's also a huge part of the wall falling apart in the food area. I don't know how the place hasnt caved in or shut down. Terrible upper management for sure. THE STAFF IS NOT TO BLAME! THEY ARE THE BEACON OF HOPE IN THIS PLACE! By far the best part is the staff running the counter, it's sad that

Went there with my friends and it was good. Some of the games don't work but it was still enjoyable. Ita a good place to go if you wanna do something with your friends or if you have kids. Price is reasonable too.

Decent enough place to take kids for a few hours away from screen time. Love some of the package options, especially the current Groupon which is 3 attractions for 2 people for 25. Worked out great for my 12yo and a buddy. Got a round of putt putt and two spins on the go carts each. I'm not a fan of video games, so we didn't spend any time there. The place is worn, but honestly what kids place isn't? Honestly, I swear it's gotten more open and less congested in recent years. Four different courses, batting

We brought our three grandkids to this fun place yesterday. They had a great time especially riding the Go Karts. We also did the mini golf and played in the arcade. There is no entrance fees, one just pays for the different games. A couple of the games in the arcade didn't work well but that didn't spoil the fun. The staff was very helpful and all in all we had a great experience. Will be back again!

Love it here i literally spent 25 dollars and we got 1 large pizza 4 drinks and 100 coins to play with! You can't beat that deal! It's such a laid back place and not packed!

This place is the same as is was years ago. I had a blast with my daughter and husband. They need to update some of the statues and paint some things but it didn't affect the game play. Some spots were rippled on green making it hard to put.

Great fun time with the adult kids. Enjoyed how the greens are unique and not commercialized. Played 2 rounds and the hardest one was the dragon. Also played air hockey, skee ball and basketball in the arcade. Feels very old school but in a good way.

My son and I went for one on one time. He loved it and it's just as fun as I remember at his age. We spent a lot of time winning tickets to get him the lava lamp. Then he beat me at mini golf. Lol definitely a great family place!

It was fun yea but the wasps? oh mah gawd. They went bzzzz in ma face but thankfully I have W rizz so there was a cutie keepin me safe from the little booty stingy guys. I might be back idk ??

Kids loved it! We did not golf but they love everything else & want to go back . Bathroom was clean. The machine was tripping, not giving us tickets. But the worker was fast about fixing the problem.

Played some mini golf. The course we played on is showing some age but it was still fun. My granddaughter and i rode the go carts. They were fast and fun. We also played some arcade games. Some things weren't working properly but was still fun. Prizes were terrible but didn't matter.

I've been going to cool crest since I was a little kid. Mini-golf is always so much fun here on pretty much any of the four courses. Unfortunately any of the moving parts of the course were no longer working. Understandably, as they're all pretty old, but still a bummer. We were more disappointed with the batting cages, the balls werent being conveyed back to our cage so twice while we were in the cage trying to bat, it ran out of balls halfway through. I'll still keep coming back, as it's always a fun even

Still can have fun but the course is in pretty rough shape. Only 2 out of the 4 courses are open and the ones that are have quite a few broken parts on the holes.

It was honestly super lame. Most Of the game machines ate your coins or didn't give you your tickets. Or didn't work. The mini golf was poorly maintained. The only ok thing was the go karts. Overall I do regret spending my money here. It just sucks and total waste. But the employees are super cool! Just won't be returning

We had a fun afternoon playing a game of mini golf. Course is very dated. As is the building, restrooms.

The mini golf courses are getting pretty tough but we still had a good time playing a quick 18 before dark. I do hope to see some restoration eventually and hope that cool crest remains for years to come.

We stuck with just the arcade when we visited Cool Crest due to weather. The games were fun, but we had issues with the machines taking coins and sometimes not receiving tickets after playing. Friendly service. The bathrooms weren't the best, but the rest of the arcade was to be expected.

Been going here since I was a wee little lad... We redeemed over 79,000 tickets and we're crowned champions of the world. I am also #1 on the piano game :)

Arcades were only half working and kept taking our tokens. They could have put signs on the ones that were out of order. Go-Karts were absolutely awesome i'd go again just for them & Golfing.

Great memories from years gone by and this place is still fun! As I understand, it is currently for sale. Will somebody please BUY IT?? we need to keep a great local family-friendly business opened!

Went for the batting cages but they were broken... Decided on mini golf which was fun

Lots of missing/broken pieces and non working elements. The greens leave much to be desired. A lot of them are pieced together (not very well) as you can see. So sad to see Cool Crest in such a state. Needs a lot of love. The price is awfully high for the state the greens are in. Have such fond memories going there as a youngster. Makes me sad to see it like this!

