Customer Reviews

This bowling alley is a hidden gem! The staff was friendly, helpful, and very accommodating for our party of 21. I loved that they offer Special Needs & Low Sensory Hours every Wednesday from 4-6p. This feature alone makes them stand out from other bowling alleys. The bar staff was friendly and the live band was an added bonus. We had an awesome experience. The parking lot is s bit small for the space and it's not truly wheelchair accessible as their bathrooms had stairs. The food was mainly chips and pizz

Online booking system made it Extremely easy to plan a last minute birthday get together. I booked two lanes for a Saturday afternoon 2 weeks out all through the website - they had an FaQ that covered all questions I had about what was available and/or allowable at the location. I received a confirmation and reminder texts about the upcoming event and was allowed cancellation up to two days prior. I would describe this as a boutique bowling alley, because it's small and uniquely decorated in a retro style

What a fantastic place, great vibe, great staff, music was amazing. Just all around a great place. The bathrooms are amazing

Great atmosphere and live the retro vibes. -1 star due to the establishment having terrible parking (parking lot is built insanely weird; can't circle around, only one way in/out)

We stopped by for a pop-up tiki bar for Valentines Day, and we weren't disappointed. We tried all three cocktails, and all were excellent. The bowling alley looked great, and the retro decor is awesome. Even the mens bathroom looked great. Straight out of 70s or 80s. The counter where you rent shoes, pay, etc. was HUGE and also looked really cool. I'm glad we came here. We'll be back as this place is fun

there was an issue the day I went with my bf. Thankfully we were given a full refund & 1 hours of free bowling. While we were there the staff was friendly. We did have issues with our lane (6) with the pins not resetting and then not counting our scores. Overall still had fun & would return in the future.

Great staff and atmosphere! DEATH CAT loves this place!

Was looking for bowling alley that was different. Found this location online. Checked it out...it was small but Wonderful. It was clean, and the staff was great. I checked out the lounge and the bartender was very knowledgeable about the drinks. I didn't bowl, but relaxed and had a g?od time. Will definitely be back.

This place is horrible. Not only are the prices ridiculous, they have bad customer service, they discriminate against people of color. Me and my friend waited and waited for a bartender, we even said hello they would walk right past us and tend to other customers as if we were invisible. I even asked the security could he get their attention he said they ignore him too (he's African American also.) so at this point I just left my cash for my beer on the bar and my date left.

We come here pretty regularly and have fun. The pizza they serve is from Tania?s and it's very good. The staff at the bar are friendly as well as the staff at the check in counter. Some of the patrons are a bit much. Hovering over you to finish your game and even entering the play area when our time isn't even up yet. Chill out and let my kid finish the game.

It's a fun place to go. Always packed and busy over the weekends. Luckily was able to bowl here last Wednesday. The stuff is really welcoming and cool. We had a baby with us, the staff ended up giving the baby cute onesie Bowlero merchandise. Next time we go the baby is definitely going to wear the onesie. Haha

Bowlero is updated and similar in pricing to other bowling alleys. They have a good size parking lot on North and South side of the building. Shoes are $3/pp and bowling price depends on how long you want to bowl. They also have a bar area with live music tucked away that has windows overlooking the bowling alley. Drinks are fairly priced and the bar is a cool hangout spot even if you aren't bowling. However my biggest complaint is the DJ music on the weekend is WAY too loud. It's not a club so I'm not sur

Took my daughter here for her birthday and it was amazing it was esthetically pleasing the staff was super nice wish they served more than pizza but besides that it was great and my daughter had a good time.

Top notch experience! We hosted our son?s birthday party here and everyone had a blast. From the very start the staff was responsive and helpful with planning. When we arrived day of they were patient and kind with the kids and parents. They went above and beyond by offering our birthday boy a bowling pin, which all the kids got to sign.?Every person we came into contact with was helpful and nice! We will for sure be back

We were here for a kid's 6th birthday party. There was another party at the same time and they really managed to minimize the chaos. The lounge was perfect for pizza/cake/presents. The whole space has such a fun vibe - the girls loved it! As for the bowling part - we had a bunch of first timers in our group. They made sure we had bumpers on all the lanes and there were ball ramps for the girls who wanted them. All of the staff was very patient and understanding -- especially the very nice guy who had to r

All star ratings are for the bathroom, not the establishment. I simultaneously love and hate this bathroom. I love that it's down the stairs, has a cool design, an arcade game, and a sitting area. I hate that it's downstairs, has a sitting area and an arcade game. I'm not sure why that big room is left open like that, and arcade games already have enough germs on them. The actual bathroom is pretty standard. 2 of everything. It's a little dirty and wet, and the stalls were super small. There isn't a

Love it! So Thankful for the Consistent, Quality and Variety of Live Music!! AND Friendly Staff and Vibe!

