AJ's FAMILY ARCADE INC

AJ's FAMILY ARCADE INC

Reviews Summary

The reviews show a mixed experience. Many praise the fun activities like go-karts, mini-golf, and arcade games, along with friendly staff and good food. However, frequent complaints highlight poor maintenance—broken machines, dirty facilities, overgrown mini-golf courses, and non-working water features. Service is often slow due to understaffing, and some find food overpriced or subpar. While some visitors had great family outings, others left frustrated by mismanagement and unclean conditions. The potential is there, but consistency in upkeep and service is lacking.

Worst family fun place ever. Mini golf is filthy, unkempt shrubbery, and the water looks like it has water born in it. Employees were stretched thin and borderline incompetent. Though I blame that on the incompetent owner from not training them hardly. Employee didn't know how to loosen/tighten the belts on the go karts and left the gate closed on our first lap. So keep that in mind because there is a good chance you'll get hurt on them. Place needs to completely shutdown as someone would likely get h

What a frustrating experience! A bunch of college kids running the place, and the food and service were nothing short of pathetic. We came here to celebrate our daughter's 3rd birthday, and in preparation, we called hours in advance to confirm that the arcade would be open until 9 PM, as we were told by the man on the phone. You'd think they would honor what they told us on the phone, but NOPE! They SHUT DOWN the arcade at 7:30 PM! I can't believe I got my child?s hopes up for a fun-filled night at the arca

This place is FILTHY!!! I don't think it has ever been cleaned from the looks of it, and the worst part the owner is a SURGEON!! Also, the 2 employees were sleeping when we walked in and stayed asleep until we woke them up so our kids could cash in tickets!! 4 out of the 10 games were out of order. The 2 machines that you could win prizes were not stocked with prizes. 4 families with kids walked in and then right back out without playing games. This place COULD be such a money maker as there is nothing in M

So friendly, fun, great food and a variety of games. Air hockey, skee ball and even play til you win games. Kiddos love it and we've been back 3 other times ??

Great place and friendly staff, my Son and I had a lot of fun.

The mini golf course is nasty and dirty. Garbage laying around, the water features were dirty and gross. The course itself was full of pine needles, etc. Staff is unfriendly and only care about being on cell phone. Don't waste your money.

They didn't answer their phone quick enough so they deserve a bad review

This place was filthy!! We played mini golf and the weeds were so high, tree branches or bushes weren't trimmed, non of the water features worked and the parts were all over the place!! The go cart track looked deserted with all the weed growing in the middle of the track! Very disappointed especially with how it's not that old!

We went to find something to do that we normally don't do but almost is a let down the staff to get stuff for mini golf was rudly on his phone (which had to be a kid but none the less unacceptable while on the job in my eyes) which was very unappreciated as this is our first time and we also were trying to ask how to get out there. The course isn't kept up either the water is nasty. The go karts were alright staff didn't have to do much but to tell to go and they were accommodating to doing a kid swap as w

Took weeks to book a party. Was told it would be shut down for us. Turns out it was triple booked. However besides exposure the staff, games, track etc was wonderful! Go-carts were super fun. All the kids had a blast. Food was good. Thanks for making my 6 year olds birthday a blast! (:

It's nice that Marshall has a place like this but it's not being taken care of. On the mini golf course there was garbage everywhere, weeds growing out of control and most of the water features were broken and gross. Inside the arcade was no better unfortunately as machines were broken and they were mopping with old water and it smelled terrible. The go-karts were fun though and that area was decent. Such a good place for the town to have access to but I wish the owners/management would take care of it!

Fun arcade games, friendly staff, go carts could have let us go longer. Amazing fries and pickle wontons. Was not happy with the chicken wings were way over cooked and dry, blue cheese did not taste right it tasted sour. If you made the marinara from scratch it would be amazing.

Very sad arcade. Super dirty & half of the games were out of order. The only reason we were here is because we had lunch at the place next door & they gave us tickets to use. While we were eating I saw at least 2 families go in & then leave right away & it didn't occur to me why they left until we stepped foot in there ourselves. Not sure how this place can even remain open for how dirty it was!

Great atmosphere. Love the ice bar! Friendly staff. Very busy so food was slow coming out of kitchen. Food was great with the exception of the side of broccoli I ordered. It was raw. I had expected it to be cooked. Ashley was tending bar. She was so sweet & has a great smile. Will definitely go back again.

