Most reviews praise the friendly, attentive staff and great atmosphere, especially for birthday parties and group events. Many highlight excellent customer service from managers and employees. Positive experiences often mention clean facilities, good food, and fun arcade games. However, negative reviews cite high prices, rude staff, mechanical issues with lanes, and poor organization during busy times. Some criticize corporate policies like expensive water and arcade cards. Customer Reviews

I don't usually leave reviews but I would be remiss not to speak up about Mady who works in the bar. She is simply awesome. She is friendly and customer oriented. She has a great personality and is always helpful.. I have managed a retail grocery store for 35 years and I know top notch service when I see it. Two thumbs up for Mady!!!!!

I brought my family of 5 to star lanes and I want to shout out Angel, Toni, Michael, Chloe, Kevin, and Jess. I want to say Michael was excellent and grade A service from them all. My kids had so much fun that they are crying to come back. Thank you star lanes for your excellent service and making my kids experience wonderful. I will definitely recommend this bowling alley to anyone especially families with little ones. They had so much fun with the arcade games as well. All around 5 stars ??

Outrageous prices. Balls terribly pitted, and lanes warped. When pins were racked they continuously fell. Kids roller racks were broken and warped. Staff didn't seem to care about any issues. Terrible experience wouldn't recommend

Can't bring your own water bottle in, nor will they give you a cup of water?. Instead you have to buy a $3.20 plastic bottle of water. On top of this, they had no cold bottles, just hot $3 bottles of plastic

We attended a birthday party. The man providing shoes was very attentive and affable. They checked on our party four times (spaced out during the two hours) to see how we were doing. It was a Friday late afternoon and there were plenty of lanes available.

If we could give less than 1 star - we would!! Let's start off with EXTREMELY rude employees! I asked if they offer 1st responders discount and was greeted with a loud laugh & then told " HELL NO - WE DON'T DO THAT HERE" We then after 30 minutes decided to order 5 sodas & waters & was told there were no cold water only warm water bottles. Also, we ordered a chicken quesadilla. 45 minutes later, we went to check on the quesadilla, and was told it was just started since she had a big order (2 burgers & fries

I have bowled at AMF Star lanes since 2014 and I have to say how much improvement there has been since Chloe became GM. They have come a long way as far as lane breakdowns. We very rarely have lanes down. Like any machine it will happen from time to time. And head mechanic Ronnie has done a great job in keeping the lanes in good shape. All of Chloe's staff are so awesome. They are one big happy family which is the way it should be. They all work very hard.

This has to be one of my favorite places to be in my free time. The GM Ian is the greatest. Shawn and Ian both know their stuff when it comes to bowling and Ronnie is so sweet. This place is my home away from home. I have made some really great memories here!

Overall, it was good, albeit a bit pricey, but what isn't these days. While we expected it to be loud from balls dropping and pins falling, it still seemed incredibly noisy. Music was loud, and the videos were very inappropriate. After seeing one to many overt sexual scenes on TV across the entire width of the building, even one of the preteen kiddos asked questions about what they were playing. I decided to see what management would do about the videos. They responded well. Kudos to Michael. He understood

Mady was the best bartender have ever had. Five stars for this center. Service is always amazing!

lol what an absolute joke. Skip it and go literally anywhere else. Negative experience from start to finish for every member of our group. Not a single staff member was pleasant or accommodating. Everything was dirty and severely overpriced.

Star Lanes is a good choice for families looking for a fun indoor activity on a rainy day. It is well maintained, and the food is what you would expect from a concession stand. While the bowling balls could be upgraded, the overall experience is positive. We had a great time playing three games; the cost, including shoe rentals for four people, was around $100.

Me and my boyfriend love to bowl here and we actually prefer this one over Sky Lanes BUT AMF has the RUDEST STAFF! Even the bartender was rude.. We went twice in the past two weeks and had some issues with the mechanics. Something with the pins needed resetting and the staff had awful attitudes and didn't seem to care. Like.. we paid $50 just to have fun and you act like we were in the wrong. Don't like your job? Find a new one. Might be going back to Sky Lanes after all. Least they're respectful there.

I love coming to AMF. Chloe, the GM, is always willing to answer any questions that come about. The whole staff is knowledgeable, friendly, and always willing to help. Definitely a great experience!

Very nice bowling alley. Clean area, friendly staff, new equipment for fun games. But nothing can make me a better bowler!