Staff was friendly & did well. Courses weren't maintained very well & many holes had turf that needed repairs. Also, we were there in the evening & there were very few lights making it difficult to see where to aim or where the golf ball went. The place has potential to be great again, just needs some TLC.

Playing miniature golf here brought back so many good memories - the cool breeze, the big shady trees, and the big metal crocodile! It is a good value. Don't expect fancy flowers and overdone landscaping - just a selection of fun and tricky mini golf courses. There is a very cute old-time diner/ ice cream shop. You will enjoy some great places to take some fun photos. Next time we might try the go carts!

My son and I went here today with a Groupon! He said it was the best day ever! Yes it is older, but you can tell they are working on updates. The arcade and bathrooms were clean. There was staff throughout. We felt safe there. He wants to have his birthday party at Cool Crest now! ??

Courses are old and run down but we still had fun

Many of the features on the golf course were not working. Definitely needs some more attention on the golf courses. Was hoping maybe they spent more money on arcade but several machine were not working. For cost and considering everything is so expensive now it isn't a bad place to spend an hour or 2 just needs some work.

Took my family of 5 here on Saturday, 4th of July weekend. We had so much fun! We started off at the batting cages, which was such a good deal price wise. We only did 30 minutes because of the heat, but even my 6 year old was able to have fun and hit the balls going 30-35mph. Afterwards, we got some drinks and a slice of pizza, then hit the arcade games. For a family of five, we saved an exponential amount of money compared to brick & mortar locations like Dave & Buster?s. We even bought an all-day pass for

I love this place, I've been coming to play mini golf here since I was a kid, and now I bring my kids. It needs some updating, but the employees are always friendly, and the atmosphere is pretty chill. This place is a Kansas City classic that needs a little love.

Still wonderful. I still royally suck. My cane had great assistance as the putter made a great 2nd cane. Mostly went to be w/ my Love. He was trying to recreate one of our 1st dates. Sightly hurt like hell but it made him smile. 80s music playing. I knew the words to almost every song.

We had a blast One of the only places in KC to ride go-karts it was fun for the whole family it is close to the stadium so it's not too far from anywhere in town and the prices are just right I highly recommend this place if you want to have a good time

I have not been here since I was 10 as I don't live in the area any more. I'm 41. I don't think anything has been repaired or updated in that entire time. It was cheap mini golf but I mean none of the obstacles work any more and it literally has not changed in 31 years. Some may like that as it was packed but it's kinda odd. It was fine just shocked it is basically barely maintained.

As some others have mentioned, Cool Crest is not in the same condition it was the last time I was here over 30 years ago. But I loved it! The nostalgia factor is high, the "grass" on the holes was in very nice condition compared to other places we've visited in the last couple of years, and the flowers were well cared for. I'm very glad we went and I hope to make it back again some day!

My kids love this place, they say its better then chuckie cheese.. it's affordable and there's lots to do. Mini golf, go-carts, a jungle gym and the arcade! Only little issue is the bathrooms, when I've gone they are kinda gross. Food is okay.

Kinda pricey, but great fun for entire family. Go carts were slower but understandably so. It's a cool place to go and hang out with friends of all ages. I do wish there was more specials considering most people that come are going to come in groups. Especially groups of two for people on dates or just 2 bffs like me and my best friend here..and family bundles. They have them but it's kind of high. Just a few coupons for visits or something! Winner of golf gets a buy one get one .. this place has stood the

The kiddos LOVED MINI GOLFING!!! One of the holes had an obstacle that was not working and once we told them about they had multiple workers on it to fix the issue right away. It is nice to see that many people ready to help fix issues at the drop of a hat.

It's very apparent why this place has been open over 70 years! Great golf- 4 courses to choose from, arcade games. It's a little run down and in need of some TLC on the courses and especially arcade games. Course could be updated with fresh paints and maintenance to the obstacles. Some of the arcade games were nonfunctional but did not have signs and just ate coins. Hopefully they keep this place on the up and up since it is such a great Independence mainstay.

Visited 6/8/2024 which is today, we did a round of mini golf and then after being highly encouraged to try the batting cages we purchased what was needed to give it a try, we get down to batting cages to see no helmets or bats so we walk back up to ask where we get those items and was then told that someone would have to come down to supervise and get us the equipment but that no one was willing to go down there and do that so, after arguing we got refunded. Very disappointed to be so encouraged to try some

I can't really say I hated it I stopped on my way home the other day because I was on the phone with my mother and told her I saw a rainbow so I pulled over just so I could get a picture for her I haven't been too Cool Crest and I don't know how long so this is not a review for them per se but the last time I was there which was probably 20 years ago it was overpriced and it wasn't very well kept clean, however I will say that the miniature golf was fun.

