This was our first time here but we look forward to going back. My husband, myself and our 19 year old had a great time playing games. It was nice to be able to sit outside to take a break from the noise of the games. We had dinner plans but you can eat there as well. Glad we found Boxcar online when we were looking for something to do.

Nice place and mixed drinks ?? are not too expensive. The other patrons were very friendly ???????? and they even had a boxing game ?? that I used to play when I was a kid. Good evening!!

Boxcar has something for everyone. They have tons of affordable games. Unlike that big commercial brand arcade place. The food is made to order and arrives quickly. The back area has space for anything from a birthday to professional wrestling.

I can't give this place 5 stars, even though I enjoy it so much. Drinks are tasty and very reasonably priced, it's clean, staff is polite AND friendly. Pizza oven guys are awesome! My only real problem is that half the games are always broken. Other than that? Solid spot to hang.

Fun times with work friends colleagues & complete strangers ??. Awesome selection of games.

Really cool place to meet up with friends for drinks and play games at the same time. Super busy on Friday nights and weekends because it's a super fun spot. Love the specials they have each day like their $5 Green Tea Shots on Fridays. A lot of arcade games to choose from and the prices aren't too bad compared to other arcades nowadays. If you want to try out their pizzas, I recommend the Pepperoni with Hot Honey. There is street parking and also a paid parking lot nearby.

I am an arcade lover! The retro games are what I love the most, like from Atari. The staff outside who scan your ID upon entry are friendly, but the staff inside are not. They are not helpful, and I thought about ordering a pizza inside. I made eye contact with the worker, but he never greeted me or asked me if I needed any help. The location is crowded, but it's so much fun! I love the decor. I will return, but training on hospitality and professionalism needs to happen. Your company lost revenue b

Awesome spot for hanging out with family, friends or co-workers. Plenty of variety with games including arcade, racing, fighting, Guitar Hero, pool, pinball and more! Plenty of drinks and tasty pizza with quick and friendly service. Good value for the games too.

First time here with co-workers and it's an arcade for adults and kids but no kids after 7pm. They have a huge bar you can walk up to and get served. But only one girl was working the night I went, which was during the week, and you may have to wait a few minutes to be served a drink. The pizzeria was open and smelled delicious. I didn't try because they only sold the pizza by the whole and no slices, and I wasn't that hungry for a whole pizza. The atmosphere can get a little loud, but the games can keep y

We had our wedding yesterday in the event room and it was nothing short of amazing! The food was amazing and loved by our guests, the event room was clean and organized. The only hiccup we experienced was the event coordinator we were originally working with leaving her role a few weeks before our event (if you see this, we missed you! Thank you for all of your assistance in the beginning of planning!) the staff that helped out did amazing and we especially want to shout out Ryan who was beyond attentive, a

Always a great time here! The games are fun in a great uplifting atmosphere. The free yoga on Sunday is a great bonus and the instructor is very helpful and kind.

Got two pizzas and it only cost me about $15 so great deal on food my beer was average price 7.50 which is also great especially since they have a couple ipas on draught. Brought my nephew and he ate en tire cheese pizza and bugged out on all the games.

My wife and I moved to NC four years ago and have been looking for something to do, my daughter a recent graduate of A&T university recommended Boxcar. The pizza was Great! The service was good and we will be back soon.

Really cool arcade. My dog was allowed in. My child was allowed in too because it was before 7 pm. The employees were nice. There is an outside seating area and an inside seating area. You can order pizza outside and it smelled sooooo good! You put in a credit card and get tokens to play the games. There were quite a few pinball machines which I LOVE. It is pretty dark and noisy inside so if that isn't your scene, pull up a chair outside and just listen to the rumble. We were pleased with the cost of the g

This is a great place, all but the 1 grumpy bartender. ?? WE had a good time , but had to go to the other end of the bar on 2 occasions due to 1 bartender just looking around looking as he was mad at the world. Other than grumpy pants we had a good time. Great old school pinball games. And nice outside sitting area. There we're 2 men playing the guitar and singing as we left. Check this place out it was worth it..

I just love it here! ?? Perfect for kids, adults and the whole family. Be sure to check out free yoga on Sunday & stay for mimosas after! (Bc that's what I do) ????

Honestly, I just went for the free yoga. I had THE BEST TIME!! I can't wait to go back and enjoy time fantastic drink specials and fun games. If I had such a blast during yoga, I imagine it's an unforgettable experience once the bar opens.

