On a random road trip from NY and decided to stop in Bristol, VA for dinner. Found the Axe and Ale House and will tell you the food was amazing. Cuban sandwich, the smoked pork was phenomenal and I had the chicken nachos, with smoked and juicy chicken. The service was awesome and our bartender Dominick was attentive, knowledgeable and an absolute pleasure to chat with. Even the local regulars were a delight, place felt like home. Highly recommend! (Picture of nachos is after I ate about half, serving size w

Came to this restaurant yesterday for the 1st time thinking it would be a nice place to try. Boy were we wrong!! Arrived and got immediately seated. The gentlemen that was taking care of us was very nice. Got our drinks while we looked at the menu. I ordered the cheese quesadilla with sweet potato fries. My friend had the club sandwich with waffle fries. My quesadilla was severely overcooked to where the cheese was rubber(NO JOKE). I waited until someone came to check on us. A young male came over and I ask

Cute building. Service could be a little bit more outgoing. We ordered buffalo chicken dip and two meatloaf dinners. Meatloaf was super dry like eating peanut butter and hard to swallow and the potato tasted strange. Which led us to believe they were frozen and thawed out. Definitely did not taste fresh. W tried to eat it. Green beans were good. Chicken dip was great though. Checks are given without itemizing what you got so you have to pay attention to that to calculate.

The axe-throwing was Great, nice customer service, if you plan to have a family gather or group activities It's a great place for groups, and the staff made sure we knew all the safety and the best way to throw the Axes. it's good place for food, drinks, and fun. I will definitely go back if I am in town. Also, they have Country band that play sometimes on the week, I don't knoww their specific schedule.

This is the best bar I've ever been to. They've got an arcade. They've got ax throwing. They've got a stage, that when I was there, had a stand-up comedian. The staff is very friendly and the atmosphere is comfortable and casual. The food is shockingly delicious! I can't tell you how absolutely blown away I was at how truly delicious the food was. The staff was quick, friendly and made mine and my friends time there truly enjoyable. The prices are very reasonable. I have no complaints about the prices. If y

This was our first visit to Axe and Ale. We visited for the Valentine's special. FOOD The food was awesome. I had the white pizza made with the smoked chicken and it was very good. I was drinking vodka lemonade with fresh strawberries. They were very good, not weak and watered down but not overwhelming in vodka either. I appreciate the simple 1 page menu, and I forgot to snap a picture if it. SERVICE I can't express how welcoming, helpful and friendly every single employee there was. We didn't seem to ha

Super fun place, very family friendly and full of stuff to do! Cheddar rounds are to die for, the staff is wonderfully polite and kind, food and drinks are solid. Axes are sharp, arcade games are $1, and the decor is fun! Try it.

Axe and Ale is our new place! I wish I could give them 10 stars! The staff, the food, the entire vibe is fabulous! We just went to Trivia night on Thursday and had a blast! ?? If you want to have a large time with great food and some of the best people then this is the place for you! We will save ya a seat! ??

First time ax throwing went with the company had a great time , if your ever in the area you need to stop in and enjoy the food and the ax throwing, it was a blast

Stopped in for some axe throwing and had a blast. We loved the different game options with the axe throwing. Everyone was very friendly and helpful. Highly recommend stopping in for a fun time.

An amazing place. Great food, and great people. Despite being open for only about 2 years, this place seems like it's been open for WAY longer. Great place for a bite, and a drink, too! I hope this place stays around for a long time.

This is absolutely tons of fun. Great food and drinks. The staff are very friendly, knowledgeable, and pretty cool. The renovated building is open, a mix of old and new construction. Glad to see they kept the bones of the building. The axe throwing is a must, and so much fun.

Axe and Ale House is an awesome spot! The atmosphere is lively with a great mix of rustic and modern vibes. The staff is super friendly and attentive, making sure we had everything we needed. The food was amazing?plenty of tasty options and everything was cooked perfectly. I also loved the drink selection. The axe-throwing was awesome! It's a great activity for groups, and the staff made sure we knew what we were doing. Overall, it's a fantastic place for food, drinks, and fun. Definitely coming back!

Great food and excellent service. Fun times with friends. Highly recommend.