I LOVE the vibe here! This is such a good throwback place, but in a realistic fashion. The bar area is so unique and I love the vibe the bartenders bring! The prices are not bad for the amount of options you also have.

Do you love bowling? Do you love drinks at reasonable prices from a fun and attentive staff? If your answers were yes, let me introduce you to Bowlero. This place? The best.

I came here with my bf because we received a coupon for free 1 hour bowling. I love the vintage decor, I felt like I stepped into a Time Machine! The staff were really friendly too.

Staff was friendly and helpful. Price for bowling was per hour, a bit expensive. Still good shape and clean. A great place to kill time or celebrate

Kelly the owner is very friendly and nice. Jess the bartender is awesome and so competent. The front desk are very accommodating. All together it's the best.

The new owners have done a fantastic job of preserving the building while adding modern technology and retro chic design. The 70's style permeates throughout, but is classy not kitschy. We had fun bowling on a Wednesday night while a DJ spun some old pop, r&b, and soul. There was a bit of a problem with the ball retrieving mechanism on our lane but the staff promptly attended to it and gave us more time for our troubles. They were courteous and apologetic. It's brand new so they are still working out so

I love the reservation feature it just sucks if you have last mins friends ?????? I'd definitely be back with a smaller group maybe just a date Night with the husband oh yea and they had live music when I was there that was dope as well

Came here for a work party. The staff was really nice and helpful. The lane we were on kept having issues but the staff was quick to fix it. The ladies restroom is so cute and very pink and fully equipped with Aqua Net hair spray. Fun place!

This place is trash now. Used to love it. The staff themselves are great which is why we always went but they hired an outside security company that thinks it's okay to follow a person into the parking lot and pull a gun and cock it on someone. This dude was on a power trip the entire time hawking our group and running up on us for every thing we were doing when we were just trying to enjoy a birthday for our friend. I even went up to the desk before this happened to let the lady know he was making us very

Oh my gosh, we had so much fun! The bar drinks were great. The lanes were perfectly groomed. The atmosphere was fun and all of the staff were helpful and kind.

used to love coming to this bowling alley and have always been treated with kindness and respect. but tonight, 12/10/24, was the complete opposite. was greeted with a security guard checking our ID's which was weird for this place but we complied. we brought our drinks to the booth, telling us that we needed to keep them off the bowling floor, which has never been an issue for us. but we still understood and listened. we hid behind the booths at one point as part of the surprise for our friends birthday, w

Everything was good: drinks, bowling, service, etc, BUT the music was way too loud This is the 2nd time it's been like this, sometimes to the point of saturating the speakers. Please just turn it down a little

Was searching for reviews about the lane conditions before visiting this past weekend and didn't find any reviews with that information. It is unique place that is great for hosting parties and we had a great time. If you're looking to bring your own ball, bring the weakest ball you own! Oil was practically non-existent. Hope this review helps someone in the future.

Great venue with excellent customer service and fun vibes. Parking on either side of building.

This is the best place on earth. All of the staff are absolutely incredible. The vibe is perfect and the lanes rock. There's no place better for live music!

Had a great time, staff was nice. Recommend calling ahead, they get pretty busy. Nice lanes & good vibes

Great lounge with retro vibe! Drink prices were fair with a really good selection of spirits.

A good time... That's what this place is. You may have to wait for a lane, but the bar is cozy and makes waiting not all that bad.

Honestly, Bowlero is one of the very best family-friendly activities during the day! We love that we are local. Our 5 year old son asks to go all the time - such a positive, vibrant, accommodating experience every time! The retro decor is awesome too. Stop by Ray?s next door for an ice cream cone afterwards- this classic ice cream parlor has 50+ flavors to choose from and is open year round.