Was in the area and found this place randomly. Decided to walk in and check it out. Place is huge and has really cool atmosphere. Tons of vintage arcade game options and new games. Plenty of games to choose from!! Great selection of drinks and prices are very affordable. Bar area is really big and place was fully staffed. Staff is friendly and service is fast. Cool artwork on the walls. Gives a fun hip vibe. Outside patio area is gigantic. Big selection of pizza options. Wish they had gluten free though ??

This is always my go to bar in Greensboro, if you want a chill vibe to hang out with friends to chat you have the outside seating, if you're on a date and wanna get to know that special someone you can play their arcade games and then make your way to the different seating areas to do so. Sometimes they even have special events going on. Atmosphere is always a 10/10 though

The best part about this place is the deals on mimosas/champagne on Sundays. Hard to beat $2 mimosas and from my experience they're not weak. However, if you want to venture outside of the deals, the drink prices are quite steep. I was initially so excited to see high noons on the menu until I saw that they were 10 dollars a piece. A bit unreasonable, I haven't ever seen such a high price for one drink outside of Vegas. The worst part of the experience was the service. The male bartender working was quite

On Sunday February 23, 2025 the Event Space (that is truly a best kept secret) at Boxcar Bar & Arcade in Downtown Greensboro peaked the imagination of turning a garage space into an amazing place! Cierra & the Boxcar Bar & Arcade Crew ?raised the bar? when it comes to professionalism, preparation, and presentation! I met with Cierra in mid-January 2025. I explained that I wanted to host a grande? Co-Ed baby shower for our expectant parents Vincent & Vatai which catered to Men, Women & Children. I shared my

Haven't tried the food I only come to drink and play games lol bar tenders are great and super friendly . Staff is all amazing especially Tyler! Note to the owner please please have the MMA fights on Saturdays it would bring in so much more business. I would be there every weekend !! ????

What a great place to hang out at! Roomy area with plenty of elbow room. Friendly staff and an amazing collection of old and new arcade machines. I'm into pinball and boxcar had all LE machines which is pretty unique to have in a public setting. The pizza from the food truck was great as well. I will return next time I'm in the area.

came here with a friend and his bf while they were visiting out of town. It was a Monday night around 8:30pm. It wasn't busy at first. First, we had our IDs checked. Guests must be over a certain age after a certain time. Inside, I was truly shocked. It has changed so much since the last time that I have been there. I saw that they have added a food section when normally it was the food truck outside. They rearrange the layout of the games as well. I also noticed that there seem to be new paint on the wall

Love Box Car for games and drinks! The green tea shots are yummy and smooth. There's so many games to play without waiting for others to finish up. Very casual but exciting atmosphere.

This little hole in the wall was a blast. Full bar freshly made pizza with a wide variety of choices speciality pizzas and an event room setup four gatherings. Our work group had a get together yesterday evening that started an hour before public opening and the staff treated us like regulars at their spot, all around great experience food as good drinks were great with speedy service and we all had a great time. General parking does have a charge of 9 dollars for pm parking but worth it for ease of acces

I was invited by my place of work, and even had to rsvp and that even said bring your kids. Brought my bf who is 21, and myself as 20. They would not let me in the door as an adult without a parent or guardian. At 5pm in the day, the event was from 4 to 7pm. There is no option for a wristband or hand stamp for under 21. They need to do better.

Boxcar is amazing fun for Kids and Adults. With Adult only play after 7 there's something for everyone. Drinks were good and well priced. Food was piping hot and freshly prepared. Lots of different types of games and plenty of space. We are already planning our next game night!

Nice place. HUGE gaming area and plenty of space to walk around. Excellent service. Pizza truck outside for ordering food. Huge outside porch with tables and chairs. Lots of video games with Skeet Ball and Air Hockey. Hard to find free parking but there is an adjacent paid parking lot across the tracks, $4 a space (cash only machine, no change).

Always a great time & very friendly service. Juan is the best, but everyone on staff is always pleasant to work with. The food is consistently well made & is extra good after a few drinks. 10/10 should visit

An absolutely amazing place. Hours of fun to be had and there are games for all ages and skill levels. The staff were wonderful and service was fast. The games are affordable so a little money lasts a long time, especially if you play the classic games. There is great food and plenty of drink options. A perfect place to hang with friends and/or family have a really good time.

Usual go to place for Arcade! This has a great vibe to kill time late night on weekends. They do $5 drinks and usually drinks are cheap. Few of the Arcade games are faulty & you might lose a few quarters just stuck in and unable to play.

I love everyone that worked there. I love their gluten free pizza too! It tasted great, and it was a decent size! It was wonderful and nice ??

Bring your kids here during the day and the whole family will have a blast. Come in the evening with adult friends and have a fun night out without the kids. It's gonna be a fun time either way!