Absolutely wonderful spot! Food came out quick. We walked into a free bingo night and got to win some prizes. The axe throwing is well taken care of and kept safe. The projector is great for keeping score and playing different axe games. And the staff was super friendly and helpful! Highly recommend!

This place is fantastic. We were just passing through on a road trip toward Maryland, and I'm glad we stopped here for dinner. I had a Ceaser?s salad, which might seem easy to make but believe me I've had places screw out up. The chicken on It was bangin?. My man had a Cuban sandwich and he loved it. The atmosphere here WA?s fun and popping. The music was fun mix and I sang along with most everything. I did not throw an ax but the groups of people here seemed to have a blast. The bartender Dominique was so

I've been to Axe & Ale several times and it's always a blast. The food is amazing - I dig those sweet potatoes fries! The staff is fantastic at helping newcomers figure out their style of throwing with the axes and are very attentive. The whole place has a very relaxed atmosphere. I've greatly enjoyed having this place in our small town.

We made reservations and stopped in for some dinner and to check the place out. The exterior and interior look great. Several arcade games for the kids to enjoy. The axe throwing area looked fantastic and we can't wait to return to try it out. We had Brian for our waiter and he was very friendly and stopped in to check on us several times. We ordered the Ale House sampler to start out. Everything included was delicious, but the beer cheese and pretzel was phenomenal. We ordered two different sandwiches. The

Recently got to visit for the first time with my wife and group of her coworkers and spouses. Great time had by all! Food was delicious, drinks mixed as expected and fun for all Axe throwing! Highly recommend for a good time!

It really is a great place to eat?play?drink! We enjoyed a delicious meal, good conversation and games. If you're not sure what to get, trust me on this, order the Smokey Bird. Then, forget your diet and order the Waffle S?more.

Very nice place with plenty of good options on the menu. They had activities scheduled different days or you can do axe throwing and other games in the bar area anytime. Great place to schedule group activities or go to watch games.

My little family and I ate here over the weekend. We were greeted by a very sweet older gentlemen who showed us around. We really liked him. The place is kid friendly with games and music that was not inappropriate. There isn't a lot of games, but more than enough to keep your child happy. We ordered our son the cheese pizza. The pizza was good, but it came out barely warm and somewhat undercooked. I hate cold or barely warm pizza. The cheese should have been pulling apart or at least hot in any shape or f

Absolutely love this place, food and staff are always amazing. Food is always fresh and made exactly how you want it, they keep refills coming you never have to ask. Me and my hubby love going. (Also a great place to watch football games) Highly recommend going.

Stopped in for breakfast and a bloody mary. Had the biscuits & gravy which were excellent and large portions. Very nice bartender and place has a good vibe.

Hospitality was stellar, very welcoming and always checked on the table however the food was just average at best.

John was very helpful and informative. Love this place we will be back !

This place is awesome! Staff and owner are great! Great service, great food and beer selection. Room in the back area for parties and music as well! So glad this place is in Bristol!

What a fantastic event venue! There is so much to do, and the food is amazing. I had a great time; the wings are the best in Bristol!

Never been to this establishment, but I've heard nothing but great things about it! The owner , who I had the honor of serving with in the military, brings the same dedication, discipline and sense of community to his business that he did to his service. If it's anything like his character, I'm sure the food, atmosphere and service are top notch. I highly recommend supporting this local spot- whether you're in the area or just looking for a great new place to check out. Can't wait to visit next time I'm in

I've been to several axe-throwing places, but nothing compares to Axe and Ale! My family and I have celebrated multiple milestones here, including my sister's 50th birthday and my own, and every time we've been blown away by the amazing hospitality, great food, and exciting atmosphere. What really sets Axe and Ale apart is the axe-throwing experience itself. Instead of just throwing at the same static target, they offer a variety of interactive projections and games to keep things fun and engaging. It kee

absolutely love this place so much every time we come the food is amazing and every memeber of staff are above and beyond friendly. Its by far one of my favorite places in bristol.

Love this place!! We had so much fun throwing axes and hanging out with friends. The staff are friendly and provided great service. The food is also very good!

Great food & service. The place has such a good vibe and is great for a family dinner, date night, or a party! One of the best restaurants in the Tri Cities by far!

