The sandwiches were phenomenal! We got the South Paw and the Italian. I'd highly recommend either. Everyone working there was incredibly nice. They had fun local sodas in cans and a pretty good tap list. If I'm ever in Dayton again, I'm absolutely coming here.
Best place I got to stop at in Dayton, can't beat walking into TNG on all the screens. Really nice staff, treated me like a local on a Sunday night. By far one of the best sandwiches I've had in a while, the Tommy gun has a really good kick to it. Whoever runs the sandwich counter is amazing and made sure everyone who ordered actually got what they wanted. That's beyond 5 star customer service. I will make a point to stop here whenever I'm in Dayton.
The deli food is excellent and reliable. Good to just stop in for a quick lunch with a wide selection of deli sandwiches, chips and soda. The day we were there Sinatra was the music theme - loved it! Quirky atmosphere with bar staples and pinball machines.
Nice big variety of snacks and drinks. And the service was very friendly. No entry fee. Nice old jukebox with great selection of songs. 1 dollar gets you three songs. Be it 3 times something else or 3 times "Raining blood" by Slayer :) we had fun. Especially with the Lord of the Rings pinball
This was my first bar experience, it was recommended to me by my aunt and this was excellent. The food was fast and absolutely delicious (i got the summer jam) the cocktails i got were a cosmo, whiskey sour, and their signature dark shadow, all were delicious. The two ladies were super attentive and the vibes are immaculate. 10/10 first experience
Great spot to grab a sandwich. Been here quite a few times and the food and drinks are spot on. A few tables and a bar to dine in.
Have had the Reuben a few times already and it is DELICIOUS! The inside is very cool- lots of old school games and pin ball machines, nice bar area. Service was quick and friendly.
My son is obsessed with classic arcade games. This place is super cool! They have various games available for play- some of them are even free!( Check the hours for age restrictions.) The food was great! Unique menu with something to offer everyone. There's also a full bar. Staff was very friendly and helpful. Super laid back environment...good energy....lots of historical game related memorabilia. I think we got some "cool parent" points for taking our teenage sons. SO, there's also that!
I've been coming to this place since it was originally on 5th st! They have never disappointed. One of the best sandwich shops in all of the OHIO! My favorite is the champ! Can't get enough of the grilled banana peppers. Quality ingredients! Plus service is always 10/10! Love that I can play video games and have lunch. If you haven't been here it's worth it!
Great food and drinks. The bartender Liz has been the best, always remembers the people even on different days and remember?s what they're having. Will come again next time I'm back in town.
Make your own ...slap this Dayton Gem on the Menu! Pastrami sandwich on everything bagel with an over easy egg! Best sandwich I've had there... Call it the LAZER LIGHT SHOW
Kind of a cool place! Old school video games, bar and deli. Not a ton of room for seating and eating, would be a nice evening and night spot. I have had a few of the sandwiches which are always good. The service is fast and friendly and they do have parking out front.
I've been there several times to pick up some of their delicious sandwiches! Every one of the sandwiches I've tried has been super tasty with an original recipe! The menu on the board is a bit overwhelming but the staff is super helpful to help you decide! They also have personal size pizza, soup and salads. Some of the sandwiches come in 3 different sizes: Small is half, Medium is a full sandwich and Large is a full with extra meat. The deli meat is also sold by the pound for you to take home. You can al
Got the medium reuben sandwich with potato salad. Very delicious!
Take the kids before 3pm for arcade games, sammies and adult bevs. Small Sammies are half Sammies like a piece of bread cut in half. Still nice but a large may be a better choice. Some games are free play others are paid for in quarters from a change machine. Great local spot near Dragon?s stadium. Thank you!
If you like arcades, good food and drinks, you'll love this place! Pinball machines and arcade games surround the tables to give you a feeling of the good old days ??. Order your food at an old wooden counter, then enjoy a game while you wait for your food. Sandwiches were hot and fresh. The cheese and sauce on the rueben melted together with such an awesome taste. The polish sausage sandwich, with bacon and cheese was superb. Staff friendly very helpful since this was our first visit! We will definitely be
Delicious sandwiches and drinks in a beautiful historic building. I cant get enough of the rueben : ) Great patio area for social distancing! On the patio you can enjoy alcoholic drinks and food. They have tons of arcade games packed inside but they are currently not up for use. The staff are always friendly and its within walking distance of Riverscape and the baseball field.
