Arcadia: America's Playable Arcade Museum

Arcadia: America's Playable Arcade Museum

Reviews Summary

This arcade is a nostalgic gem, overwhelmingly praised for its authentic 80s vibe, extensive collection of classic games (especially pinball), and affordable pricing (mostly $0.25-$0.75 per play). Visitors love the well-maintained machines, family-friendly atmosphere, and the chance to relive childhood memories. A few note the lack of historical context or nearby amenities, but most consider it a must-visit for retro gaming fans. The dual locations (with a sister arcade across the street) offer hours of fun, and the vintage jukebox adds to the charm. Cash is recommended as there's no ATM. Nearly all reviewers would return.

Customer Reviews

We had our son?s birthday party here this last year and it was fantastic! We had to reserve the location ahead of time, but there was no cost to book. We gave all the kids $20 in quarters and they had fun for 2 hours! Cannot recommend highly enough! Fun for all ages, and it's obvious that their goal is to share the fun of the arcade over making fists full of cash.

Incredible blast of nostalgia. Everything is coin pop and most games are 50-75 cents. When they're open just walk in and start playing. Definitely worth a special trip to the area. With so many barcades popping up, I like the formula here. It's just about fun. The variety of machines is cool too, I loved seeing time crisis and crazy taxi as well as the classics. They also have a nice area to sit down and take a break and have stools scattered around for longer sessions.

This place is a must-visit on your way through Route 66. You'll be fascinated by all the different pinball machines and iconic arcade games. Racing car machines to shoot ?em up games. Even air hockey! We were lucky enough to meet the owner John who had put this collection together over the years. Really interesting warm and friendly Chap. The games are 25c - 50c mostly. A change machine inside helps! We loved our time there. The best way to spend a few hours or so! Really recommend a visit.

Great place for a blast to the past! Tons of classic video games with lots of pinball games. There is plenty of handicap parking that's handicap friendly. Probably a good idea to hit the ATM because there is not a ATM machine or bring plenty of quarters. I would recommend this place for a visit when coming off of the highway.

We had a BLAST here! You can play for hours! Tons of options. Loved introducing my son to authentic 1980's games! All but 2 worked. Amazing. Great activity for snowy/rainy days.

This place is a hidden gem!!! We loved it. A nice place to eat in this little strip with a bar would be nice to add!

Had a meetup with friends here and had a blast. Wonderful Arcade with the authentic feel. Highly recommend coming just to get the feel of an old school arcade.

Amazing time. Would recommend to everyone. So many games to choose from and so cheap to play! East drive from Bloomington (take Historic Route 66!). Easy parking out front. I spent about an hour and a half here and spent probably around 6 dollars. Bring cash or quarters, there are change machines on site. Most games take 25 to 50 cents. There's also pinball paradise kitty corner with more games!

So much fun and I loved the many options of pinball machines.

A wonderful quarter-dropping classic arcade. No tokens, no cards, no tickets, just good old-fashioned quarters. This place does not focus on claw machines or ticket games. This is an arcade with a strong emphasis on video games and pinball. Honestly, I think Arcadia has more pinball machines than even the Galloping Ghost Arcade does. It definitely has more old pinball machines, with some dating from the 50s through the 70s. Mechanical score keeping, electric buzzing when hitting the flippers, and even manua

Love this place! Who ever owns it loves pinball and video games. Some of the very best pinball from the 90s and some of the best pinball games of all time! All the pinball games were perfectly level and in good playing shape. Games not working were turned off or labeled as weak left flipper .....etc. What a gem of a place in the middle of nowhere. Lots of old video games also. Great family fun and cheap!

So fun! We spent hours on just $20 each thanks to the $.50 games. It's mostly Pinball games with some first person shooter games. Nice little sitting area (for when you run out of money but your husband hasn't yet! Ha!) And don't forget to go across the street to Pinball Paradise for more. Yes they have a change machine and restroom. My 8 yo and 13 yo approved. ????