My kid has had his birthday party here for about five years in a row. Started at ten and just celebrated his 15th. It's truly good for any age and he always has a good time.

We played one course and it was in bad shape. The up keep on it is terrible.

Fun arcade games, 4 different mini golf courses. A bit run down, lots of hole number and Par signs were missing on the Queen's course, and the alligator hole ate peoples ball so skipped that one after seeing the group in front of stalled trying to retrieve it. They have go kart tracks, a small food court (kitchen closes 7p on Friday nights), arade prizes the whole gambit.

How is there so many employees behind the counter but one person helping the long line??? Incredibly inefficient.

If We could give a six star we would. Definitely was over the top customer service experience winter birthday. We're on our daughters birthday and the manager of the building made it special for her!

The boys had fun riding go karts but they are slow and need a tune up. Anyone looking to save money Groupon!!!

Had A Wonderful Time At Cool Crest And The Grandbabies Had A BLAST!! I'M PLANNING MY NEXT TRIP SOON.

Planned and had a birthday here. The packages are decent and affordable for what they offer with them. The staff is friendly and helpful and willing to answer any and all questions. The reason for 4 stars is the games don't give the tickets shown on the screen and the ticket counters tend to only have 1 running at a time. Other than that I would recommend this place for a fun afternoon with the family for big and small kids. They often have package specials for families to get the best bang for your buck a

Kids loved it and I won a free game from hitting a hole in one at the end!

There's a few games that don't work but they'll always help you out, it's always been a good place to take the kids and I used to come here when I was a kid. So to share the same memories with mine is priceless!

This place is a complete rip off! As soon as we walked in the token machine ate our money. We had to go to the front counter to get what we had already paid for. Half the games were not even on, the ones that were on did not operate. Five of the games just ate our tokens. Instead of refunding our money they just offered us more tokens to lose in inoperable games. Probably don't need so say we won't ever be back.

Please fix the batting cages. They have been down forever and no progress has been made. Batting cages are very hard to find these days, so I'm sure it would bring a lot of buisiness. I know i would spend a lot on batting tokens. If the batting cages get up and running again I will change this to 5 stars.

I brought my son here today 5/5/2023. It was at 5:30 and they were not busy at all. There was one helpful older gentleman who told me to get tokens from the machine and not the counter because you don't have to pay tax. Other than that every young person working here was rude and not helpful. They were all standing in a circle talking, not wanting to be interrupted. When I went to the counter originally for tokens the young woman working argued with a young guy on who would help me. They were two feet in fr

Going to play the games is great! It's a straightforward forward arcade unlike most around now. If you go to the cashier instead of the token machine, you'll get more tokens for your money, but that does mean you will be paying taxes. The pizza is insanely expensive, especially for how thin it is with very little pepperoni. You can't bring in a cake for your birthday unless you reserve a birthday booth, but the ticket payout was great! Maybe that's because the prizes aren't... Basically, just go to play th

I have so many great memories of this place throughout the years! School field trips, dates, family outings and play dates! I think it's a fun place but it definitely needs a major update, as it still looks the same way it did 30 years ago when I first came to this place! Some of the mechanical holes don't even work anymore, so that's a bit disappointing. It is a great place for the memories of many, but if I were a visitor coming here for the first time, I wouldn't think too highly of this place unfortunat

We had a great time. The clown at the first hole seemed to be broken and a few other MINOR upkeep issues, but I would recommend it to anyone for a fun experience.

The guys that work the go karts are freaking awesome!! I've taken my kids twice recently and both times they went above and beyond to make sure my kids had fun!

It is sad to see a Kansas City icon in disrepair and looking like it would fail soon. Only one of three miniature golf courses was open, the snack bar had only a few pre-packaged items, the games were old and in poor repair, and it just looked shabby. We will not return.

The experience playing golf, wasting some tokens in the arcade, and zipping around the go-kart track was fine. However anyone that had gone in the 1980s or before would be shocked. The four courses have been just barely maintained. Many functional parts (windmills, tilting rockets...) are just gone now. The gardens are watered, but only a fraction of the plants are present. Much of the artistic detail has been broken over the years and not replaced. The greens are in variable condition. Some are fine while

Been going since I could walk I will be taking my daughters here when they get old enough

Arcade was great hit the jackpot on multiple games! Staff were really friendly and helpful. There was a three hour unlimited pass for mini golf and go karts, and for some reason you could only buy it at certain times. Otherwise they have been getting more up to date

We love this place. May not be flashy but cost is reasonable and its lots of fun.