I love this deli!! Sandwiches are delicious and fresh I tried a few but my go to sandwich is the chicken salad mmmmmm it's delicious it comes on raisin bread I highly recommend. Staff was friendly and welcoming. I also enjoyed their chocolate chip cookie.
I've been here a few times, and I try to select a new item to try each time. This time, I tried the Cool Runnings sub or sandwich (not sure of the exact verbiage, lol). Regardless, it was delicious. I've had the Motown Philly in the past, and you can't go wrong with that selection.
Love coming to canal its our favorite spot! bartenders and staff are always welcoming and friendly. i got the southpaw and my boyfriend got the Sinatra and they are delicious and look amazing for an affordable price. check it out !
Never been disappointed coming here. Portions are always generous and plenty good. Ordered the Jerk Chicken Polish Sausage and its alot bigger than I expected. Gonna keep coming back like I always do. Good food for a good price, can't complain
Took my kids here (8 & 16) and they had a blast. The food was good, but for the quantity the price was a bit steep. That's my only complaint in regards to the place though. The employees were very welcoming and helpful and the list of beers ample. Highly recommend.
The coolest spot to get an amazing sandwich!! They have Old arcade games I haven't seen in ages! For sure a great spot to stop!
I had the best Italian sandwich I've ever had in my life here today! Amazing. They also have an extensive selection of beer on tap, so bring your growler. The games are a plus as well. They are always working too witch is nice. Great little spot.
Canal Street Arcade and Deli is one of the coolest places to grab a bite to eat and a drink in the area. There are plenty of pinball and arcade games to play, but the sandwiches are what really stand out. They have the best sandwiches in town! The Super is fantastic! The staff is awesome too! They provide outstanding service and are all very friendly. Located close to the city's bike trails this place is an awesome stop to hydrate after a ride!
Head down here if you have an hour or two to kill. There are copious amounts of delicious beer on tap, incredible sandwiches made with Boar's Head ingredients, tons of free adhes/or cheap arcade games, a laid back vibe, a killer jukebox selection, and the staff are wonderful! I know that some people are still salty and upset that this isn't Canal Street Tavern anymore, but the spirit of CST lives on in other venues throughout Dayton. Enjoy this place! Also, know that the wait time for sandwiches can be a li
The perfect find for sandwich addicted foodies. The games and bar are a great touch, but the secret sauce is the creative sandwiches and deli selections. They aren't sub sandwiches .. more like Sammy made by mom for hungry teenagers. Huge fan, so glad we stopped. The bartender had a Dinos tshirt on so we felt like we were back home in Nashville.
Canal Street aracaris and Deli is one of my favorite spots to post up at for a few drinks and food. Their menu is insanely delicious. I suggest the southpaw if you are looking for a good sandwich. Beers on tap and in cans/bottles are always plentiful to choose from. And did I mention free arcade games? The only ones that cost money are the pinball games. They also have a fantastic patio and walking distance to the dragons stadium as well.
Happened across this gem while visiting family for Christmas. All of the arcade games are free to play (you have to pay to play pinball). They have a cozy little living room type space on a platform which are the best seats in the house. The drinks are reasonably priced, and while we didn't eat there, I've no doubt the food is great. Fantastic music selection on a grand old jukebox. The place is totally retro and chill. Fabulous place to relax and kick one back.
Top notch food, deli meats and sandwiches out of this world, with fresh ingredients. Great vibe, lots of arcade games and drinks to keep you coming back.
Great beer selection. Awesome deli. Movie playing and games. What more can you ask for? A bar that most would people would want to vision. Most games are free play. Really, it's a good place to visit and grab a beer and bite to eat -- a must stop while visiting for work travel. At a minimum, a place to start and/or finish an evening downtown. Found this place due to fact it's the one of few places opened on a Monday. Cheers for being open on a Monday -- must be a Midwest thing.