This place is awesome. Add in the pinball-focused location across the street and you have a vintage gaming paradise. We actually stayed nextdoor to Arcadia, in Vectorman's place, which is highly recommended, and this made for a fun experience for the whole family. There were a few machines down, as is expected with their vintage, but there were so many running that it would take many hours to play them all. They were only open Friday through Sunday, and it was quite empty on Sunday, so no wait for any games

Incredible place for nostalgia, has games ranging from the 80s to present day arcade games, ranging from pinball machines, racing simulators, arcade machines (Pac-Man and such). Most games are 50-75 cents to play, which is not bad at all (if you have a lot of change), also in a very nice area of Downtown McLean. Definitely recommend if you are passing through and or just a local.

We always have a great time when we head down to this arcade, just a 15-minute drive south of Bloomington. There's such a wide variety of games, so there's something for everyone. The best part is that the games are pretty cheap, which means we can spend hours here without burning a hole in our wallets. Just a heads-up?bring your own quarters or cash for the change machine. We spent a lot of time hopping between buildings and getting lost in the games, easily losing track of a couple of hours. It's a fun an

The pinball machines are all refurbished with beautiful action on the balls and the smoothest pull you'll ever feel on a launch. Somebody who loves these machines is taking very good care of them. So fun!!! Huge variety of games, it's better than stepping back in time, it's the history of fun come to life. Love the brick walls too and comfy seating. Well worth the drive

It's a wonderful place to experience a bygone era when video game arcades were prominent as places of entertainment for all ages.

So cool! Packed to the gills with games! My husband's favorite, Galaga! He made high score his first time playing it in 40 years! Says it's muscle memory. They have a central room that would be a great meeting place for a birthday party or a meeting for young or old. They have change machines but no ATM on site. Here's my official request for Qbert!

This place is amazing. The games all work as the should, and only a few were out of order. There is plenty of variety from Pac-Man to Shooter games. They have all the classic games you could dream of, and also some very unique games as well. The pinball location is just a very short walk across the street. It is full of a variety of pinball machines, which were all in working order. It was very cheap as well, most games were only 50 cents. I will definitely be revisiting this place again and again

Fun exploring all the different arcade games, but calling this a museum is a stretch. There's no information about the history of significance of the machines there, no history of arcade cabinets, and basically nothing to learn. I took off one star because I hoped to learn a little. Also, bring cash because there's no ATM there.

What a fun place to bring kids or even come and check out games from your childhood. This gem had 100 different games you can play for quarters! Parking is more for smaller vehicles, but you could park down the street and walk if you have an RV. The owner has 2 locations that are caty corner from each other with different types of games. The games vary- frogger, zekes peek. Pac-man. Super Mario bros., Ghost Squad.. They have air hockey, Foosball, pinball machines, dance machines. You name it.. You can set u

This is a hidden gem in McLean IL! Save your quarters, take the kids, and enjoy arcade/ pinball games from your childhood. A great place to visit on a day when you are looking for something to do!

Fun place. Enjoyed the throwback to my youth, and my grandson had a blast. The only downfall was that a few games weren't working properly. Definitely will go again!

Lots of fun. Good selection of games. Lots of good pinball machines. Video games too. Coin operated machines usually 50 cents per play or multiple plays for a little more.. Change machine onsite takes multiple denominations, $1,$5,$10 and $20. Machines seem to be in pretty good condition. Older and newer ones. Nice variety of games. I only played pinball. I spent $10 for a little over 2 hours of play. I'll definitely be back when I'm in the area.

So much fun!!! Most games are 25-50?, though there are some for 75?. I find $10 per person is more than enough! Great stop on a road trip! They have expanded since the last time I was there a couple years ago!

The town is small and kind of a blast from the past.... friendly, clean and small older buildings that have been kept up. People were even sitting at a table outside the hardware store playing cards, nice to see. Our granddaughter had asked for her 14th birthday to go and we were excited for the opportunity to watch the excitement of her playing plus a big win for us to get to play again also, lol. A great place to relive younger years, I'm 61, plus allows the kids/grandkids to be a part of things we enjo

Let me say first off this place is awesome! I spent for 6:30pm-9:00pm in both buildings. All ya need is quarters and the night is good. So many choices of machines both current style and retro. It is so worth the time to take a few hours to stop here and enjoy yourself. It's really a no pressure kind of day. Have fun all.

My son had a great time. Seemed like he could?ve played much longer but we had to go. Thanks for having us

Absolute gem. Fun for everyone. $20 goes a long way here. Lots of games. A great variety. The machines are taken care of. And a bonus collection of pinball machines around the corner. We love Arcadia!