Best bowling alley on earth. Came in from out of town for a bachelor vacation, they were closed, renovating. Took a chance talked to the staff, let us bowl while they rebuilt they place. Good times, good lanes, good staff. Could not recommend highly enough. Love you guys #CoreMemories #PrivateParty

We went bowling today at The Star Lanes, for 2 people and it was terrible! The place was packed and chaotic. After the 3 games the machine dented and scratched our bowling ball on lane 13. Lastly Pins kept falling over in between games. We will not be coming anytime soon!!!!! (We tried to talk to the people at the front desk and they did care, they did not say sorry or even try to compensate for the issue)

We had a great time with the kids, the new manager was so kind and helpful and made sure our kids hqd everything they needed to have fun. We will definitely be back

I took my 4 year old after school today as the parks were too wet. She loved it and the man who helped us at the counter was so great! I hadn't bowled in years so I wasn't sure about several things, and he was kind and thoughtful. I accidentally started a second game at the end as I didn't realize it would keep going, and he didn't charge us for the second game that we didn't play. They also have arcade games that mesmerized my kiddo too. And they had ramps to help her get the bowl going! Affordable, fun, w

Outrageous and unacceptable. Walked in at 9pm and asked for 1 lane 1 game 4 adults. Keep in mind, this was requested loud and CLEAR. Jessica, apparently the manager here, charged us $76 WITHOUT informing us that after 7pm, apparently they only offer unlimited bowling? Finished our 1 game that we originally thought we were being charged for, went to the front desk and asked why I was charged $76 for 4 people, 1 game. Was told by Jessica, that she informed us that after 7pm they only offer unlimited bowling.

We were able to get a big group of our band kids in for a holiday party at the last minute. The staff was very accommodating and helpful. The kids had a great time bowling and playing games!

Just had a 50th birthday celebration. 36 people- We had a fantastic time. Staff went above and beyond to provide us with the lanes I specifically requested. Only suggestion is to add an extra bar server to help with an adult event. We did have a great time and will do it again!!

I had so much fun on my girl date with my friend! We had the cauliflower "wings" with the Buffalo sauce and they were great. I can't wait to come back!

12-7-24 booked a bday party for my 20 year old. 8 bowling on 2 lanes side by side and parents got their own lane (paid separate from the bday package) next to them. The package included 2 hours of bowling, 2 entrees, tater tots and unlimited drink refills. U can imagine how much these teens could eat and drink so we ran the staffs butt's off??. They did a awesome job keeping up and were extremely friendly. Awesome fun and awesome good time and memories.??

Such a great place! Came here for a bachelor party. They let us in before they opened since we had made a special trip here! Had a ton of fun. Great atmosphere. Staff was extremely friendly, overly accommodating, highly recommended!!!

Had a great time, fun arcade games, excellent costumer service, the new manager Jess was very polite to us.

Me and my family had an awesome time there would recommend 10/10

Great place for hangout with friends

11$ a game! I bowled 6 games to practice very nice people way over priced the lanes are garbage no oil new ball junk all over the ball needs take care there equipment 6 games shouldn't be 76 $ I have my own shoes .so bowling ball drilled $50...not bad!bowling$76 beer $26 very high for one person

I love coming here every Tuesday with my bowling league! The management and employees are always super helpful and sweet!

If I could give this place zero stars, I would. Don't bring your own bowling balls here. Brand new ball, not even a month old and now damaged from their ball return and they said "Well that's the part of the personal risk in bowling, sorry our mechanic doesn't know what he's doing". I'll never spend another dollar here.

They have a great summer pass deal. Everything is always clean, and staff are friendly. HUGE shout out to the guys at the pro shop! They went above and beyond in helping my husband and I pick out our first balls. They spent a good amount of time giving us tips, being friendly, and they're just amazing. They even came down to the lane to watch us bowl and gave us advice. If you need help with your game, I recommend them!

My experience was a pleasant surprise on a busy Saturday night. The staff were on top of things and I felt very respected throughout the check-in process. I have to give a huge shout out to Brandon for being a great host and for our waitress. Those two really made me feel welcomed and my time there more enjoyable.

Loved it here can't beat the 16.99 unlimited bowling for the night! Staff was also very nice :)

We celebrated my daughter?s 6th birthday here and it couldn't have been a better experience. The kids all had a blast and for many it was their first time bowling. The place was clean and modern with equipment that worked well. The service was amazing and attentive. We got a package with pizza and the food was actually pretty good. Would definitely recommend for a kid?s party and we're also looking forward to going back for an adult night out.

Our friends came into town and we took them here. It is a blast. The staff is awesome, prices were great, food was yummy, and we all had a freakin blast! Can't wait to go back.

This place is great! The staff was very friendly and we had a great time bowling. The bar is also pretty great with a good selection of drinks.