Food was really good. Good selection of things to order and very reasonable pricing. Standard pub selections. But, really done well. The staff was excellent. When we wanted to throw axes after eating they were really friendly and helpful getting us started, and showing us how to do it. If you have never thrown axes before but thought it looked fun. Go there and let them get you started.

First time here and will definitely come back. The food was so good. Had the white chicken pizza and it was the softest crust I've ever had. Great atmosphere for fun or just to chill.

Our party of 10 had a variety of different items off the menu and nobody was disappointed. Large portions that we took plenty home for supper. Server was very knowledgeable and kind to our party. Great atmosphere for everyone in the family. The kids took full advantage of the arcade while the food was being prepared. I highly recommend them and we will be back again.

I travel all over the USA If I am within 100 miles of the Axe &Ale I am staying to eat . Would sleep in the place but they say I need to stay in hotel next door. Best Place in SW VA and NE TN for fun!.

Amazing food and great beer selection! Really fun place to go with a group! They have hosted several of our fraternity alumni gatherings and its always a good time!

Amazing staff! Amazing food! The chocolate covered almonds on the charcuterie board were insane. Great stop on a long journey. We definitely went in the wrong entrance, sign pointing to the area with the bar on the side door would be great!

If you are looking for great atmosphere with some killer food to go with, you need to check this place out. FYI the all former and current service members make sure to bring a patch for the patch wall. Great place for family and friends!

Axe and Ale not only has the best axe throwing lanes and out of this world food and drinks, but an AMAZING staff! LJ and his crew work so hard every single day to make sure anyone that walks in the door has a great experience and leaves with a smile on their face. Do yourself a favor and check them out!!

Have been multiple times, the staff is friendly, the food is good and comes out fast, and they have a lot of games and axes. If you are looking for something for a few friends or a group, they'll take care of you well

We were just passing through and stumbled upon this place. Very laid back and had some cool looking axe throwing games, even though we didn't play. Food was excellent and the bartender who waited on us was super friendly and helpful.

Honestly a really good place overall great everything!! But the design was amazing and the food even better if are looking to eat somewhere good perfect place!!

Went for a work event loved the food and the fun had a blast!!! Great prices on the food as well.

This has become our new favorite place in town. We try to come weekly to at least have dinner. We have tried many food options and all are delicious. The smoked meatloaf is still my favorite! The food portions are huge and could easily be shared. Atmosphere is amazing and the whole place has such a chill and cool vibe. I love that the axe boards are digital and you have games to choose from while playing. The staff are always so friendly.

Our favorite local spot to hangout. Great food and welcoming environment. Definitely a place to checkout whether you're local or traveling through! Travis and Carson

Super nice staff got us setup with axe, beer, and appetizer in quick haste. Lots of fun for a first time chucker. Good selection of beers and food. Really a good time. Nice spot. But open mic got canceled? Boo.

Cool place to check out. Food and service are good. Axe throwing is entertaining

You walk into a great atmosphere immediately and the staff makes it even better. Laid back, fun, and enjoyable. I can see this becoming something big! Has a nice quiet area for families and also a room for large groups. Going back opening week to try out the food! Only had a beverage this evening and GREAT pricing on drinks!

This place is awesome. It really is for everyone - from a private group, to a smaller after hours group, to families, to having on your bar hop list (you will probably stay and play). The food is excellent. Saw many plates at the bar over lunch and they all looked great. I had a chicken and waffles sandwich - wow - it was great. Great layout inside and really nice and friendly people inside.

Luckily we found this little gem while traveling through Bristol. We ordered wings and they were amazing. Service was top notch also. Does not have a full bar but did have other options.

We had a blast at Axe and Ale! The food was great and axe throwing and arcade were a hit with the kids.

It was our first time here and we loved it. Our sever Dominique was amazing he was super helpful. This place should definitely be a lot busy than it is. We will be back.

This place is so rad. The food is amazing. I've never had anything I didn't love, but the Hillbilly Dip, a pot roast sandwich, is the best!! The staff are super nice and helpful. Love Axe and Ale!!