Great place just off the highway! Low key arcade with all sorts of classics. A hidden gem in McLean, IL. $20 in quarters kept an adult and two kids busy for over and hour so make sure you bring some money to play if you plan to be here long with a group. There's also another building 100ft away that is filled with all sorts of pinball machines and a fooseball table. Everything is either 25 to 50 cents to play and they have change machines. Can't wait to go back!

If you have only ever heard of your parents going to the arcade and putting a quarter into a machine to play awesome fun games; not just swiping a card,,, the pinball emporium will envelope you in a clean, exciting, and intriguing state of mind(in my opinion). All of the games are vintage, so there is always a note if something isnt top notch,,, cherry on the sundae is that the owners are really good at repairs and having new games. Incredible place to go for fun with family or friends

The atmosphere was very good. The arcade games are no more than .25-.75?.I had fun with my 7yr old granddaughter.

Had a great time! Juke box sounded amazing, tons of choices for games, and the place was clean which was impressive for me. Definetly will be back. The hour drive for us to get there was definitely worth it.

Absolutely love this museum, my wife and I will drive the hour just to play pinball for a couple of hours. We love the ability to just get in and turn a $20 bill into quarters and play. I have recommended this museum to many people and will continue to do so. Most games are in good repair and work well. There are a few that are showing their age and use.

Great classic and more modern video games and pinball. Great atmosphere. Old juke box with '80s tunes and places to sit down. Really good game selection.

Not sure how we could get so lucky to have such an authentic arcade so close to us, but I am not complaining. Very well done decore, machines in great shape (were only a handful out of order), and more pinball options in one arcade than I've seen in 25 years. Will be supporting them even more now that I know that gem is so close.

Multiple rooms & buildings full of games. Prices were good, lots of variety to choose from. Even had a party room. Post it system to help track gaming issues. If I'm ever back this way, I'd happily stop in again.

It's worth the drive, 2 buildings across the street from each other!

Definitely worth the drive to experience some old and newer pinball and video games. There are 2 buildings in the seemingly abandoned town square of McLean. I estimate 85-90% of the machines are operable and good working condition. They are only open a couple days per week and close at 9pm.

Great place to visit with or without the kids. They have the classics as well as a good mix of drivers and shooters and a ton of pinball in the game room across the street are more pin ball machines and a Foosball table (remember no spinning). From Texas and plan to return several more times.

My husband and I went here for the first time after spending the night in Clinton Illinois at the Sunset Inn & Suites. Arcadia brought back all the fun & memories we had as kids in the 80's at the arcade. Pictured here is my husband playing his favorite pinball machine that he always played at a bowling alley many years ago. This is an amazing place and we will return with more quarters!

What a great blast from the past! So many classic video games to play. With the added bonus of them all only costing their original price. Not only was is fun, the building was beautiful, clean, and well restored. Would highly recommend for any arcade or pinball fan.

kitty corner from it's sister arcade Arcadia these two places encompass nearly 100 games. this place has more of the arcade but still a fair number of pinball machines. how did such a small town end up with such a hidden treasure?

AWESOME. So many real arcade cabinets. This old man and my 12 year old spent 90 minutes playing and still didn't have time for space invaders. This place is heavenly. We will b back.

I'm in love with the classic games. There is also a pinball museum across the street. Original prices, 25? or 50? per play. ????

Such a cool retro place! Took kiddos and spent afternoon! Loooove it! Machines take quarters with 80s prices. Definitely visiting again!!!

A fantastic spot with all the old games very clean and well run 10/10

I can't imagine the labor of love it takes to keep all these highly mechanical machines in service. And all for a fantastic price too! This place could put Chuck E. Cheese?s outta business!

Great selection of games you don't often stumble upon. Many games are in the condition you'd expect in a public location. Overall, a clean and friendly atmosphere!

A mesmerizing wonderland of impossibly well kept video games of the last 45 years. A deliciously anachronistic delight that should not be missed. Don't hesitate, just get off the 55 and do it.

Really cool idea. There are two buildings that are just filled with pinball machines and arcade games. 25 and 50 cents a game. Trying to get that high score on Pac Man

Only been a couple of times but the kids and I always have a good time. Games are older but most are in great condition. I love the variety of pinball machines and everything is cheaper than today's HUGE arcades (Dave and Busters, etc.). Wish it was closer to where we live but the 20 minute drive is worth it.

