Andy's Awesome Arcade

Reviews Summary

Andy's Awesome Arcade is generally well-loved for its retro games, friendly staff, and great value, especially for birthday parties and family outings. Most reviews highlight the nostalgic atmosphere, reasonable prices, and attentive service. However, some note issues with broken games and poor ventilation, making it uncomfortably hot during warm weather. While the majority of ratings are 5-star, a few lower scores reflect these occasional drawbacks. Overall, it's a popular spot for fun and nostalgia, with minor room for improvement in maintenance and climate control.

Customer Reviews

Fun arcade, good for birthday parties. They have prize machines, basketball, foosball, pinball machines and video games. Rent the party room for a few hours and relax while the kiddos play. It's a small local arcade that is staffed. Clean and safe.

We had a basketball party here for the end of the season and it was PERFECT! So much more affordable than mountain mikes (where we typically would go)! The set up is great for parties but by far the best part was the staff. He was so helpful and kind. Such a problem solver and really went above and beyond. I would 10/10 recommend coming here for any party or just to hang out with your kids! We have also done that a few times and it is so fun!

Nice little place overall for our teen and preteen, but some of the games didn't seem to work well. It was also very hot in there. I read some previous reviews, and others mentioned the heat last year, too. According to responses, it was supposed to get fixed, but from my experience there the other day, it isn't...

If you are an "old-school" arcade player, this is a must. Great atmosphere and has most of the vintage games we loved to play when we were younger. Quit thinking about stopping by, Just do it!! Take a trip down memory lane and enjoy the day.

Fun place!! Lots of classic games, basketball, skill games, pinball (25c each) and mini golf at cheap fun prices. Got a day to kill? Come here for classic gaming fun!

There were quite a few fun, retro games. However, probably 30% of them were ?out of order?. Avoid going on a hot summer evening. The heat inside the arcade is sweltering!

I set the top score for the basketball game: 308. can you beat it? by the way, this place is a blast. totally worth the price!

Had our kid?s bday party there yesterday and we couldn't have been happier with how everything went. Thanks to Andy?s and their wonderful staff of young Dudes who know what's up, and whom are very attentive to their customers. Great place to bring the kids and a MAJOR walk down memory lane for us adults. Thank you Andy?s for a seamless day!

The kids had a blast with all the vintage games. Very reasonable prices! Spent about 2 hours there on a weekend. Even with a party there wasn't much of a wait for games. Attentive, friendly staff, easy parking!

We had our kids birthday party booked. Super fun and very family friendly arcade. All staff were very friendly and helpful with any questions we had. Cool spot to take your kids and have a good time! Highly recommend!

Andy's Awesome Arcade in Atascadero is an awesome place for a birthday party (of any age). They also own Mr. Putters Putt-Putt (right next door) so you can do a combo Birthday Party Package and have twice the fun! I highly recommend you check them out for your next Birthday Party in Atascadero, CA

It was really hot out, and we thought going in there would cool us down, but it's just as hot as it was outside- employees were nice though :)

Super fun place to have a birthday party. The staff is really friendly and accommodating. My 13 yo and his friends had a great time.

Nice retro arcade with 80s and 90s games

It was dirty. The girl at the register was not friendly at all and a lot of the games were out of order or didn't work well. Disappointed because we love to support local.

My nephew loves to go...

A fantastic arcade with friendly staff! I loved all the retro games!

Great place to take Paw Paw!

Fun place to play and have birthdays. BYOB allowed for parents as well ??

If you liked Atari as a child, you will love this. Kids were enjoying it because of the unlimited play and adults were enjoying it because of all the nostalgia. Check it out.

Great place for young kids and teenagers : ) or adults

Great place to enjoy some classic arcade games. Love that we have something like this in our little town!

Super fun arcade and a great spot for a birthday party!

Great price for a whole day of play. If you like retro games, this is the place to go.

Fun time at a small arcade

Cute little old school arcade. Great for birthday parties.

The water park was so crowded so my grandson chose Andy's to spend our shared birthday. The guys working that day were very helpful and nice. We played prize winning games mostly to give to each other . We had fun winning , bonding , and sharing our prizes.

Frequently Asked Questions

What’s it like visiting an arcade today?

It’s a mix of nostalgia and high-energy fun! Many arcades blend retro classics like Pac-Man and pinball with modern VR games, racing simulators, and rhythm challenges — often with music, lights, and a social vibe.

Is it better to go alone or with friends?

Both can be great! Solo visits let you focus on your favorite games, while going with friends adds competition, teamwork, and laughs. Many people plan arcade meetups as a casual hangout or even date spot.

What should I bring to an arcade?

Usually just yourself and a way to pay (some arcades still use coins, others use cards or apps). If you're competitive, bring your A-game. If you're social, bring friends or meet new ones over multiplayer games.

What’s the best time to visit an arcade?

Weekdays or early afternoons are usually less crowded — perfect for focused play. Evenings and weekends bring the buzz, especially at barcades or venues with DJs, tournaments, or themed nights.

Can I meet new people at arcades?

Absolutely! Arcades attract a mix of casual players and serious gamers. Whether you're jumping into a four-player co-op or chatting between rounds, it's a fun, low-pressure way to connect over shared interests.

Are arcades still just for kids?

Not at all. While many arcades are family-friendly, there are also adult-oriented ones with full bars, 18+ nights, or vintage nostalgia themes. Arcades today cater to everyone — from first-timers to lifelong gamers.

Are there events or tournaments I can join?

Yes! Many arcades host regular competitions, retro nights, cosplay parties, and more. Whether you're into high scores or just want to watch and vibe, events add an extra layer to the experience.

What if I’m not great at arcade games?

No worries — arcades are about having fun, not being perfect. Try a variety of games, ask others for tips, and remember: the vibe is more “let’s play” than “let’s win.”

Are pinball tables still good in this modern age?

Yes, pinball tables in arcades remain a blast. Their hands-on, skill-driven gameplay delivers a thrill digital games can’t match, blending nostalgia with modern flair. Newer tables from Stern and Jersey Jack feature LCD screens and themes like Avengers or Stranger Things, keeping things exciting. Arcades are seeing a pinball resurgence with vibrant scenes and tournaments like IFPA events drawing crowds. Though less common than video games, pinball’s tactile charm and community vibe make it a standout arcade experience in 2025.

Are retro games in arcades still good in this modern age?

Absolutely, retro games in arcades remain a thrilling draw in 2025! Classics like Pac-Man, Space Invaders, and Street Fighter II offer simple yet addictive gameplay, blending nostalgia with timeless challenge. Modern arcade cabinets often feature crisp displays and restored controls, enhancing the experience. These games thrive on quick reflexes and strategy, with vibrant pixel art and iconic soundtracks that spark joy. Arcades host tournaments and leaderboards, fostering a lively community. While modern games dominate, retro titles provide a unique, accessible thrill that keeps arcades buzzing.