Bowlero is great! I'm originally from Connecticut and the Royal Oak location is just as great as the one I go to back home! I'll be coming here often while I'm in Michigan!

On September 22, 2024, we had my husband?s retirement party at Bowlero. Everything was perfect. The staff was wonderful and accommodating in every way. They went above and beyond in helping us to make the venue accommodating for everyone and for making the experience amazing. People were so thrilled with the lounge and the bowling accommodations. we brought in food from Tania?s pizzeria, and the food was delicious. For desserts we brought in Rays Ice Cream and Ice Cream cakes and people raved About everyth

The coolest, most retro, fun, awesome spot not just for bowling, but they have great bands in bar area and other events. Love Bowlero!

70s aesthetic done right! Great music even with records! Bathrooms done right with Ms. Pacman, vanities, and Aquanet! However, there were many lane malfunctions and the bowling balls' holes were too small- from someone with small hands- so I can't give it 5 stars.

The lounge is fantastic, the drinks are expertly crafted and the vibe is right on. Trivia night rules!

I headed out to Bowlero on Saturday night in high hopes to have a quick game of bowling. When walking in the lanes were pretty empty and I had it up to the counter to inquire as to how much one game of bowling was. The reply that I got was...well...no reply...she said she wasn't sure and mumbles something. She hauled over her associate to which I was also met with no reply and was met with a 30 to 40 minute wait! "We can write your name down and call you" They didn't ask for my number and scribble something

What a great place, with great clientele. There was great music the night we were there, the beer was cold, it was really cool!

Great staff, always very friendly, not just a place to bowl, but come have drinks and listen to the good live music on the weekends.

I wanted to try a new ball late and this was the only place that closes very late around my area, it's a nice place to hang out and have some drinks but the return chipped my ball and the lane it's not oiled properly.

This was a roughhhhhhhh bowling alley. The bathrooms are not disability friendly at all and look like a scene from a "don't do drugs" commercial in the 80s. No I'm not kidding they are bad, really bad. This place also has some of the worst available parking.

Bowled here on a Saturday and it will be my last time bowling here. Rates are ridiculous for lanes that damage your ball and the lane conditions are a joke. If you want to bowl in an overpriced house with terrible lanes, this is the place for you! It's been over a week, my ball still isn't fixed despite them promising me they'd have it done today (a week after I wanted it done). There is no customer service or sense of urgency to get customers taken care of. Steve told me that when he used to bowl in league

My boyfriend and I chatted it up with Dean and Dave. They are two of the owners. Really nice guys. Dean's wife did a stellar job designing the inside. It's sexy!!!

Security is on a power trip and pulled a gun out for absolutely no reason. Was watching us the entire time before that. I've had good experiences before this so hopefully they get new security!

I had a wonderful time doing karaoke and getting to meet some new people. ??

I know I'm biased because i love the 1970s hippie vibe but this place rocks!! They have live performances so you can support local artists. Bar's prices are great for good liquor and everything is family friendly. Added feature I loved was the "genderless" bathrooms they had in the lounge area. Even if I'm just going there to bowl I'll gladly come back!

Cool atmosphere. Fun vibe. Friendly staff. Great live music in the bar.

Cool renovation from the bathroom to the retro seating to the lounge. Definitely bummed they do not take reservations for one lane so we're stuck waiting three hours to bowl but the live dj, band, and bar helped pass the time.

Great atmosphere, friendly crowd, and looks really cool inside too. My friend and I really enjoyed how good their cocktails were. The staff was super nice.

I've been to lots of bowling alleys, but never to one with this much STYLE. Wow. Every inch is awesome. That lounge! Even the rental shoes were cool as hell. The owners were very friendly and wanted to make sure we were having a good time. Well, we did.

GUNS and APPLEJUICE. Me and a few friends came to celebrate our friends birthday. Security guard at the front door was hovering over us from the second we walked in, we were the only people bowling at the time we arrived. We ordered drinks from the bar, crown apple was weirdly colored and tasted like it was mixed with apple juice. There were drinks added to our tab that wasn't ordered. There was a male and female bartender, the male was tweaking and seemed to be on something. One of the guys in our group wa

Refurbished bowling alley in Detroit like in the good old days with friendly vibes all around. The bar has a good beer selection including a decent pint of Guiness. However, no food apart from your basic potato chips. The bathrooms are indeed impressive. We came to see a band here that had a good gig, so we enjoyed it. You may have problems finding a place to park the car.