Me and a friend hung out here a few weeks ago. We had a BLAST! We stayed there the whole day and it was worth it. I got the high scores on Pac-Man, Ultra SF2, Joust, and TRON! Really really cool place and I'm so happy places like this are around!

Freaking awesome!!! we came here for the first time and brought some teens with us. It was awesome. We had so much fun in the first building we almost forgot about the pinball building :) I'm excited for when we will be able to be back. We are a little over a hour away but worth the drive. Everyone was friendly and was fun watching people play :)

They have a lot of games. Small for what they have. LOTS of classics! Not much surrounding tho.

Had a Great time. All the machines didn't work properly but most of em were labeled as such. My fav was STAR Wars pinball

I had so much fun playing games from my childhood and they are still using quarters.

Games in great shape, tons of fun. Almost everything is 0.50. No problem finding a stool to stand on for small kids. Totally worth the trip.

Really great selection of games and pinball machines between here and the museum. The overall area does have a unique vibe with the the main arcade and museum on the square and basicly open for you to come and go freely. Great jukebox with classic 80s catalog, especially for you Depeche Mode fans out there. That and reasonable prices on the games compared to modern arcades make for a great nostalic experience.

Great arcade with a variety of nostalgic games to choose from. Lots of pinball games!! All games start at a .25 and .75 is the most expensive. We had a lot of fun.

Nice selection of games from the 70s and 80s. No museum or history or engineering.

This place deserves 10 stars! The owner has done an incredible job putting this together! Such a cool place! Well done!

Great arcade, great prices! We had tons of fun. Amazing selection of pinball machines!

Amazingly fun! The arcade was clean and in really good repair! A few games were down but we had a blast and stayed for 6 hours! Highly recommend!

So many games and reasonable prices too. Make it a stop if you are nearby.

Amazing place for arcade games and pinball games. A couple dozen pinball machines in excellent condition, along with several dozen classic arcade games from the earliest to more recent, all taking old school quarter amounts [no crazy $1 games.] Clean environment. Second building across street with more pinball machines.

Very clean, not crowded, air conditioned and full of nostalgia! Worth the nearly two hour drive.

One of the best places to visit in the area, and great fun for all ages!

Excellent games and well worth the trip. All machines were functional. Bring cash or your own quarters. Several old ones that are only .25

So many games to play for hours. Clean and a/c

Such a cool place! Super retro and the kids had a blast all afternoon. All machines take quarters with 80s prices. We will definitely go back again! Great way to spend an afternoon!

This place is 12-year-old me?s dream. We went on a weekday afternoon and had the place to ourselves.

This place is fun, good selection of games. Jukebox has great selection of music. Someone has good taste considering Depeche Mode full albums available. And decent value of price for plays. We'll definitely be back!

Great place! Lots of old games and pinball with some new ones mixed in. Very reasonably priced!

Enjoyed a couple of hours here - lots of fun!

As advertised this is a fun place to visit. My only complaint was I didn't have enough time because we were on a tight schedule.

My boyfriend and I took a road trip to Arcadia / Pinball Paradise for his birthday and had the most amazing time! Nestled in the little town of McLean, Illinois (and along the historic Route 66), the owner took great care to turn old(er) buildings into this cool arcade! These arcade cabinets and pinball tables are well taken care of and play really well. The atmosphere is cozy and the aesthetic is totally awesome! I can't say enough amazing things about this place - we cannot wait to make another trip down

Awesome! The games are EXACTLY like I remember from the 1980s arcades I have spent much time in! VERY RECOMMENDED!

Arcadia is fantastic. When asked what I wanted to do or where I wanted to go for my birthday, I told her I wanted to go here with them family and a couple friends. We spent nearly 4 hours at Arcadia. It was a blast. Arcadia was perfect! I hope they continue to grow. I love pinball.

This place is fantastic.it gives kids the chance to feel what it was like back in the 80's when you got home after school or on the weekend and play till you ran dry on quarters ps love the juke box

This is a hidden gem. So much fun for a family of 4 with two teenage boys! Good assortment of pinball and classic arcade games. Most cost $0.50 per game. About $20-$25 covered a little over an hour. Would definitely recommend, and will definitely be returning.