Fun times with friends, affordable and great atmosphere, very chill environment. Good place to meet new friends!

We went couple times. It was good overall.

The service is always great. They always have my league information (Enjoy Your Life), on hand when I enter the building and always service with a smile.

Very helpful staff. Everyone wore masks, unlike another bowling alley in Asheville where none wore masks. Pro shop staff was very informative also.

I had my 11 yr old daughters birthday party there today and it was fantastic! I picked the teen package for 10 kids. The staff was helpful, polite and attentive even though the place was super busy on a Saturday afternoon. The food was great too! Everyone had a great time. I highly recommend!

I thought $5.39 for a 12oz fountain soda was a bit much, but overall, we had a good time.

We had scheduled a birthday party for my son we ended up getting food that had been sitting there for way too long and then they didn't refill our drinks like they were supposed to and then we had to have people move from our lane like 30 minutes was ended up taking off our game because we literally had to sit there and wait on them to move people when we made a reservation prices are ridiculously high for nothing there was a lot of drunks and chaos really didn't have the birthday for my 9 year old son that

Booked a bowling party for 10 teenagers. Staff checked us in smoothly, and we're very accommodating. We did not order food as any part of a package but ordered food separately and it was really good. We got pizza, and French fries. Both were well prepared and tasty. The video game package that came with the party package was more than adequate for the kids. And they had the game set in a way that the kids could actually win. Several of them were excited because they got first place in a game. Anytime we had

Score board didn't work. Need to get new house balls, the kid guide to help kids was broken and bent. You'd think for the money that was spent things would be better. The arcade was expensive. Drink prices was kinda high. A company that wife works at rented whole alley. Just could've been a whole lot better. Need to spend a little of the money on fixing up a bit.

The prices are ridiculous they don't tell you their prices change after certain hours and that it's per person. We were from out of town and when we got their they said it was per game not per person per game. Then one lady wanted to get an attitude yea shut her up real quick with her lies. So won't be going their when we go back up there.

Parking lot half empty. A third of the lanes weren't being used. We were told we'd have to wait 45 minutes to bowl without a reservation. Huh?

Great place to bowl, fantastic service and nice area for the kids to play video games. Only shortfall is that it's expensive for a family of 4.....can hardly blame them as the cost of everything is up.

Took my kids here and we had a great time; the staff was amazing

New manager is very unfriendly and quite honestly rude. Prices at the concession are unbelievably expensive, a plastic cup of water is $2.99 + tax(for tap water) and a small fountain soda is $4.00. Pin setters are constantly malfunctioning ie dropping pins, not setting pins correctly. Front desk staff and concession staff are super nice and helpful. i would not recommend bowling at this location.

Went here for a girls night while we are on a quick one day vacation to Asheville. We were told about an hour to an hour and a half. While waiting we played the games and grabbed drinks. The bartender was amazing?but the rest of the experience? HORRIBLE. We ordered a pizza while we waited after 49 minutes of not getting our pizza we went to the food stand where they told us ?oops is must have been sent to the wrong table? not a single apology just the guy at the front finding the situation funny. After almo

We had a ball! And on top of having a great night, we were given extra time to bowl unlimited for reserving a lane! Definitely worth going to!

When my family arrived, we were blown away by the renovations. This bowling alley looks great! However, looks can be deceiving! We quickly learned how they plan to pay for these renovations. They charge $10 PER GAME!! Also, $5 to rent shoes. My family of 4 usually will play 2 or 3 games. There was no way I was going to spend over $140 for my family of 4 to bowl 3 games. Very disappointing! We decided to bowl 1 game and leave. Then I found out the option for bumpers is either everyone has them or nobody doe

So expensive and the staff was very rude. $60 for 2 people for 2 games. What a joke.

Had so much fun at Star Lanes. Wednesday nights after 8 are awesome.

New projectors and sound system give a more party vibe to the place. Nice arcade, full bar and cafe with traditional bowling alley food. This place stays busy, so call ahead to make sure you can get a lane, but it's worth the wait when they have one. There's leagues every night but they don't use every lane every night, so most nights you can still get on one at one point or another. The 6pm Sunday special is a good deal ~$17/person, includes shoes and you get a $5 arcade card to bowl all night. Mon-thu sam

Won the big pink unicorn out of the claw/scissor machine it was a great

Our family had a great time will definitely go back. Food was kind pricey but good as well.