This place deserves a MUCH lower rating than the current 4.7 stars. Poor service from shockingly rude and unprofessional staff, sandwiches are grease-soaked and sloppy, and the place itself is grimey. I gave it a few tries and will never be back.
Awesome place, I love the whole vibe and all the pinball machines. The food is pretty damn good too!
(Orginal comments)So I just moved back to Dayton and I used to remember a deli sandwich restaurant that was on 5th street. My friend told me about this restaurant since the 5street deli wasn't around anymore. Well I came into this restaurant on Sunday evening and it wasn't too busy but not too dead either. When I got my food I was amazed on how polite the Staff was and how good the food was this place is wonderful I give it a perfect 5 ?????????? and it's really cool that they have all the pinball machines
Absolutely amazing sandwiches and so many games to choose from. Came back later and the guy at the door was super nice. Overall, great atmosphere and service!
First time here! So fun and cool atmosphere. We were here early in the day for lunch with our teens and friends who have a baby. Very family friendly during the day hours. Great food! Lots of selections including vegetarian options! We will be back!"
Great cheesesteak. Fun to play video games from the past. Video games were free. Pinball was very inexpensive. We sat at the end of a table with four other couples that asked us to join them. Enjoyable evening.
Out of town or from suburbs, want to get a pulse on Downtown Dayton? You've arrived. The history of Canal Street is rad, pinball tables, cool staff, solid sandwiches.
Best deli in the downtown area. I've been coming since they were at the old location and nothing has changed. It's so great to have a place where all you need is a $20 bill to get chips a sandwich and a cold beer and you still have a few bucks left to tip. Whoever named the bathrooms also deserves some love. I've always felt welcome here :)
Dude, this place is super cool! LOTS of vintage pinball machines. Some 90's-era arcade games, mostly free to play. Pinball costs quarters. I had them make me a cold Reuben, which i know is weird, but it's hot in the summer! All kinds of one-off sodas (Sioux City Sarsaparilla!). I'm not in Dayton often, but when i return, I WILL be back here.
Apparently I ?accidentally? played the bar tenders pin ball game after she rudely told me about it, then a few minutes later heard her tell someone else that they were playing her game on a different pin ball machine. Not sure what that's about.
Great place, morning, noon, or night! They have some free-to-play arcade machines, and a huge pinball selection. This is a favorite spot within walking distance of Tender Mercy to go after and grab a sandwich, if I'm enjoying a night out. Order any sandwich off their menu, you cannot go wrong! Skip the chain restaurants like Jimmy John's or Penn Station, stop into Cabal Street.
Quite small but the customers were all smiling. Great service; super food offerings.
First time here with my son who got me hip! I will def be back to play that Willy Wonka pinball game and the sammies were great and you get your choice of chips and a drink 21 and up after 5 p.m.
My food was delicious. A hidden gem in Dayton. Great old-school arcade games
My boyfriend and I came here to play pinball, and decided to have lunch while we were there. I had the best sandwich of my life! The arcade machines are free to play, but the pinball machine costs quarters. Some machines were a buck, some 75, and 2 or 3 were 50 cents. There is an atm and a coin machine in the building. I loved the Mrs. Pacman in the ladies room. I will definitely be going back!
I visited after this place it was suggested by a local Lyft driver. It's a quaint bar with great drinks and sandwiches. The atmosphere is very nostalgic full of vintage video games, pinball machines, and a jukebox. The staff was very friendly and customer service was top notch. I enjoyed it so much that I visited again the next day before I headed to the airport to head home. 10 out of 10, I highly recommend!
One of my favorite spots in downtown Dayton. Chill atmosphere, large selection of free games to play while you wait (as in like 200 on a projection screen and individual machines like PAC-Man) and last but not least great sandwiches including my favorite, the Reuben. Nice staff as well, highly recommend for lunch or a late night snack with some friends.
