Bier and Loathing

Bier and Loathing

Reviews Summary

The reviews show a mixed consensus. Many praise the nostalgic arcade atmosphere, good food (especially cheesesteaks and nachos), and friendly staff. However, frequent complaints highlight broken or malfunctioning games, which significantly dampen the experience. Some find the space too small or loud, while others appreciate the kid-friendly hours and reasonable prices. Service is generally good, though a few note issues with seating or quarters for games. The overall vibe is fun and unique, but maintenance and game functionality need improvement to match the positive aspects.

Customer Reviews

I've been there twice since it's opened. It's great to have an Arcade / Bar in West Chester. Kinda brings back memories of hanging out in an arcade as a kid, but now with the added benefit of adult beverages and good food. I was there on a Friday night, and they had a talented DJ which just added to the good times. Also, they serve a kick ass cheesesteak which is kind of unexpected for this type of place. I brought my wife and 2 adult kids, and everyone had a blast.

Atmosphere is very comfortable, really gives the vibes of an arcade from the 90?s! Staff are incredibly nice, and the food is very delicious! I had the Super Smash Brothers Burger, and it was so delicious! They really know what they're Doing in terms of food. I highly recommend coming here whenever you're in town.

So excited to have an arcade bar in town. Bier and Loathing lived up to my expectations. They have lines to order drinks and food which made things less overwhelming to try to find space at the bar on a busy Friday night. We had so much fun playing nostalgic games from our childhood. There were exciting food and cocktail options. I really enjoyed the blue Hawaiian drink and the grilled cheese was out of this world. Looking forward to next time. Hoping for more pinball machines someday!

Took my son here to play pool- there were two tables and a few arcade games on the lower level. It was great, It wasn't busy when we went (Thurs eve) so we were able to get a few games in (FREE). Then we played quakes and a few pinball machines. It would be cool if they hosted some events or a pool league, for young adults- my son felt comfortable and relaxed here. He doesn't like loud bars, this place fit the bill- The bartender did say they host karaoke on the weekends, and that it gets loud during those

I'm so happy this place exists! Such a new unique vibe added to town. The beer prices are unbeatable and the food options are great. Love the retro games and a majority of them are only 25? to play (some of them didn't work but for 25? I didn't even care). The kid friendly aspect is a huge plus for me being a mom in my 20s and still getting the chance to go out and have fun but not have to leave my boy at home. Will definitely be back again soon!!

The space is too small and for a glut of 'meh' games that ruin foot traffic. Basement is kind of a joke afterthought, giant Jenga or darts could help. Beer selection is pretty dang good and prices are fine, bar fare food that's solid. Knowing stand up arcade and pinball machines are slim pickin's, I recommend doubling down on Switch, games and controllers for pay to play and getting 2. You got 4 tv's bruh. When they're available and the Switch has paid off, focus on some Capcom fighters, classics, light gun

Kid friendly but a few tips. We came in on a Sunday with another family shortly after noon. This is probably a good time to come in before it gets busy. Our kids collectively ranged from age 4-12 and they found plenty to keep them busy while they waited for their meals. Both the bar and the kitchen staff were exceptionally friendly, hospitable, and accommodating. Special recognition to the bartender Tia (?sp) and her colleagues. Just a heads up when ordering from the kid's menu - you may want to ask the k

Had a team work night here. The drinks were great the food was surprisingly one of the best cheesesteaks I've had in west Chester. The vibe is great in here with lots of arcade games and super smash bros behind the bar. Highly recommend this place!

Went here for lunch and I was pleasantly surprised. Food was good. Ample TVs. Great local beverage selection. Good service. I can totally see this being a daily lunch spot. I would love to see lunch specials or deals to corner the lunch crowd in West Chester.

Ok, so the first time I checked out this place, the food was ok, a couple of the machines were not working well like the simpsons, one of the joy stick were broken. Beer was good. The food did come out fast, even though it was busy as hell. I would probably go again some time in the future

Sure they have arcades, but do any of them work? Most coin slots were jamed up and stuck. They had the turtles arcade, but Don was broken. They had the Simpsons, but Homer's jump button didnt work. The terminator shooter, both coin slots broken. They need to upkeep their equipment.