The bartender was so rude and do unprofessional. I was talking to her manager about the horrible service and proceeded to yell in my face screaming asking for my order. Then she refused to serve after I asked her who she was talking to. She was is verbatim, ?You're not getting anything tonight!? And walked off with a smirk. Like grow up and do your job.

Last night was the first time every visiting here! Definitely a cool place to come drink some cold beers and play some games. If you're ever around this area make sure to stop in and try it out!

Came to have a good time paid for parking then got a ticket from the same parking lot I paid already that all people going to boxcar parked in! Called manager and he wouldn't give me his name and then hung up in my face. Now he will not answer a business phone and he was rude! BOXCAR IS POCKETING MONEY AND USING AN OUT OF STATE FAKE SERVICE TO DO SO! YALL PLEASE DONT SUPPORT THEM! THEY ARE A SCAM, THEM AND THE TICKETING COMPANY WORK TOGETHER! So you pay for parking spend money in Boxcar then they scam you o

Good games and music to just chill out and vibe. It's free to enter. $5 for 20 tokens. It was nice to get to play some childhood games again

Great venue for private events and hangout.

Super cool barcade with a huge variety of games!! More than I've ever seen at a barcade. They've got everything from pinball machines, DDR, guitar hero, Nintendo games (those are free!), even air hockey and skeeball (they have free tournaments every week for these). Awesome space with lots of murals on the walls. It's doggie friendly too! They have a ton of taps including lots of local beer and ciders. Spirits from the distillery across the street. You can get woodfired pizza from the pizza truck parked ou

Great venue to play games. Think of it as a scaled down Dave & Busters with a small town feel. Games are played with tokens that you can purchase by cash or card. One token = $.25. Majority of the classics (Donkey Kong, Ms Pac Man, Frogger, etc) are still only 1 token. There are a few of the racing games, basketball, claw, skee ball that require more. Prices on drinks were very reasonable. I did not order any food so can not comment on that other than the pizza looked good but they only sell them as a

The pizza place inside makes really good food. Nothing i tried was bad. Bartenders are nice but act like they hate it there and games break down often but that's normal for all arcades

This place was great! We were there for a reception and it was a wonderful surprise! They are a pizzeria, loved their pizza as they had my vegan cheese! They have a large arcade with many older favorites, lots of pinball, dance dance and too many to mention! And last but not least they have full bars available! Everyone had a great time! Highly recommend!

Super fun arcade and brewery. Staff is very kind. You must get the pickle pizza!!! Super delicious!

This place was so much fun! Lots of retro games. Loved the guitar hero and dance dance. I only spent $20 for coins and had a few hours of fun.

Wonderful place if your looking for good vibes good pub-style food good service and good beer. If your visiting greensboro like I was and like Irish pubs I would highly recommend.

This place is amazing. We had our work Christmas Party here. Lots of different games. Had a blast playing skee ball and air hockey. Can't wait to go back again.

Nice place and maybe it would have been better on a non busy night but several things rubbed me the wrong way. First, while collecting the tokens from a. Arcade, the attendant( or whatever you called them threw my drink from, still almost full, away without checking to see if it was mine, I was 2 ft away playing a shooting, still in arm reach. I do appreciate them trying to keep the place clean though. Second thing was later tonight when I jump in on an arcade game. There were 2 people playing, they were b

What a fun place to hang out and relive the past! I haven't seen these arcade games in n decades! Great place to meet your friends for a drink and some fun! ??

Great variety of arcade games! Staff was attentive and the place offers a space to sit and hang out, great atmosphere and allows for adults to have fun! ??

Decent place. OK pizza. Lots of games. Pretty crowded though.

Definitely a different ?gaming? experience for my 8 year old iPad baby. I won't bring him back though since I didn't realize that it was as much ?bar? as it was arcade. But, I'm sure this is a great spot for the young adult crowd just looking to hangout & chill. A good addition to the Downtown Greensboro activities.

Great deck to just grab a drink and hang out. Great event space.

1st time in Greensboro and found this place. Great atmosphere and being from NYc everything is greatly priced! Great beer. Great pizza. Great Fun. Definitely coming back

I had the privilege of hosting a welcome party at Boxcar the night before our wedding and WOW did we have an amazing time!!! The atmosphere, service and food were all incredible, but the highlight was how effortless and accommodating Ripley made the process. Whether it was menu adjustments, signature drinks, or asking another ten thousand questions, Ripley?s responsiveness made the entire planning process a BREEZE. The private room was also beautiful and I highly recommend the space for any private events!!