This was our familys first visit after being recommended as a great place for some fun. We were greeted by the hostess as soon as we entered and she explained how the axe throwing worked as we have never thrown an axe. We scanned a QR code filled out our waivers quick and easy. She gave us some throwing tips and explained the safety rules. It only took a few attempts and we were axe throwers and had a blast. We ordered some cold beers and cider and a delicious Pepperoni pizza to snack on in between throws.

My friends and I eat here frequently and it's always great food and service! I've also hosted a couple of events and had my birthday party here as well! Highly recommend for all ages and groups!

Top notch service and the food was amazing! Highly recommend.

This is where my daughter wanted to go to celebrate her birthday, and it did not disappoint!! We will definitely go back!

I'll tell you what, there's no proper amount of stars I can give this place. It's truly amazing. I was an employee here for about three months, but employee is such a proper word. I felt like family. Though my time here was short lived, I made memories and friends that will hopefully last a lifetime. The owner and staff are incredibly beautiful and kind people, each beating to their own drum. It's a wonderful place to bring the family or have a night out on the town with your mates. With a safe axe throwin

Great food, very curious staff, friendly and informative

Chill atmosphere, friendly staff. Great place to hang and play games on an evening in Bristol!

Great place to eat if you're a fan of pub style food. Plenty of options for everyone. Axe throwing is fantastic. There are arcade games as well. Give your business to this place as it is an amazing addition to Bristol. Highly recommend the smoked chicken pizza or the hotdog.

We had reservations for food and axe throwing. Both were amazing and the staff was so friendly and helpful. It's a great atmosphere for families, couples or friends. We can't wait to go back!

The BBQ Quesadilla was really good. Great selection on tap. Great service from multiple staff members. Really laid back but safety conscious atmosphere.

Just driving through and stopped to get a bite to eat...slow night as they were preparing for a big country music fest the next night but excellent staff and delicious food. I had quinoa (whoda thot?) and hubby had brisket sandwich. DELICIOUS!!!

Stopped here yesterday as we were just wandering around sightseeing. We had walked past while someone was finishing the mural on the back of the building. On the way back to the car, the mural was finished and we stopped to chat with the folks admiring the mural. They invited us in and we ended up with a tour of the place and did a round of axe throwing. It was a blast! The staff were super friendly and attentive. I never wanted to try axe throwing, but I have to admit that I very much enjoyed it and my hus

Great spot! Live music on a Sunday and plenty to do. Wife and I had white chicken pizza and Caesar salad. Everything was delicious and the bar atmosphere was great.

Frequently Asked Questions

What’s it like visiting an arcade today?

It’s a mix of nostalgia and high-energy fun! Many arcades blend retro classics like Pac-Man and pinball with modern VR games, racing simulators, and rhythm challenges — often with music, lights, and a social vibe.

Is it better to go alone or with friends?

Both can be great! Solo visits let you focus on your favorite games, while going with friends adds competition, teamwork, and laughs. Many people plan arcade meetups as a casual hangout or even date spot.

What should I bring to an arcade?

Usually just yourself and a way to pay (some arcades still use coins, others use cards or apps). If you're competitive, bring your A-game. If you're social, bring friends or meet new ones over multiplayer games.

What’s the best time to visit an arcade?

Weekdays or early afternoons are usually less crowded — perfect for focused play. Evenings and weekends bring the buzz, especially at barcades or venues with DJs, tournaments, or themed nights.

Can I meet new people at arcades?

Absolutely! Arcades attract a mix of casual players and serious gamers. Whether you're jumping into a four-player co-op or chatting between rounds, it's a fun, low-pressure way to connect over shared interests.

Are arcades still just for kids?

Not at all. While many arcades are family-friendly, there are also adult-oriented ones with full bars, 18+ nights, or vintage nostalgia themes. Arcades today cater to everyone — from first-timers to lifelong gamers.

Are there events or tournaments I can join?

Yes! Many arcades host regular competitions, retro nights, cosplay parties, and more. Whether you're into high scores or just want to watch and vibe, events add an extra layer to the experience.

What if I’m not great at arcade games?

No worries — arcades are about having fun, not being perfect. Try a variety of games, ask others for tips, and remember: the vibe is more “let’s play” than “let’s win.”