Great place for birthday parties, people who don't know how places like this operate need to know. The people try their best that work here. As a person who has done this kind of work before, well, when you don't have enough people to help, it sucks. They work there but off just to make sure everyone and everything was ready. We had to help a little bit, but everything turned out great. I would like to give shout out to the people that were there working there butt off today. Like 5 or 6 birthdays and only

I came here to bowl with my family and although there were leagues going on, we were able to get a lane almost right away. We came around 8:30pm on a Tuesday. The atmosphere was very easygoing and family-friendly. There were people of all ages bowling around us and the playlist was very upbeat and perfect for the vibes. When I wanted to grab a drink, the bartender Deborah (or Deb), was super sweet, easygoing, and attentive. When she was busy, she communicated that she would be with us shortly, and was ver

My husband and I traveled to Asheville for our 11th year anniversary, and after having such a terrible experience with Sky Lane Bowling we couldn't recommend this place enough! The staff is amazing! Scott and Christy take such good care of yo, and the place is so clean. We loved our experience and will definitely be back!

Great place for a Birthday party!! Many packages to choose from.

Long wait. Ended up hanging out in the parking lot. I used the facilities in the place and it was clean though. Probably just need to go on a day when its less crowded.

The place is a disaster and hard to get a lane. They ran a promotion advertising a discount on Sunday, so we got a group of friends and headed over to take advantage. They also had a bowling league and event the same night so they didn't even have any lanes! Didn't make any sense and everyone had to leave. Major disappointment. Luckily there are a million other great things to do in Asheville and that's what we did.

Clean inside. Food is mediocre and expensive. Arcade requires you to load money onto a proprietary card, but I guess that at least means the arcade is never busy. Just your usual corporate owned, middling, forgettable experience. If you plan on having an alcoholic drink, do yourself a favor and do it somewhere else first. Do you like being nickle and dimed? This is the place for you.

If I could give 0 stars, I would. This place has really gone downhill fast. Prices are outrageous ($30+ for two people for ONE game!) To each get a beer and a pizza to split was over $50 with tip! And all this would be fine if the service and facilities were halfway decent, which they aren't. The website makes this place seem like it's a nice, renovated bowling alley - and that couldn't be farther from the truth. The staff was rude. The facilities were dirty and falling apart. No one restocked the balls bet

I bowl in a league here. I go all the time by far my favorite place. Recently, I had my sons birthday party here. They have the best prices in town. The food was great. Zac and the rest of the staff went above and beyond their duties to ensure we had everything thing we needed. Highly recommend this place.

Best bowling in the tri County! Hands down, no arguing.... they are the best. Even when waiting on busy nights the wait was 30 minutes, so we played in the arcade. We had so muchfun! Everyone was so friendly and awesome thanks for a fun night out! Don't waste your time at the other places, we've played there too and hands down this place was by far the cleanest, friendliest, and we had a blast!

Charges 10 dollars a game per person and 5 dollars a drink of ginger ale. (No free refills) Bartender service was so long. There are way cheaper bowling allys near than this place... Won't be back..

A little expensive, but my daughter and I had a great time. Nice place, friendly staff. My kids and I will return to have a good time.

Great place to enjoy whit the fam! The food was great.... ?? North Carolina best place...

Good prices nice friendly staff.

One of the only family fun places left in Asheville! We always have a good time and everyone is always very nice. Plus the food is actually pretty good.

Fun place ?? I like so much

Out of towner here!! My bf and I are huge bowlers and we love trying out different bowling alleys wherever we go. This is truly the most warm welcoming & homey place we've been to other than our home town alley. The staff is great & very friendly. Affordable prices when going after 8pm for their deals!!!!

They greet you with a smile service is very excellent food is bit pricey there but otherwise good

Great place to bowl and hang out!

The staff here and especially the manager, Ian, really go out of there way to provide excellent customer service and make you feel welcome. The quality of good and beer as well as style and look of AMF is leaps and bounds above the west asheville bowling option. We drive 20 minutes further just to bowl here. It's becoming our favorite place. Highly recommend!

Play in a league but practice at AMF at least once a week. Ian the manager keeps it all together. The rest of the front desk staff is also super helpful. They are pretty full during the week with league play but weekends are opened now although there might be a wait.

This place is horrible and the front staff was so so rude and mean!!

This particular bowling alley was the cleanest and most positive experience I've had. My cousin had a wedding party here and the staff were wonderful, the service and catering was A++ - The food was just fantastic! We had salad, meatballs, chicken, chicken wings, delicious pasta, fries and quesadillas'. The bathrooms here are very clean, and the bowling part was perfect, no complications. My grandfather wanted coffee and they made us a whole pot for everyone to enjoy! I strongly recommend this bowling alle

We celebrated my daughters birthday at this venue. The staff were incredibly kind and attentive, the manager on duty Diane was so sweet. Restrooms and lanes were clean and the pizza was surprisingly good. I would definitely recommend and plan to return soon.