This place is so funky and has a wonderfully vintage vibe. They have a no fuss food menu (pizza, chips, pop) and also an attached bar with great bartenders. Ladies, you must visit the bathroom bc it's so cute up there! We came for my brother's s birthday and we will definitely be back. I've seen they have karaoke which I bet at this place is a fun scene.

Always a pleasure to attend shows! No cover. Attended show for another unique and very talented artist Tim Monger and team - violin, trumpet, keyboard, guitars and drums. Genre was folk rock. Bar staff is very attentive! Reasonably priced for a great night out!

Came here for my birthday was a group of friends. We all had a great time. The staff is friendly, the bar is great, the pizza was delicious, and the bowling is a blast. I can't wait to come back!

I really love coming to this bowling alley as it feels as though you are taking a step back in time. They have event nights to include a Big Lebowski night.

Cute place but watch out for those steps. A bit trippy. Enjoyed some bands there recently

Jamie makes a mean deep eddy's vodka tonic. 5 stars, double thumbs up!

Major remodel is fantastic. This is going be a favorite place to come visit and hangout!

Awesome place! A best kept secret! Clean, fun, good drinks and great customer service. A great experience! Will definitely be back. ?? P.S. LOVE the retro look and clean restrooms.

Awesome retro designed bowling alley with one of a kind features like local bands, dj's, pinball, great bowling and spacey cocktails...

We've been here on a date night and had no issues. Today we decided to take our three kids. They told us 30-45 minutes for a lane to open. We waited well over an hour. We would have left and gone someplace else, but every time we checked they would say ?not much longer?. Not worth the wait with small children.

Pretty cool place. Retro but not dingy. Staff was friendly and helpful.

The place is really nice, the bar is popping and the people are cool. The biggest down side is the music. The DJs usually suck so it's only better to go when they aren't spinning. Advise?. Please stop playing soft rock at 10pm and turn the crowd up

Great times to be had! Awesome staff & chill atmosphere

Honestly the best bowling place I've ever been to. They put a bunch of effort into renovating this place and I think it needs to be recognized! The lounge area is a nice touch and was packed with people having a great time... The pinball area was cool, although I wish it was a bit bigger with a few more games. It's venues like this that innovate and turn a passe sport into something hip and fun to do for the next generation. Fantastic place to go on a couple's date. 10/10

Nice bowling alley and bar, but don't come here if you want a fair bowling game. Their system is a joke and resets to fill pins after one roll, doesn't count the score etc.

Bowlero is spectacular. Our high school hosted a wrestling end of the year party there and it could not have been better. The staff was expert at handling our very large and excited group with the ultimate in professionalism and kindness. We had a lot of food delivered for our hungry crew and the staff was super helpful. I highly recommend this establishment for any social event or birthday party. We have already planned our next event there! Enjoy. Megan Khoury

This bowling alley is amazing. Love the bar and the lanes. The playlist is always banging.

RACES OTHER THAN THE MAJORITY NOT RESPECTED!!! I was set to give this place a 5 star until this happened: We came in at 1210 PM. Our 2 lane reservations were for 2 hours. We put our shoes on and sat waiting until 1230 since all our guests weren't there yet. At 1231 we signed in and started putting names. When the other guests arrived they logged in. This was around 1240 but we knew both games would end at 230. For some reason at 211 and about 220 both our times ended. When the first one ended, I went up to

Had a great time. The staff is wonderful

Went with 3 friends on one lane. Our lane took a very long time after each bowl to shuffle the pins behind and reset it. Not compensated at all for wasted time after a worker needed to come over and fix it. Tiny seating area. Good variety of sized bowling balls though. Don't waste your time just go somewhere else.

Not too many lanes very busy Saturday night call in advance

If you love bowling and need a blast from the past then check out Bowlero lanes in Royal Oak. It's a 70s inspired retro-boutique house complete with and old school arcade too. The TVs even had old shows and commercials to help immerse you in the experience.

Great atmosphere! I was so grateful to meet a group of young men from India. We bowled together and had so much fun.

A fun retro bowling alley. The music & lounge round out a fun evening.

Great ambiance, the decor is outstanding! Bartenders & staff are exceptional - friendly & professional. Amazing signature cocktails!