Well I don't really know where to start so.. they had a kid working the cash register that look like he was no older than 11 or 12 years old which I'm pretty sure there are child labor laws against that but anyway.. we got our drink pitchers and they were about half full. There were nowhere near enough employees which I believe was only one out at the go-kart track so it took him forever running back and forth trying to do 20 things at once that they should have had at least 4 or 5 employees for. In my opi

The mini golf course hasn't been kept up, weeds and debri on the greens, 1 of the 3 not working fountains looked like it was filled with transmission fluid. Only seen 1 employee that did very little.

It was different. Good food. Service was good an friendly. Kids can eat an go there. They have Go-Karts for anyone to ride an a arcade room as well. I liked the table where it had ice in the middle to keep your drinks cold. ??

It was okay, but alot of games out of order. They only have about 10 games to play and 4 were out of order. Soda was not good and we just ended up ordering water. Food and service is very slow.

I absolutely love to mini golf, so I was ecstatic when I found out that not only a mini golf course was coming to Marshall, Minnesota, but also batting cages, go carts, and an arcade. I moved to Marshall in August of 2011, and shortly after is when they started building the Dickies/arcade. Now, nearly two years later, they still are not finished. Dickies Barbeque Pit, the arcade, and the mini golf course are up but the go carts and batting cages are not. I was hoping to be able to try these before I graduat

We went and drove the gocarts at the gocart track. Took my 3 Grandson's to go race gocarts. We had a blast racing each other. This was the first time My Two twin grandson's have been Big enough to drive by themselves. They had the Time of their Life driving the gocarts. MY Daughter and I took them today. MY oldest Grandson TY went along to. He even had fun racing his cousins. We went around 2 time's and the Twins went around 3 time's. They can't stop talking about the fun they had. We will definitely do th

We were looking for something to do with our young grandsons so we came over to AJ's. We had a lot of fun on the mini-golf course and in the arcade. We would recommend it if you are looking for a little family fun close to home.

Service was a little slow but they were short staffed and were very up front about the wait time. Food was awesome like normal.

Wings were tasty like beef jerky so dry games and go cart was fun

Air hockey, ski ball, go karts, mini golf, good food, a few beers, great time

Very few games place looks tacky food was ok but way over priced

Great little arcade!! Chidi was great help and always has a great attitude!! I would highly recommend

Machines always broke. Over half if then don't work.

The bar was packed and we still got great service and great food

Golfing is fun and so is drifting with the Go-Karts

Completely lame selection but friendly staff. Broken machines abound. Where's the pinball ?

Frequently Asked Questions

What’s it like visiting an arcade today?

It’s a mix of nostalgia and high-energy fun! Many arcades blend retro classics like Pac-Man and pinball with modern VR games, racing simulators, and rhythm challenges — often with music, lights, and a social vibe.

Is it better to go alone or with friends?

Both can be great! Solo visits let you focus on your favorite games, while going with friends adds competition, teamwork, and laughs. Many people plan arcade meetups as a casual hangout or even date spot.

What should I bring to an arcade?

Usually just yourself and a way to pay (some arcades still use coins, others use cards or apps). If you're competitive, bring your A-game. If you're social, bring friends or meet new ones over multiplayer games.

What’s the best time to visit an arcade?

Weekdays or early afternoons are usually less crowded — perfect for focused play. Evenings and weekends bring the buzz, especially at barcades or venues with DJs, tournaments, or themed nights.

Can I meet new people at arcades?

Absolutely! Arcades attract a mix of casual players and serious gamers. Whether you're jumping into a four-player co-op or chatting between rounds, it's a fun, low-pressure way to connect over shared interests.

Are arcades still just for kids?

Not at all. While many arcades are family-friendly, there are also adult-oriented ones with full bars, 18+ nights, or vintage nostalgia themes. Arcades today cater to everyone — from first-timers to lifelong gamers.

Are there events or tournaments I can join?

Yes! Many arcades host regular competitions, retro nights, cosplay parties, and more. Whether you're into high scores or just want to watch and vibe, events add an extra layer to the experience.

What if I’m not great at arcade games?

No worries — arcades are about having fun, not being perfect. Try a variety of games, ask others for tips, and remember: the vibe is more “let’s play” than “let’s win.”