Our family bought a summer pass and had such a great experience we continue to go back long after summer ended. Chris the manager is outstanding and relentlessly hard working. Diane and Ray at the snack bar are super friendly and helpful.

WORST ZOO I have ever seen Only 1 animal and something is not right with this monkey

We had a great time at AMF Lanes! The staff could not be nicer! They really went out of there way to accommodate our large group in putting us all together. Ari was the perfect bartender, fun and made our favorites with expertise. The bowling alley is clean, with a super great staff! A++

Hand blowers on ball returns do not work. Floor hasn't been dry-mopped in ages so lots of dust and lint on the floors. There is always at least 1 pair of lanes broken down and unusable. But the best thing ever was the night during league play they turned off our pair of lanes before we had even finished the 8th frame. And then they were incapable of recapturing the scores. The place is all Bowlero corporate so there is no personal interactions with the bowlers. They only care about open bowlers and they cha

If you're gonna go, do it when they aren't busy. They've renovated in the worst way possible. Traditional seats are gone, replaced with too big, too close togther rectangular tables with four chairs each. So tight it's impossble not to literally rub elbows with the people at the lane beside yours. Worse, none of the furniture fits where it should, so everything and everyone is crammed up against the ball racks, making it difficult to find a ball without having to excuse yourself past multiple people. It mad

Frequently Asked Questions

What’s it like visiting an arcade today?

It’s a mix of nostalgia and high-energy fun! Many arcades blend retro classics like Pac-Man and pinball with modern VR games, racing simulators, and rhythm challenges — often with music, lights, and a social vibe.

Is it better to go alone or with friends?

Both can be great! Solo visits let you focus on your favorite games, while going with friends adds competition, teamwork, and laughs. Many people plan arcade meetups as a casual hangout or even date spot.

What should I bring to an arcade?

Usually just yourself and a way to pay (some arcades still use coins, others use cards or apps). If you're competitive, bring your A-game. If you're social, bring friends or meet new ones over multiplayer games.

What’s the best time to visit an arcade?

Weekdays or early afternoons are usually less crowded — perfect for focused play. Evenings and weekends bring the buzz, especially at barcades or venues with DJs, tournaments, or themed nights.

Can I meet new people at arcades?

Absolutely! Arcades attract a mix of casual players and serious gamers. Whether you're jumping into a four-player co-op or chatting between rounds, it's a fun, low-pressure way to connect over shared interests.

Are arcades still just for kids?

Not at all. While many arcades are family-friendly, there are also adult-oriented ones with full bars, 18+ nights, or vintage nostalgia themes. Arcades today cater to everyone — from first-timers to lifelong gamers.

Are there events or tournaments I can join?

Yes! Many arcades host regular competitions, retro nights, cosplay parties, and more. Whether you're into high scores or just want to watch and vibe, events add an extra layer to the experience.

What if I’m not great at arcade games?

No worries — arcades are about having fun, not being perfect. Try a variety of games, ask others for tips, and remember: the vibe is more “let’s play” than “let’s win.”

Are retro games in arcades still good in this modern age?

Absolutely, retro games in arcades remain a thrilling draw in 2025! Classics like Pac-Man, Space Invaders, and Street Fighter II offer simple yet addictive gameplay, blending nostalgia with timeless challenge. Modern arcade cabinets often feature crisp displays and restored controls, enhancing the experience. These games thrive on quick reflexes and strategy, with vibrant pixel art and iconic soundtracks that spark joy. Arcades host tournaments and leaderboards, fostering a lively community. While modern games dominate, retro titles provide a unique, accessible thrill that keeps arcades buzzing.

Are pool tables in arcades still good in this modern age?

Yes, pool tables in arcades remain a fantastic draw in 2025! Games like 8-ball or 9-ball offer tactile, skill-based fun that blends strategy and precision. Modern tables feature smooth felt, responsive cues, and vibrant designs, enhancing the classic experience. Arcades foster a social vibe with casual matches or competitive tournaments, appealing to all skill levels. Unlike digital games, pool’s physicality—lining up shots, feeling the cue’s weight—keeps it timeless.

Why are arcade prize games so exciting to play?

Arcade prize games are a thrilling highlight in 2025! Claw machines, skee-ball, and ticket-redemption games like basketball offer a rush of skill and chance, with rewards like plushies, toys, or electronics up for grabs. Modern machines feature vibrant lights, digital scoreboards, and responsive controls, amplifying the fun. The lively arcade atmosphere, with cheering crowds and buzzing energy, makes every win feel epic.