Update: 02/02/2024: The owner finally called and apologized for the what happened. He seems a nice guy and looks like the incident was because of the staff that night. I stand by my review below but I appreciate the business owner call and apology. DISGUSTING AND RUDE. Extremely rude staff, our friends booked a birthday party for their 10 years old boy and paid for 2 hours. First of all, they said they're out of Pizza even though my friend confirmed the day before that they'll have enough. Second, the ?ma

For $40/hr I would have expected a top notch experience. The lanes and pin setting equipment were absolute trash. The lane we were on was always a frame ahead of what we're were bowling. Ended up getting moved to another lane. Second lane we were in constantly wouldn't return the ball, lane was so oily that when the balls did actually return they were so wet. We paid for one hour but realistically only received about 40 minutes worth of bowling. We likely could have been compensated for this, but after o

Absolutely perfect for a quick, enjoyable hour with the family and friends. Friendly, clean and fun.

I want to warn others about the horrible experience we had at this place! Beware, they ruined my son's birthday party and left us feeling humiliated. First, when we booked the bowling lanes, we visited one day before the party to ensure everything was set and to check if we needed to pre-order pizza. We were assured that pre-ordering wasn't necessary. However, the next day, from the moment we stepped in, it was evident that our Middle Eastern background made us unwelcome. The staff were very rude and racist

This negative review is coming from Bowlero regulars. We've played dozens of games at Bowlero, tons of pinball, had birthday parties there, and drank at the bar. Been going there since it reopened after renovations a few years ago. We went in today to get a lane ? no reservation, expecting to wait about 25-30 minutes. No problem ? we expect to wait on a Saturday afternoon. We *thought* we put our name in when the person at the counter told us it would be about 20-25 minutes. We played some pinball. After a

My birthday was a dream come true. Drinks, service, atmosphere, and everything else was far above expectations. 10 stars!!! I will never forget how hospitable and welcoming every single member of staff was to me and my whole party. Thank you for making my January birthday so memorable! (Still raving about you guys almost 5 months later!) You guys really made a girls heart full ??????

Frequently Asked Questions

What’s it like visiting an arcade today?

It’s a mix of nostalgia and high-energy fun! Many arcades blend retro classics like Pac-Man and pinball with modern VR games, racing simulators, and rhythm challenges — often with music, lights, and a social vibe.

Is it better to go alone or with friends?

Both can be great! Solo visits let you focus on your favorite games, while going with friends adds competition, teamwork, and laughs. Many people plan arcade meetups as a casual hangout or even date spot.

What should I bring to an arcade?

Usually just yourself and a way to pay (some arcades still use coins, others use cards or apps). If you're competitive, bring your A-game. If you're social, bring friends or meet new ones over multiplayer games.

What’s the best time to visit an arcade?

Weekdays or early afternoons are usually less crowded — perfect for focused play. Evenings and weekends bring the buzz, especially at barcades or venues with DJs, tournaments, or themed nights.

Can I meet new people at arcades?

Absolutely! Arcades attract a mix of casual players and serious gamers. Whether you're jumping into a four-player co-op or chatting between rounds, it's a fun, low-pressure way to connect over shared interests.

Are arcades still just for kids?

Not at all. While many arcades are family-friendly, there are also adult-oriented ones with full bars, 18+ nights, or vintage nostalgia themes. Arcades today cater to everyone — from first-timers to lifelong gamers.

Are there events or tournaments I can join?

Yes! Many arcades host regular competitions, retro nights, cosplay parties, and more. Whether you're into high scores or just want to watch and vibe, events add an extra layer to the experience.

What if I’m not great at arcade games?

No worries — arcades are about having fun, not being perfect. Try a variety of games, ask others for tips, and remember: the vibe is more “let’s play” than “let’s win.”

Are pinball tables still good in this modern age?

Yes, pinball tables in arcades remain a blast. Their hands-on, skill-driven gameplay delivers a thrill digital games can’t match, blending nostalgia with modern flair. Newer tables from Stern and Jersey Jack feature LCD screens and themes like Avengers or Stranger Things, keeping things exciting. Arcades are seeing a pinball resurgence with vibrant scenes and tournaments like IFPA events drawing crowds. Though less common than video games, pinball’s tactile charm and community vibe make it a standout arcade experience in 2025.