I highly suggest buying your tickets from Groupon. If you try to buy them off cool crest's website and head in shortly after the staff will tell you it takes 24 hours for it to register in their system. This was very inconvenient. They had to issue a refund (which can take 5-7 days) and buy then purchase the tickets from them in person at the desk for a higher price. Other than that, the go-karts were really fun! Mini golf could use some nice decor or something to liven it up. Arcade was a little on the ru

Even tho it does need and up grade and the workers are not caring who pays or not ??. Me and baby had a great time brought bk memories!

We used to come here all the time when I was a kid. They have a game room inside and 4 mini-golf courses outside. I recently went here on a girl's day outing with some friends and, while we had fun, the place is really run down. Many of the holes are damaged. Examples: the "starting pad" on several was completely detached, water not on in the fountains, outdoor carpeting making up the "green" was wrinkled or sliced, various themed elements on the holes were rusty, many elements in the holes were blocked f

I've played these courses in two separate visits (both times with two adults and two kids) almost twenty years apart. The first time was way back in the late 1990s and it was fantastic. The course was old even then, but all the moving obstacles were fun and made for a combination of skill + luck. (Rocket ship was the best) The landscaping was great and well kept and it was packed and it had a fun atmosphere. Our second recent visit was so different. The whole place needs some TLC and upkeep. Few of the movi

This is a Great Stop for Games ,and Mini Golf. And They even have a Go Cart Racetrack ! Lots of Fun!!!!

It's a place for mini golf but not kept up very well. All the clubs are sticky, and one course, our ball disappeared and never popped out on hole 11, but with only 2 people trying to run a very busy place, no one could come help us. The courses need to be updated.

Classic putt putt course. A little aged but very fun.

Three of us had a great time on a sunny Monday morning at the Put-Put! They have 4 courses. 2 of them are nicely shaded and 2 have a little more sun. One of the courses was closed ( I guess they are doing some improvements to it, since it looked the least maintained). Great for kids, adults and elders.

I'm so glad I chose this place for my daughter's birthday party. Extreme bang for your buck. Our host, Malik, was outstanding. And the manager was super helpful and accommodating. We will definitely be back.

Frequently Asked Questions

What’s it like visiting an arcade today?

It’s a mix of nostalgia and high-energy fun! Many arcades blend retro classics like Pac-Man and pinball with modern VR games, racing simulators, and rhythm challenges — often with music, lights, and a social vibe.

Is it better to go alone or with friends?

Both can be great! Solo visits let you focus on your favorite games, while going with friends adds competition, teamwork, and laughs. Many people plan arcade meetups as a casual hangout or even date spot.

What should I bring to an arcade?

Usually just yourself and a way to pay (some arcades still use coins, others use cards or apps). If you're competitive, bring your A-game. If you're social, bring friends or meet new ones over multiplayer games.

What’s the best time to visit an arcade?

Weekdays or early afternoons are usually less crowded — perfect for focused play. Evenings and weekends bring the buzz, especially at barcades or venues with DJs, tournaments, or themed nights.

Can I meet new people at arcades?

Absolutely! Arcades attract a mix of casual players and serious gamers. Whether you're jumping into a four-player co-op or chatting between rounds, it's a fun, low-pressure way to connect over shared interests.

Are arcades still just for kids?

Not at all. While many arcades are family-friendly, there are also adult-oriented ones with full bars, 18+ nights, or vintage nostalgia themes. Arcades today cater to everyone — from first-timers to lifelong gamers.

Are there events or tournaments I can join?

Yes! Many arcades host regular competitions, retro nights, cosplay parties, and more. Whether you're into high scores or just want to watch and vibe, events add an extra layer to the experience.

What if I’m not great at arcade games?

No worries — arcades are about having fun, not being perfect. Try a variety of games, ask others for tips, and remember: the vibe is more “let’s play” than “let’s win.”

Why are arcade prize games so exciting to play?

Arcade prize games are a thrilling highlight in 2025! Claw machines, skee-ball, and ticket-redemption games like basketball offer a rush of skill and chance, with rewards like plushies, toys, or electronics up for grabs. Modern machines feature vibrant lights, digital scoreboards, and responsive controls, amplifying the fun. The lively arcade atmosphere, with cheering crowds and buzzing energy, makes every win feel epic.