This place is effing amazing. My SO and I are hooked on their food and vibe and keep coming back! Every sandwich blows my mind - you cannot go wrong with any choice. Desserts too! The man who runs the deli counter is super friendly and the whole place just exudes a really cool local vibe. Best falafel wrap I've ever had. The curry sandwich is also unbelievable. If I ever leave Dayton this place will be top 3 things I miss.
Great food and a lot of fun. Brings back memories of wasting many hours in arcades. Lord, I'm old
Definitely my favorite spot in downtown Dayton. Diverse crowd and great food. Try their sandwiches and soup of the day. All of the arcade games are free besides pinball. They play cool shows on their VHS player. Bartenders and staff are awesome.
Great local sandwich place with a good bar and some fun arcade games
Never done this before and if I did I'd be more likely to be supportive. New to area. Liked this place before. Single 5 minutes ruined. Work all day. Have a serious profession. Normally great food and good atmosphere. Tonight, Ordered my food was gonna decompress by playing their games. This place is great for takeout if you live near by and they have tournaments that seemed cool. I just moved to the area and live 1 minute away. Saw myself a future regular but today when I wanted to eat my sandwich and g
The place is fairly small and has limited seating. There is food, but it is largely deli stuff. Pretty good food. The pinball selection is nice with plenty of quality machines.
A co-worker suggested this place for lunch. He was right! Food was great. Service was quick. I'll have to come back sometime when I have time to play their collection of pinball machines and can have a beer off their eclectic tap list.
Visiting family in Dayton and we are from the Northeast (Philadelphia area), which has some of the best Deli?s in the country. Our niece and her boyfriend took us here last night. This place can compete with any of them! My wife and I were blown away by the food quality, even at 11:00 PM it was incredible. Aside from the food being amazing the bar and arcade atmosphere are genius! Very cool spot!
I had the Southpaw sandwich and it was great! Love the atmosphere too. 10/10
Everything I wanted: fun games, good beer selection, great sandwiches. It's a real gem.
Incredible food and service! I got the summer-jam and it was SO GOOD. Great service and fun atmosphere.
Not family friendly, no kids allowed. Very rudely aggressively chased down to kick us out
Fun, cute place with good beer & good food. Self-service counter-style. Kind-of a home in the wall with an almost non-existent signage for their business (painted black outside at the end of a little strip) & parking was a little rough, but it's a cool place to hang out with friends without feel rushed to leave
Great food at decent prices, friendly staff, and cool arcade atmosphere
BLT was great, Motown Philly a little bit too greasy
Pastrami is wonderful. I loved this place. Can't wait to bring the kids for a lunch date soon.
Awesome retro atmosphere, free games, full bar with local drinks, delicious and unique food. A great place to take a date, hang out with a group, or just grab lunch.
Absolutely love this place!!! Great deli sandwich!!!! Fun atmosphere with the video games. Great staff!!!
A busy place where the locals seemed to hang out. Music, Free video games and a bar.
My favorite bar/restaurant in Dayton. The only place i know that has an in-house deli, 10+ beers on tap (rotating) and vintage arcade games. The food is delicious, the staff are friendly and helpful and the games are great. Cannot recommend this place high enough!
The bartender told me I said something ?incredibly offensive? to another bartender there. I had never previously gone to this bar. Bad service from poor bartenders. Steer clear. Feel bad for the owner.
Had a hankering for a good deli sammich so I hopped on over to Canal Street. Can't go wrong with the Champ, but honestly, everything they have is absolutely fantastic. Good bar service with a wide variety of liquors and a decent tap list featuring quite a few local brews. I did get the high score of the day (so far) on Galaga so don't be too jealous.
If you want a chill place for a drink, this is the stop you make. Wveryone is friendly and the area is comfy. The deli sandwiches are amazing as well, so try a few! The BLT is the best!
The guys at the sandwich counter are always very friendly and helpful with suggestions. Sandwiches here are quite good, especially the Champ and the BLT! My coworkers are always checking out my lunch and asking where it came from because they look and smell so good. This place has an old school cool vibe. I've not been to drink or play games but they have a full bar and dozens of old arcade games for those interested.
Nice sandwiches. Always seems to have something new to try.