Third time here and the place has a nice crowd, amazing music, great games, excellent food at a nice price. Employees are always very helpful and pleasant. Atmosphere: They nailed it. Awesome pinball and cool arcade games

Please take all of this as constructive criticism, definitely not meant to be harsh or mean-spirited. The food was good, the drinks were good, the service was good, but the main reason we chose this bar was to have a few and play some old school games. Maybe it was the day of the week, maybe it's me being old, but the overly loud Karaoke music with no one participating overshadowed the game play. If there had been people participating in the Karaoke, maybe that would have made a difference as it would hav

We stopped in to check out this new place and to play some arcade games. You've never heard of 75% of the games they have. The others, all your favorites, are broken in some fashion. They either don't take coins in the slots needed for specific characters (The Simpsons, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, etc) or the joysticks or buttons are broken. Big Buck Hunter was missing a gun. It's all very janky. Then we tried playing shuffleboard but one of the pucks was missing. It's doubtful we'll go back because they

We had a drink and played pool and left. Most of the other games were broken. The ones that weren't had people on them. Not many options in the first place but it really kills the vibe to walk around a bunch of machines that will eat your quarter if you dare to try to use it.

A lot of the games do not function properly. Lost probably $2+ worth of quarters to machines eating quarters. Saw a lot of people having similar issues. Several multiplayer titles only had one or two spots that worked. Not a huge selection either. Beer list was pretty good. Probably won't be back. Edited to lower my rating after the super mature owner response ??

I was surprised and thrilled by the selection of games! The crew working was wonderful and such a joy to chat with! I'm happy to come back anytime for the drinks or the fun atmosphere. A must visit in WC! Sexy crew they got there

This is the joint. Retro games from our childhoods, killer beer tap list as in all their spots, great handheld food...just what West Chester needed. Check it out, you won't be disappointed

Place has potential but has lots of kinks to work out. Food was decent. Had the sliders and boneless wings. Service needs some work. Staff was okay considering what they had to work with. They ran out of quarters for the arcades (yes, you need quarters to play. No one time fee for unlimited played). Limited seating options to eat. Change machine was out of service. No kids after 7. Also some arcades did not work (Smash TV didn't work) Worst was I had my cup of quarters taken from table while paying my ta

Be careful as most games were broken or not in use. I did not try food. Good concept but I wish all the games were operational and they displayed a listing on their website.

we were not fans. we walked in and couldn't hear our selves thinking because the metal music they has on was blaring. their menu was small and the items had codenames, which were not easy to read. their were also some weird people there so we just got up and left.

Several obscure games but there are enough of the classics to keep it relevant. Fun for the whole family. Don't forget to check out the basement...feels (and smells?) like college.

I went to this place with a few of my friends for a night out and play some games; most of the games there were broken. We were all very disappointed, so we ordered some food and it was terrible.

Such a fun spot loved the beer selection and all the fun games. The nachos were delicious

The staff went above and beyond to provide extra game credits to make up for machine not taking money!

Very fun arcade games. Had a great time on big buck hunter.

Very disappointed with the food. Came put cold and under cooked.

walked in, owners breathe reeked of something foul, left.

They sucked horribly.

This place is awesome

Frequently Asked Questions

What’s it like visiting an arcade today?

It’s a mix of nostalgia and high-energy fun! Many arcades blend retro classics like Pac-Man and pinball with modern VR games, racing simulators, and rhythm challenges — often with music, lights, and a social vibe.

Is it better to go alone or with friends?

Both can be great! Solo visits let you focus on your favorite games, while going with friends adds competition, teamwork, and laughs. Many people plan arcade meetups as a casual hangout or even date spot.

What should I bring to an arcade?

Usually just yourself and a way to pay (some arcades still use coins, others use cards or apps). If you're competitive, bring your A-game. If you're social, bring friends or meet new ones over multiplayer games.

What’s the best time to visit an arcade?

Weekdays or early afternoons are usually less crowded — perfect for focused play. Evenings and weekends bring the buzz, especially at barcades or venues with DJs, tournaments, or themed nights.

Can I meet new people at arcades?

Absolutely! Arcades attract a mix of casual players and serious gamers. Whether you're jumping into a four-player co-op or chatting between rounds, it's a fun, low-pressure way to connect over shared interests.

Are arcades still just for kids?

Not at all. While many arcades are family-friendly, there are also adult-oriented ones with full bars, 18+ nights, or vintage nostalgia themes. Arcades today cater to everyone — from first-timers to lifelong gamers.

Are there events or tournaments I can join?

Yes! Many arcades host regular competitions, retro nights, cosplay parties, and more. Whether you're into high scores or just want to watch and vibe, events add an extra layer to the experience.

What if I’m not great at arcade games?

No worries — arcades are about having fun, not being perfect. Try a variety of games, ask others for tips, and remember: the vibe is more “let’s play” than “let’s win.”