Great selection of games! Our family had fun playing all kinds of vintage arcade games. Perfect stop on our road trip to stretch our legs.

Amazing! I have gone here for a few years and it is always fun they have a lot of old games and new games and some high tech ones for the teens.

I can't tell you all enough how much I enjoyed Arcadia: America's Playable Arcade Museum in McLean IL.!!!!!! I went with a buddy and his family who all loved it just as much as I did !!! There are literally two full buildings of pinball and arcade games. All of them were under a dollar to play, with the majority only being. 50 cents a game. We spent hours playing all the games that made me feel like I was at the Aladdins Castle Arcade at the old Pekin Mall while my mom shopped. We plan on going again and

Great fun mixed in with nostalgia for anyone who grew up in the Arcade Era

A total gem of a place. Fun for the whole family, especially big kids who grew up in the 70s and 80s and want to relive their childhood!!! My favorite part was the vintage change machine. You only need like $10 for an hour of fun for 3 people.

Great group of guys! I stopped in to play a few games.. their Tempest mini was in great condition and played perfectly! I left the top score to beat! Robotron was a great nostalgic treat. Tje pinball selection here is fantastic, but that just isn't my thing. Pinball are gorgeous to look at though. Anyway, the atmosphere here is very laid back and friendly. I definitely recommend a visit if you're in town or just passing through.

Wow.., we stayed in Vectormans Suite above the arcade and loved it!

Frequently Asked Questions

What’s it like visiting an arcade today?

It’s a mix of nostalgia and high-energy fun! Many arcades blend retro classics like Pac-Man and pinball with modern VR games, racing simulators, and rhythm challenges — often with music, lights, and a social vibe.

Is it better to go alone or with friends?

Both can be great! Solo visits let you focus on your favorite games, while going with friends adds competition, teamwork, and laughs. Many people plan arcade meetups as a casual hangout or even date spot.

What should I bring to an arcade?

Usually just yourself and a way to pay (some arcades still use coins, others use cards or apps). If you're competitive, bring your A-game. If you're social, bring friends or meet new ones over multiplayer games.

What’s the best time to visit an arcade?

Weekdays or early afternoons are usually less crowded — perfect for focused play. Evenings and weekends bring the buzz, especially at barcades or venues with DJs, tournaments, or themed nights.

Can I meet new people at arcades?

Absolutely! Arcades attract a mix of casual players and serious gamers. Whether you're jumping into a four-player co-op or chatting between rounds, it's a fun, low-pressure way to connect over shared interests.

Are arcades still just for kids?

Not at all. While many arcades are family-friendly, there are also adult-oriented ones with full bars, 18+ nights, or vintage nostalgia themes. Arcades today cater to everyone — from first-timers to lifelong gamers.

Are there events or tournaments I can join?

Yes! Many arcades host regular competitions, retro nights, cosplay parties, and more. Whether you're into high scores or just want to watch and vibe, events add an extra layer to the experience.

What if I’m not great at arcade games?

No worries — arcades are about having fun, not being perfect. Try a variety of games, ask others for tips, and remember: the vibe is more “let’s play” than “let’s win.”

Are pinball tables still good in this modern age?

Yes, pinball tables in arcades remain a blast. Their hands-on, skill-driven gameplay delivers a thrill digital games can’t match, blending nostalgia with modern flair. Newer tables from Stern and Jersey Jack feature LCD screens and themes like Avengers or Stranger Things, keeping things exciting. Arcades are seeing a pinball resurgence with vibrant scenes and tournaments like IFPA events drawing crowds. Though less common than video games, pinball’s tactile charm and community vibe make it a standout arcade experience in 2025.

Are retro games in arcades still good in this modern age?

Absolutely, retro games in arcades remain a thrilling draw in 2025! Classics like Pac-Man, Space Invaders, and Street Fighter II offer simple yet addictive gameplay, blending nostalgia with timeless challenge. Modern arcade cabinets often feature crisp displays and restored controls, enhancing the experience. These games thrive on quick reflexes and strategy, with vibrant pixel art and iconic soundtracks that spark joy. Arcades host tournaments and leaderboards, fostering a lively community. While modern games dominate, retro titles provide a unique, accessible thrill that keeps arcades buzzing.