Pinball, sandwiches, spirits! Even had room for the old school cigarette vending machine...well done Canal Street...
The food is absolutely amazing I was told that one of the chef's name is Shannon and if you are a Tiramisu lover I recommend the champ sandwich is also amazing please come hungry and leave happy and full
The food was good, I had the Monster sandwich and the Duck bacon wontons. The sandwich was delicious but the wontons were a little over cooked. No big deal, just a little black on the outside. The bartender and gentleman working the orders were patient and very helpful. I will definitely come back. Then you add in the games. Pinball cost a bit, but the vintage video games were free play.
Stopped here early on a Sunday and had a great time. The sandwich was very good and the pinball machines were in great shape. Wish I could say the same about the arcade games. Donkey kong had a very dim monitor.
So so good, I'm a very picky eater, and I love the Philly mMm. 7yrs later I have come to New location & I got a Small Turkey very good too!
Recently moved downtown and this is our go-to bar. They have cheap pitchers of beer, some of the best deli sandwiches in Dayton, video games, and some of the nicest dudes and gals ever running the place.
Food was severely overrated. 4 game machines out of order. Management was a joke. Bad attitudes all around. Only positive was they had red cream soda. Would give a negative star if I could. Stay away from this place & spend your money elsewhere.
Great variety/big menu at the deli for a small place. Service is fast, and the staff is very friendly!
I've been eating here 2-3 times a week for years now. Love the staff and best sandwiches in town. I love grabbing my lunch and playing some games while I wait. I come here for beers in evenings often too. Tons of pinball and can play for hours. But back to the food? best Reuben I've ever had, buffalo chicken has a great kick, Italian is amazing, southpaw is another staple, chicken salad on the raisin bread is great when it's super hot outside. Honestly can't love this place more. Go here if you want the bes
This nostalgic slice of heaven is all I can talk about lately. The Deli has amazing sandwiches (recommended the Italian). The bar has a great selection of draft beers, ciders, and sours. The arcade takes me back to growing up in the 70s and 80s and spending hours in an arcade. There are some games that are free to play!! You'll have a blast here!!
Nice selection of draft beers, FREE arcade games, great sandwiches. What else could you ask for.
Came for a beer and played a couple arcade games. It's a bar, arcade and deli in one place. The sandwiches looked good but didn't have time to try during our visit. Pretty cool place and definitely will be back next time we're in Dayton.
Best deli sandwiches around! The summer jam is my favorite! Great staff and atmosphere, you can play vintage arcade games, they also have an awesome array of pinball machines and a full bar! ??
Love the Yellow Springs (for veggies) or Sinatra (for meat) shown here! Fun place, quality food and bar.
Amazing sandwiches and free arcade games. What more can you ask for?
It’s a mix of nostalgia and high-energy fun! Many arcades blend retro classics like Pac-Man and pinball with modern VR games, racing simulators, and rhythm challenges — often with music, lights, and a social vibe.
Both can be great! Solo visits let you focus on your favorite games, while going with friends adds competition, teamwork, and laughs. Many people plan arcade meetups as a casual hangout or even date spot.
Usually just yourself and a way to pay (some arcades still use coins, others use cards or apps). If you're competitive, bring your A-game. If you're social, bring friends or meet new ones over multiplayer games.
Weekdays or early afternoons are usually less crowded — perfect for focused play. Evenings and weekends bring the buzz, especially at barcades or venues with DJs, tournaments, or themed nights.
Absolutely! Arcades attract a mix of casual players and serious gamers. Whether you're jumping into a four-player co-op or chatting between rounds, it's a fun, low-pressure way to connect over shared interests.
Not at all. While many arcades are family-friendly, there are also adult-oriented ones with full bars, 18+ nights, or vintage nostalgia themes. Arcades today cater to everyone — from first-timers to lifelong gamers.
Yes! Many arcades host regular competitions, retro nights, cosplay parties, and more. Whether you're into high scores or just want to watch and vibe, events add an extra layer to the experience.
No worries — arcades are about having fun, not being perfect. Try a variety of games, ask others for tips, and remember: the vibe is more “let’s play” than “let’s win.”