Chill atmosphere, and there's a great balanced selection of retro games and more modern ones. I appreciate that the staff takes extra measures to make sure everyone is having a good time while feeling completely safe and comfortable. Food is pretty much what you can expect from an arcade, but that's not a bad thing when you just want to grab a quick bite. Overall, it's a great place to go for a fun evening.

Nostalgic great place to meet friends and talk and play games. Get some pizza, youre set.

Came here for Margarita Day Special. Most staffs weren't even aware of promotions, and didn't get promotions honored.

Boxcar is a wonderful place to enjoy an evening with friends and family. Kid and dog friendly so feel free to bring the family. Many good options with nearby restaurants and food trucks are on site most nights. Coolest place to have a beer in Greensboro.

Held a private event at Boxcar. The staff was very attentive and accommodated our every need. Good food. Great private party area. Fun games.

Great place. Has a low key, family atmosphere during the day. 21+ after 9pm. Plenty of pinball and video game options for any taste. Great beer selection, outdoor patio and the popcorn flows for free.

This place was a real find - friendly, fun and active. I went with my son (28) and daughter (32) and it was a great time for all of us. After looking around there for a while I thought this would be a nice place for an evening date, too. We ordered a pizza and it was really tasty. All three of us couldn't believe how good it was. The bartenders were also spot on. They were patient, knowledgeable, and good at making drinks and offering drink suggestions. Definitely going back:)

Many games to play, place was clean, good music ,and really yummy pizza!! Super Kool spot!

Had a Sunday morning yoga class and it was amazing! Definitely returning for another!

I didn't get food or drinks but we had a blast playing all of the games especially the throwbacks

Bartenders and staff were super friendly and we love hanging out there when we are downtown.

This is such a fun place to go! I love visiting during the weekdays when it's less crowded. They have fun old school games to play like pinballs, arcade machines, skeet ball, etc. The selection is drinks is really good and recently they added an in-house pizzeria to make fresh food although I didn't try it, it smelled amazing (definitely will check it out during our next visit). Go visit this place ASAP!

Great place to come and hang out! The arcade games are great, there is a wide selection of drinks, and they always have great specials!

Nostalgic and pretty cool for an adult to be able to have an adult beverage and reminisce about the good old days of joystick games and wasted Saturday afternoons. We had family visiting from out of town who has 4 x the kids and thought this would be a great place to take them as well as have an adult beverage or two to calm the nerves. We had a great time and I enjoyed sitting on the patio watching people walk by and enjoy when the local scenery and beers. However I'm only giving this 4 Stars because this

A very good experience to enjoy with friends. Has a pizza food truck, good bar selection and many old school arcades to choose from. If you like live music, they also entertain that as well.

I've only ever had the pizza, and played the games and let me tell you the pizza is literally the best I've ever had! The sauce is amazing the mozzarella is really high quality and the ratio of everything is great which makes for a really great pizza! The games are fun too and they have plenty of drinks to offer!

Our waitress Khadijah was amazing, and she was very nice. It was our first time coming and it won't be our last had a blast!!

so fun! the drinks are pretty good too, but they definitely aren't the strongest. this is a bar for people who don't like bars

This place is top notch! We lost a purse tonight and the head of security and manager took their time on a busy Saturday night to review video footage. Great atmosphere and fun games and the nicest staff!

Josh was such a helpful and kind person on the staff! Made all the difference for a fun night for our family ??

The games are great and the staff is amazing, but some recent changes have made me rate this 2 stars. They stopped opening tabs which is really rare for a downtown bar, and also a huge headache on busy nights when it takes everyone longer to pay for each individual drink. Also they moved the touchscreen to pay behind the bar and you have to reach over the entire bar and often other people's drinks in order to pay. Honestly these changes don't really make sense and it just makes the experience a little more

Love this place. Pizza is good and service at the bar is fast even with the large crowds. Super loud music but that's the vibe of Boxcar with all the games and good music choices. Have fun here every time I go!

Great environment of old school games! Food was okay. Nothing to brag about.

amazing bar !! love a good gamer bar AND there's pizza

Very cool arcade and bar downtown. They have tons of pinball, skeeball, racing, shooting, foosball, and air hockey games not to mention a fully stocked bar with liquor and beer. They also have a new ?? pizza truck outside with great wood-fired pizzas and they also have a ? handicap accessible parking, entrances, and restrooms.

Really fun little arcade tucked away in Greensboro. Wasn't too busy when we went so we didn't wait to play any games or anything like that. Drink prices were pretty fair. I'd only complain that I wish they had more games, but it was still fun.

I still don't understand the attack on ice coffee. I literally just purchased one from a local spot then kids wanted pizza and arcade. I missed where iced coffee was sold at boxcar. It's not like competition? I would not forgo my iced coffee and be like guess I'll just get a beer. So I stood outside while kids ate inside. Absolutely ridiculous. Also parking lot behind boxcar is $10 whether there for 2 min or 2 hours.

Always a good time. Make sure to check out the back room with the 4-player pac man, skeeball, and air hockey tables. Edit: my brother got married here last weekend. They have a special event room and an adorable brick & ivy courtyard beyond that make this the perfect spot for a cute yet lowkey & affordable wedding venue.

Their event for 4/19 was a total scam and misleading. I would not recommend this place of business

A fun place for the family during the day. I'm glad we have a fun arcade for everyone to enjoy! My kid loves this place and we're always happy to take him there. Pizza is good and I like all the renovations they've made.

My only complaint would be that it's a few arcade games that do not work. But besides that, fair drink prices. I have not tried the pizzas, but it looks ??. Great places to take the kid during the daylight hours to get a drink and also to spend some time with them in a fun space.

12:32 A.M. | Sun 13th. I'm sorry but right by the second exit, I saw a security fighting with a guy to take over his hand gun. And how on earth did a guy get in to a point of the second exit with a hand gun??? Had my group of friends witnessing it happen right in front of them and told them we had to go. Others left too. Security gotta do a better job especially how accessible guns are in this society ????

Boxcar is always a fun time. It's a great way to spend a couple hours. It's always clean and the bartenders are nice. Miss the popcorn machine though!

Frequently Asked Questions

What’s it like visiting an arcade today?

It’s a mix of nostalgia and high-energy fun! Many arcades blend retro classics like Pac-Man and pinball with modern VR games, racing simulators, and rhythm challenges — often with music, lights, and a social vibe.

Is it better to go alone or with friends?

Both can be great! Solo visits let you focus on your favorite games, while going with friends adds competition, teamwork, and laughs. Many people plan arcade meetups as a casual hangout or even date spot.

What should I bring to an arcade?

Usually just yourself and a way to pay (some arcades still use coins, others use cards or apps). If you're competitive, bring your A-game. If you're social, bring friends or meet new ones over multiplayer games.

What’s the best time to visit an arcade?

Weekdays or early afternoons are usually less crowded — perfect for focused play. Evenings and weekends bring the buzz, especially at barcades or venues with DJs, tournaments, or themed nights.

Can I meet new people at arcades?

Absolutely! Arcades attract a mix of casual players and serious gamers. Whether you're jumping into a four-player co-op or chatting between rounds, it's a fun, low-pressure way to connect over shared interests.

Are arcades still just for kids?

Not at all. While many arcades are family-friendly, there are also adult-oriented ones with full bars, 18+ nights, or vintage nostalgia themes. Arcades today cater to everyone — from first-timers to lifelong gamers.

Are there events or tournaments I can join?

Yes! Many arcades host regular competitions, retro nights, cosplay parties, and more. Whether you're into high scores or just want to watch and vibe, events add an extra layer to the experience.

What if I’m not great at arcade games?

No worries — arcades are about having fun, not being perfect. Try a variety of games, ask others for tips, and remember: the vibe is more “let’s play” than “let’s win.”

Are pinball tables still good in this modern age?

Yes, pinball tables in arcades remain a blast. Their hands-on, skill-driven gameplay delivers a thrill digital games can’t match, blending nostalgia with modern flair. Newer tables from Stern and Jersey Jack feature LCD screens and themes like Avengers or Stranger Things, keeping things exciting. Arcades are seeing a pinball resurgence with vibrant scenes and tournaments like IFPA events drawing crowds. Though less common than video games, pinball’s tactile charm and community vibe make it a standout arcade experience in 2025.

Are retro games in arcades still good in this modern age?

Absolutely, retro games in arcades remain a thrilling draw in 2025! Classics like Pac-Man, Space Invaders, and Street Fighter II offer simple yet addictive gameplay, blending nostalgia with timeless challenge. Modern arcade cabinets often feature crisp displays and restored controls, enhancing the experience. These games thrive on quick reflexes and strategy, with vibrant pixel art and iconic soundtracks that spark joy. Arcades host tournaments and leaderboards, fostering a lively community. While modern games dominate, retro titles provide a unique, accessible thrill that keeps arcades buzzing.

Why are arcade prize games so exciting to play?

Arcade prize games are a thrilling highlight in 2025! Claw machines, skee-ball, and ticket-redemption games like basketball offer a rush of skill and chance, with rewards like plushies, toys, or electronics up for grabs. Modern machines feature vibrant lights, digital scoreboards, and responsive controls, amplifying the fun. The lively arcade atmosphere, with cheering crowds and buzzing energy, makes every win feel epic.
